I went down to the local humane society today, because I really missed having a cat and my dog's missed having a cat, too. This little girl had been in the shelter since January 2010, and I couldn't stand the idea of leaving her there any longer... so Genesis came home with us :)

tigerose: Sherpa18 How are things going with you and Dragon? Sending such good thoughts your way!

Thanks for asking, I was going to provide an update until my network and photobucket decided to hack up a hairball. The white boy is pretty much the same - eating/drinking very well, purring and cuddling as usual. He is scheduled to go in for further tests (thanks to all of you wonderful Caturday farkers, we could not have done it without you!) this week, so keep your paws crossed!

Meanwhile, Dragon says just wake him when the wings are ready :o)

I don't post much here, even when I had TF, but have to share this cat story. Last year, while working for my landlord at his apt complex, my coworker came across a badly injured little kitty in the parking lot, after a couple days the poor little thing was not eating or drinking, so my wife took her to the vet. I was not expecting good news as her little head was torn up pretty bad, but once the vet cleaned her up it turned out better than I expected. We fed her and nursed her back to health, and she turned out to be a pretty awesome cat, we named her Nugget, she decided that I was her human, and life went on.
The last 6 months or so were not good for our family, the landlord mentioned earlier decided to make life a living hell, didn't want to pay me for my work (HVAC), which I was doing for damn near minimum wage anyway, threatened to make us homeless every couple of days, that caused many bad days at home, and about the only living thing that cared if I existed at all was our little cat, Nugget.
Finally the dude just refused to take my rent money, and when we were moving, changed the locks, so that kinda rushed things along. When I was putting our cats in my friends van, Nugget panicked and jumped out his window and ran like hell towards a wooded area, we could not find her. This devastated me, that little cat helped me keep my sanity during all the nonsense that the situation caused, my marriage was in the toilet, stress levels were over the top, but Nugget always was happy to see me, regardless.
We looked and looked, I started a third shift job, and would travel around the old neighborhood as often as I could at all hours of the day, the wife looked, neighbors looked, nothing. I made a flyer up, and posted it at a few local businesses, one a drive-thru that my son works at.
After a month passed, we figured that we weren't going to see her again, I made one last early morning pass through the neighborhood, and went home, going to bed so I could be ready for work that evening. My kid woke me up at Noon, holding a very skinny Nugget in a towel asking me if this was my cat. I was floored. She is slowly gaining weight, and seems as happy to back with her family as we are to have her back.
For some reason I can't make the link thing work, so here is the addy to an album
http://s243.photobucket.com/albums/ff39/Yoeman/Nugget/
Sorry for the novel, had to share this with others. The lessons learned were don't ever move your kitties without a a pet carrier no matter what, and never work for your douchebag lanlord.

Speaking as someone who has dealt with acid reflux for more years than I care to count, laying down is one of the worst things you can do - sit up! (recommended by my Doctor, and I have found it to be true ...YMMV). Feel better, and as others have said, check with your Doc just in case.

Prilosec needed? Did you call the doc? You and a heart monitor might need to schedule a meet up..the sooner the better! I am sure Micromedic would agree!

A dose of Pepto and nearly a quart of milk has tamed the burn tonight.

I saw that too. I had dogs when I was younger, and I had roommates with dogs. It made me smile, it also touched my heart. As someone in the video tab said, this was so funny until they realized it was also an eulogy. It made me think of what originally brought me into this community, which was the support I got after we'd lost one of our furbabies. I know (barring accident) I'm going to outlive Sammycat, and most likely to outlive Snuffers. The Mrs. and I realized we probably got our last cats when we welcomed Desi, Cisco and Jack into our household. Excuse me, I've got cats to hug......

Explosive sneeze,
Makes the cat look at me
As if to say "Oh please".

Could you not have caught,
That sneeze that I thought,

Was as bad a sound as Thunder?
Makes me Wonder.

Are you sick? You do don't look frail..
Must admit you are a wee bit pale.

Better snuggle close,
Administer a healthy dose,

Of purr and trill,
Makes your senses thrill.

Purrhaps rare,
Only fair.

You are my one and only,

Purrson.

Well, Mrs. B is on her way back to the hospital. She was here for about three hours today and everything went pretty well. It was sprinkling for a while, so she only got to stay under the car port for a little bit, and she was ticked she didn't get to use the grill, but was happy for some nice steaks and potatoes. Ferret babies went nuts with her. Luckily she was wearing sweat pants, and there were no signs of scratches, but the were all over her from the minute they got out of the cage. Au Jus kept trying to get underneath her, while Junior Mint and the other boys chewed on the tires. Everyone else just climbed all over her and were ducking in and out of the bag on the back of her chair. The kittehs sniffed around the chair and meowed at her, but didn't jump up to her. Fatty Waffles finally got in her lap, but didn't stay very long. She's not a lap cat, and is pretty standoffish, but she's always been that way. All in all it was a good visit and she was practically asleep by the time we got her loaded back into the transport van. A few of the neighbors came over and introduced themselves, and I was really touched by that. Kids and mom also did really well with everything. About the only hiccup we have is the bathroom, and I'll probably have install a new shower and tub, but she cried a good bit when she got here and realized that this is our home now and we don't have to live in apartments anymore. She tried to smuggle Gnocchi out of the house, but that didn't work. Thanks again for all the well wishes today and since this began.

