Odd you should bring her up - I, too, often have dreams of her as a wet female Mythbuster.
As for getting the Rose/Jack scenario, I'm often playing the role of Jack, and won't let go until I'm finished.
A woman like her could be a real asset in the shop, I'd have her take charge of my toughest tool.
Maybe she's good at fabricating wooden poles and then spit shining them.

/I feel awful for this

Cameron's explanation is logical and makes perfect sense. I can't really see Mythbusters wasting the time. Plus how could they recreate the exact bouyancy of that movie prop to historical standards?

When there's enough money behind it to hump Titanic one more time and get people to buy it all over again, they can pretty much make anything happen.

I enjoyed the first couple of seasons. Then they ran our of what could arguably be called "myths." That's cool with me I guess, because they were still testing some interesting ideas. Then they tangibly ran out of crap to do. All of a sudden it became the cute girl and Adam show. Cute girls are fine and all, but I don't like feeling pandered to. And Adam Savage gets on my nerves. It's like he can't stand to not be the center of attention. All joking aside, I'm pretty sure he should be on some kind of medication.

I get that a lot of Farkers still dig the show. That's cool. But for me, it just seems like they tried to coop nerd culture to keep their show going long after it should have been cancelled. Whatevs.

Let's start with this: I have never watched Titanic.

That being said, I have seen plenty of this argument. But it's always the physics geeks debating it. No one ever thinks about normal people in this situation.

If you were on a plank of wood and someone you had the hots for was in the water you'd try to drag them on to the plank. Otherwise you just had the really-likes.

Count me as another for the Kari camp. But I found her pregnancy replacement stand in Jesse strangely alluring. I liked her even when she was on that truck repair show on Spike. She seems fun and having grown up in north FL the redneck in me can't resist.

Haven't you seen te director's cut?

"Sorry, Jack, I've calculated it out, and given the bouyancy of this piece of wood, and our combined weights, it just wouldn't be stable."
"Couldn't we just see if it would hold us both?"

He talked about it on the Nerdist podcast. He couldn't actually say "Mythbusters" but it was clear what he meant.

For me, it's the whole... couldn't they have spent as much time as possible to find something else that floated... pile as much crap together as fast as possible, and bit by bit, they'd have something big enough, with something to row with, so to get more stuff.

At least with moving about, they'd generate some body heat instead of just drifting in the water for a nice freezing soak.

It's not like there was a shortage of debris, was there?

How was it not clear to anyone viewing Titanic for the first time that Jack could not also get on the raft? It shows what happened when he tried to get on it.

This. IIRC, it was a floating door. I can't imagine it has enough boyancy for two people. Rose was probably a stretch. The wonder is that Jack could concentrate enough to have a conversation with Rose while he was in the frigid water. Joe Queenan attempted it in an article "don't try this at home" for various things that are preposterous in movies, he settled with standing in cold water off the Jersey Shore and declared "as soon as the icy water hit my balls, I could think of nothing else. God knows what it would feel like in the middle of the Atlantic."

Anyway, for anyone that has tried to get on an inflatable device with another person, not a boat, it often ends up with both people being flipped into the water.

Honest Bender

I enjoyed the first couple of seasons.

Counterpoint: the first season or two had that insufferable "cultural consultant" or whatever the hell she was. The one who would provide suspiciously Snopes-y information about myths and such.

The third season or so really started to work: they had worked out the format and it seemed like they had gotten the budget to do more with the experiments.

Yup, ignoring the fact that when they were on the back of the ship as it went down they would have gotten sucked down by the wake and never have made it to the raft.

What's funny is Kate Winslet definitely weighs much less now. So, maybe if that jerk Cameron would have waited to do Titanic now, Jack may have lived and changed his name to Howard Hughes.

Actually, if she'd just stayed in the lifeboat Jack put her in, he would have had that piece of scrap wood to himself.

There was actually a person rescued from the water floating on a door from the Titanic that had broken loose and floated to the surface. It was a Chinese man who was either a servant on the Titanic or a steerage passenger. But because he wasn't white no one bothered to get his name or story.. Its mentioned in passing in one of Walter Lord's books on the Titanic
