Subby finally got it greenlit. How many submission was it?

Anyone have this story from a credible website?

If this is going to be a credible cause for conservative outrage, then they should really rely on something more than a quote from "senior diplomatic sources" given to an English daily tabloid, especially when named sources from the Office of the (US) Director of National Intelligence is flatly denying it (Link).

seems "the independent" is the only place with this information.

FTFA: According to senior diplomatic sources, the US State Department had credible information 48 hours before mobs charged the consulate in Benghazi, and the embassy in Cairo, that American missions may be targeted, but no warnings were given for diplomats to go on high alert and "lockdown", under which movement is severely restricted.

Deeper into my 30s, I'm old enough to recall when "independent" meant something.

Get off my lawn, recently minted conservative scum.

That tabloid's comments section was inundated with mouth breathers. I was wondering what right wing rag had linked to it.

Drudge Report.

And yes it's already been debunked.

Any links? If I google "warned of embassy attack" I get Derpistan's Greatest Hits for results: The Independent, WND, Above Top Secret... I'd like to be prepared to fend off the onslaught from my conservative relatives.

It was sourced from The Independent and, as you may imagine, picked up by every right-wing blog and news source in America. Politico has a report that cites a named US Government official who flat-out denies it.

While I don't want to overestimate the collective intelligence of the Federal Government, I have a hard time believing that our embassies in Muslim nations didn't have some inkling that things might get dicey on the 9/11 anniversary or that they weren't prepared for the possibility. If it comes out that Obama had a memo in hand that stated in the title "Libyan Terrorists Determined to Strike American Embassy" and he ignored it, then we have an issue.

If you choose to believe an un-named "senior diplomatic source" (from the US Government, presumably, but who knows?) over a named source from the US Office of the Director of National Intelligence, that's your business.

Very much remains to be seen. Outside of the usual echo chambers, so far, there does not seem to be much traction of the whole ZOMG WE NEED WAR NOW point of view. Quite the opposite. Hopefully saner, more sober views will continue to prevail.

I'm not believing for a second that these "protests" are spontaneous and I think the film is probably a red herring. I'm sure the rabble in the crowds were told that by religious leaders to whip them into a frenzy, but the attack in Libya was clearly something more. I do wish some people would stop bemoaning "abuses" of the First Amendment, regardless.

A bunch of other documents have come out recently showing the administration had been warned multiple times over several months by the CIA, but Bush was more interested in Saddam Husein.

This seems about as legit as the NYT piece that ran a few days ago about some other uncited intel Bush allegedly ignored before 9/11.

Security was shiat, and that's something we can all agree on and agree needs to be fixed now. And I'm sure the administration is already all over that. But at them moment, the rest of this blame or defend shiat is stupid partisan crap.

What republicans have taught me about what it means to be a patriot

A patriot:
*Sends thousands of Americans off to war because some man tried to kill his daddy
*Ignores warnings that his country is about to be attacked
*Uses unsubstantiated claims to discredit his president because he doesn't like what party/color the president represents
*Hides his money in the banks of other countries so he can pay less taxes to his country
*Personally overseas the closing of factories in his country and sends those jobs to factories in other countries
*Hopes for the financial decline of his country so he can win an election
*Atively use legislative measures to further the financial decline of his country
*Hopes for military attacks to kill citizens of his country so he can win elections
*Smiles shamelessly when people from his country are killed because he thinks he just scored political points

remember, when Republicans are telling you they are "patriots" this is what they are talking about.

The NYT piece (new window) was based on recently declassified daily briefings from before August 6th showing multiple warnings, including activity in the US.

This story is in a tabloid and is based on an anonymous source, and has already been denied by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

The level of legitimacy between the two is about the same as the difference in height between Bridget the Midget and Shaq.