The Ice Queen: melopene: So, Genesis hasn't eaten yet, though she has used the litter box. I know it's only been 24 hours and I shouldn't worry too much since she's got a lot of adjusting to do, but at what point SHOULD I start worrying that she hasn't eaten or pooped?

Also, she crawled up under the TV table earlier and was still there when I came home. It was a challenge to get her out from under there - I think she was stuck. Definitely going to have to keep an eye on that space.

2nd on what she's been eating at the rescue. I brought India home after she'd been at the rescue for 3 years (abandoned in 2008) and she had a hard time adjusting at first becuase it was all she had known for that period of time. I mixed a little of the rescue food (they send adoptive families with a baggie of food to get them started) and fed her by herself. If that doesn't work, try the Fancy Feast (mine can't resits the fish and shrimp one) or turkey (plain turkey) baby food.

As for the TV shelf, I don't think she was stuck. A lot of times, when they find a place they feel safe, they latch on and can make it hard to get them out.

Just a note on the baby food...make sure it doesn't contain any onion. Some varieties of baby food do and onion is really, really bad for cats.

Snuffycat (my namesake here) after his second helping of catnip. I've been planting it for years, this is the first time I've dried any to save over the winter months. I've got another harvest coming up in a few weeks, and I know that batch is even better than my first!

/All my cats were outdoor cats at my old house
//I grew it in a hanging planter by my front door
///A leaf a day ensured they were all there when I got home from work!

Your Snuffycat could be my Tegra's brother.

[i607.photobucket.com image 768x1024]

Good looking cat. Does he like belly rubs? He certainly looks like he'd like one!

She, actually (no worries, though.) Tegra's kind of funny about belly rubs. She'll lie next to me just like that, seeming to demand them. After a few minutes, though, something snaps and she tries to bite off my fingers/disembowel my arm.

I know about that disemboweling of the arm. Snuffy can only take so much attention and he snaps. He doesn't like belly rubs at all. I'm not kidding about the scars, Snuffy has given me a few. He was mistreated as a kitten, before he came to me. He learned early that biting and scratching protected him from the evil child 2 houses down. He likes attention but only on his terms. It's ok if he jumps on your lap, it's not ok to pick him up and put him on your lap.

Teggie seems to like belly rubs until she doesn't. I guess that's the only way to describe it. Otherwise, she's extremely affectionate, almost to the point of being annoying. Some nights, when I'm tired but can't sleep, she'll jump on me, walk up my legs like they're a ramp, and start kneading into my shoulder or neck. She has long claws, and she likes to dig. First thing in the morning, after we wake up, she'll show up and plant herself firmly over my bladder and try to pin me to the bed. My husband and I found her half dead in the middle of the road several years ago, and it's almost like she sees us as her actual parents. Our other cat, Milky, is more of the "only on her terms" type. She will not sit in our laps, she will not even sit that close to either of us, but when she wants petting, you'd better give it to her. I get the feeling sometimes that she's insanely smart and frustrated with Tegra, and us, and the housecat life, and so on...

(snip in order to highlight) Talked to the wife this morning, and she said that if the ferret babies don't come out while she's here, she'll run over my feet. Going to be interesting to see how they react to her and the chair, but we'll see.

This, and her "you can bite my shiny metal ass" comment just floored me. Your wife sounds like she has the attitude of "It is what it is" and then goes on to deal with whatever "it" may be with grace and humor.

Wait, does she know about the newest ferret?

Yeah. She has her computer and has seen all the posts I've made, so she's beyond anxious to see all of her babies and the newest baby. All the cats have been to the hospital, but can't take the ferrets because they are just too unpredictable in that kind of setting. Not to mention they are full blown terrorists when you're not looking. I'm still trying to find a pair of needle nose pliers they ran off with yesterday, and they've only been allowed in two rooms.

I love your descriptions of your home with the ferrets and kitties. Sounds like barely controlled chaos with a heavy dose of love!

I have to put a couple of thirty pound boxes in front of the kitchen door so they don't get out there, and the twin sisters, Salsa and Guacamole, who barely weigh 5 pounds together, somehow found a way to move one of the boxes and escaped into the kitchen. You can plan all day long on how to keep them contained, and five minutes later they're all over the house. Lots of patience and hide and seek skills are needed if you have them, because if you blink, they are gone. I love the kittehs, but the ferrets all have their own personality, and it's funny to watch them either fight or work together to cause some kind of mayhem. I'm thinking of sending in some videos so they can be in those commercials for All State.

I'd call the shelter and find out what she's been eating, unless you are already putting out the same food as what she had there. The move is a big change, adding a change in food doesn't help.

