Unless Obama suddenly picks Sarah Palin as his VP, he's looking good.

Mark my words. Mark them. This is all deliberate strategy by the Mitt Romney campaign. It's similar to the "rope a dope" strategy used by noted black person and sometimes Muslim Muhammed Ali, where he would like against the ropes of the boxing ring and lean way, way back on them and just let his opponent swing free. People who didn't know what he was doing, even people who were his fans, would start to think that he was getting pummeled and would realize that he was about to get knocked out, and then they'd be afraid that they'd be seen as being the sorts of dopes who'd backed somebody who was a knocked out loser, and so they'd jump to their feet and right there start cheering for the other guy. Yeah! Knock out that black guy! We never liked him! We hate him! And all the while, Ali was just lying back, lying on the ropes, waiting and listening to the crowd and learning who his real friends were. See, those punches weren't hitting him at all. They only looked like they were. And then, when the moment was right, he'd straighten up and lock eyes with his opponent and whisper to him, "For America," and he'd swing one punch and send the guy down like a sack of bricks. It worked every time. And then he'd leave the fight and know exactly where he stood.

Well, mark my words. Are you marking them? That's what's happening here. Except Mitt Romney is bringing some symbolism up in this joint, too. See, Obama's been in a symbolic boxing match all four years of his presidency. He's been in a boxing match with the economy, with the terrorists, with everything attacking America. And here's the sad thing...he's been trying. He honestly has. But there's just too much, and he's never really learned to box. That's the thing liberals never really understood about conservatives' opposition to Mr. Obama. It's not that they don't like him. It's the opposite of that, in fact...they admire him. They respect him. They were just so concerned, from the beginning, that this ambitious, smart, obviously skilled leader was going too fast, was stepping into shoes he just wasn't ready to fill. They were trying to prevent him from getting hurt, from taking on a load he wasn't yet ready to carry. "Just wait another few years," they pleaded. "Be patient. We see such great things in you. Nurture your abilities, like a gardener will nurture a beautiful flower. Then, when you are ready, you can lead."

But, like Icarus with his father, Obama did not listen. He stepped into that ring and was pummeled right from the get-go. He was knocked to his knees and staggered back up and then got knocked down again. And he's tough -- there's no denying that, a less-stout man would have gone down and stayed down months ago. But he's outmatched, and he's out on his feet.

And so, here's Mitt Romney. Also getting pummeled, getting hammered, getting wailed on as he holds his arms up in a desperate defensive posture against the ropes. But look closely. Look, there. See how he's twisted his body just so and that haymaker merely glanced off his gloves? See how he leaned back just so and the uppercut only grazed his elbows? The blows look fearsome, but they are all failing to find their mark. And some in the audience are beginning to fear, and their fear is exposing their weakness, and they are beginning to cheer for Obama. But the moment is coming, very soon, when Mitt Romney will straighten from those ropes, will lock eyes, and will whisper those words. For America. And then it will be over in an instant. And when Mitt Romney is president, he will remember whose voices he heard calling in that stadium. He will remember who abandoned him at the last moment. Mark my words, and mark them well.

Yeah, but Romney is still polling ahead on Planet Kolob, and that counts for 271 electoral votes, so Rmoney wins.

Alright, a Pocket Ninja thread!

I must admit to being surprised at the poll results at this time, was expecting Romney to throw so much money at the swing states that even a boring candidate would look preferable to a rendered-radioactive incumbent. Let alone OH or VA, that Romney has allowed Obama to remain ahead in FL is baffling. My rationale for why this is happening:

1) diminishing returns on ads. A forgettable ad played 3x as often is still forgettable.
2) the internet era. TV ads are being drowned out by Romney gaffes playing for free on youtube

I'm going to continue with my 303 EVs for Obama prediction but its looking increasingly likely for a 330+ blowout if not a 1984-esque landslide (thats a long shot but I wouldn't totally count it out).

Part of me really wants to be happy that Obama appears to be on a pretty good path to winning. The current state of the Republican party is not good for our country and will ultimately lead to our continued slide if given the reigns of government again before they come to their senses and kick the economically illiterate retiree Tea Party idiots to the curb

On the other hand, if Obama wins, it's four more years of Rightwingstan DERP that will only get worse as years pass.

You see, sensible people would see a resounding defeat as a wake up call that says that they should really really think about revising their agenda to something that actually works. However, today's far right wingers only see defeat as an excuse to fight harder and dirtier for the same agenda that the public just got done rejecting. It's a sickness, really.

In all our worry about the limitless money that can be spent now, we have forgotten to ask ourselves "what if we are moving into a world where TV ads don't mean shiat?"

The internet is the realm of the young (with the exception of the drudge report... eeesh) . We don't watch much local TV here (always on Sprout, go figure). I really hope that we can move toward less ads on TV. Less ads period. if I see Stand with Michelle one more time, I am going to puch my computer.

This! This is like the "blackjack system" where if you lose, you double your bet. If you lose again, you keep doubling down so that when you eventually win, you'll make all your money back. This is why the casinos have a table max bet. Unfortunately for the Rs, this table doesn't have a max bet and the odds of them winning another hand keeps getting worse every time they double the bet.

It is looking very like the Obama vs McCain race all over again, so a 2:1 EV ratio in favor of Obama doesn't seem a bad bet, although you never know. I doubt anything economic is going to swing anything at this point (unless something like the Eurozone implodes and it immediately junks the global economy), I think something like the ME riots could swing things, but Romney badly botched it so far, so it could swing it further away from him when it could have been a chance to put everything back in play again if he "used" it more tactfully/respectfully and didn't end up looking like a confused opportunistic asshole by his statements.

It's interesting, in playing with the electoral map you can get a strange electoral tie (which would be a Romney win as it goes to the house in that case) based on states that COULD conceivable go one way or another, though all of them going exactly that way makes it unlikely. Then it occurred to me that to get any sort of a Romney win, you have to do the exact same thing. Lots of the states in a Romney win scenario COULD possibly go his way, but for every single one of them to seems quite unlikely. If I were a betting man, my chips would be all squarely in the Obama win pile.

Despite the fact that I support Obama, I am a big fan of shenanigans so I REALLY hope for an electoral tie, or maybe it turning out that he actually WAS born in Kenya, just to see how that would play out, but I guess I'll just have to settle for another ho-hum election. Much like last time, when the polls close on the East coast, I'll be able to call it. All Obama needs to do is win Ohio, Virginia, OR Florida (all of which he currently leads in the polls) and it's a done deal.
