Sour grapes, Submitter? If Apple can't do it, it must not be worth doing, right?

Christ, it was even still running? If it died quietly, it died as it lived.

Google social network? That's an oxymoron.

So, Friendster is still the way to go?

This is going to be a problem. I've patented quietly shutting things down. I'll be phoning my law-talking-guy shortly.

Yes, the problem is social networking, not Apple's piss-poor implementation and failure to build a fan base. Facebook's nearly one billion users are merely self-deluded and could never grasp the awesomeness of Apple... while they update their Facebook IOS apps.

To be fair, Apple had a built-in fan base for Ping, and I don't just mean the fanboys. Everyone with an iPhone, iPad, or iPod has iTunes somewhere, and Ping is all over it (when it's turned on). No, this failure is due mostly to piss-poor implementation. I also think the lack of Facebook integration was a strike against it from the beginning.

No, it's still very much there. It just retreated to it's niche in the music scene, which is where it started in the first place.

The decline has been fairly minimal, only a few percentage points in the U.S. However, it has seen large growth in Japan, Brazil and India.

Facebook integration was essential and Facebook and Apple could not agree on terms. Facebook didn't want people to have a "page" on Ping because that competes with Facebook. The next version of iTunes will do things Facebook's way.

Ping sucked from day one. No matter what I put in my playlists or submitted as Pingworthy, all I got back from that heap of shiat was recommendations for whatever suck ass top 40 iTunes was pimping at the time. Color me shocked.

I hand it Hayes Carll, Justin Townes Earle, Zoe Muth, and Hank3. It spits back Rihanna, Key$ha, Katy Perry, and Justin Beeper.

Fark you Steve Jobs, you suck.

Nope. Google+ has useful functionality even if you never touch the social aspects of it. It is here to stay, and will slowly cram itself down your at first reluctant throat. Just relax and it'll go easier.

From an advertiser stand point aren't users outside NA and western europe fairly worthless? That is what I keep getting told when I ask why i can't view US videos online.

Unfortunately, it seems like they've pushed Google reviews into Google+ which means I can no longer access reviews at work now since all social networks are blocked here. They've pretty much pushed me into the arms of Yelp and Urbanspoon with that move. Good job, Google.

I just learned this existed, and no that doesn't make me feel cool or edgy. I never saw an ad for this anywhere. Helps that I don't use Apple products, but I would've thought at least a TV add or two would have been viewed by me.

I guess this disproves the theory that apple could poop into a sock and people would buy it. Maybe that's the problem, it was free. Apple should've charged 5 25 bucks a month. Or maybe they should have made it invite only and you have to own 3 apple products and a mustache grooming kit to get one.

The biggest issue was that it was only accessible, and integrated, via iTunes. Even the most die-hard Apple person wants to spend as little time with that thing as possible.

Myspace has been dead since at least early 2008, maybe even earlier. It used to be one of the most visted sites on the internet, now it's a niche site where obscure bands post their songs.

Facebook is still going strong, despite the fact that every week or so some tech blog or magazine posts an article claiming that Facebook's days are numbered.