Oh yeah, and it will take her a while to settle into a new routine. She has to feel safe. Don't worry! Some cats arrive settled in and others can take weeks to months to settle in.

Thanks. The nurses and doctors looked at us kind of strangely since she finally came out of the coma, mainly because they didn't really know what to make of us. Now they just chuckle at the banter her and I usually do whenever I'm there. No sense in harping on things anymore. This is what we have and we better get used to it real quick or we're in a lot of trouble.

The slugs very early this morning. I have a feeling there will be plenty of baby slugs here soon.

I like to give slugs beer with a shot of salt.

I prefer pool/spa chlorine.

Used to put little saucers of beer out for slug traps. Turned out the robins really enjoyed the pickled slugs that resulted...

edit: Dexter VS Camulus...it just got serious

Riktor and Wimsey used to squabble frequently...then one day they got into a SERIOUS altercation that left both of them noticeably wounded...enough to warrant a visit to the Sainted Vet.
Wimsey, who is usually a very laid-back mellow boy had gotten into 3 fights in three days...and there was this ODOR when he did.

Turns out his anal glands were extremely impacted...which explained both the smell and his attitude...he was in pain.

He and Riktor are good buddies now...no squabbling, frequently eat from the dispenser side-by-side (which is why I got a dispenser with a big bowl). They'll share my lap in close proximity and I often see them sitting right next to each other, with one of them having his nose very close to the other's ear.

I wonder what they are saying to each other...

For the last couple weeks I've trolled the Catutday posts. My future wife found out it last week and has instructed me to apologize for being so rude. She reads fark but doesn't post or have a handle. I should have known better then mess with cat lovers. God bless and good day.

Hello Photobucket users!

We are aware of the upload issues that are causing your uploads to fail, and displaying the "an error has occurred" message. Our engineers are currently looking into this.

Your photos and accounts are fine, and we are doing everything we can to get the uploads back up and working again.

We thank you for your patience while we work to get this resolved. I apologize for anyone that has been unable to upload over the last few hours.

I will post another update when I have more information on when this will be/is resolved.

Thank you.

On the left is Sketchy, whom my wife and I have had for a few months and who was given to us because he was being abused. On the right is Sir John Simon, who we found in an alley hiding from birds. We were worried they wouldn't get along.

This was them after a day.

This is all Sketchy ever does:

This is Tom (not my choice of name). I got him because he was older - he was approximately nine then and therefore 11 now but no one is sure. Why would you want a kitten when you can have this, even if he does clash with the colour scheme?

i1126.photobucket.com

Tom doesn't clash with the color scheme, he is the contrast that hi-lites his surroundings.
And he's cute too.

melopene: I went down to the local humane society today, because I really missed having a cat and my dog's missed having a cat, too. This little girl had been in the shelter since January 2010, and I couldn't stand the idea of leaving her there any longer... so Genesis came home with us :)

Good for you! I have adopted adult cats in the past and have always been very happy with them. She has such a sweet face, and I bet she will thrive with your family.

The First Four Black Sabbath Albums: Big whoop! It's really not that hard to tell if someone is going into cardiac arrest. The cat would be a real hero if he had also administered CPR. Then, we'd have a story!

Where the heck have you been? I haven't seen you around for a long time.

I've missed Caturday's own purrsonal Troll. As they say he may be a troll, but he's our troll.

oh my! What a lovely girl! What a great person you are to adopt an older animal mwah!

I was thinking the same thing. The reason cats sit in shelters for years is because almost everyone wants a kitten. Melopene gets a big hug from me for taking an adult cat out of the shelter and promising it a good life in a home. Doesn't get any better than that.

hai, guise! I seem to be having massive computer issues, to say nothing of my dear (now despised) photobucket ... linking to the wrong pic every time I try, and being unable to upload anything. So I will have to dispense with my prepared "welcome to Caturday" pic, and drop this one in instead since it still seems to work (crosses paws)...

There are a lot of posts I would like to respond to, but it seems that it is not to be at this time :o(

I seriously hope I can get this figured out in the next day or so as I miss you guise, and I really hate the laptop keyboard (which seems to be the only way I can post anything right now)...

Sake' laser pointing the ferrets before attack. For those that watch Futurama, Good News Everyone! The wife is coming here for a visit this weekend. Sunday, her and the OT are coming out here for a couple of hours for her to get out for a while and see the new house. She's been out almost every weekend and a few times during the week, so this is her first big journey. I'm sure everything will go fine, I just have to go insane with moving boxes and stuff for the next two days. Kids are so excited right now. Mom is taking them to the hospital tonight for movie and pizza night, and give me a slight break to get some things done around here. Anyway, have a great weekend everyone.

Well, we've added a new inmate to the household - Cricket, a 1 1/2 year old pineapple green cheeked conure. We're fostering right now, but probably will end up adopting him. He has a few issues but is mostly a really sweet bird. He's helping me type (something the cats have never done).
