I just wanted to be in the room when they were working that one through: "Zingelbert Bembledack! Yingybert Dambleban! Zangelbert Bingledack! Wingelbert Humptyback! ... Slut Bunwalla!" "What?!" "All right, Kringelbert Fishtybuns! Steviebuns Bottrittrundle -" "No, Gerry Dorsey! I like Gerry Dorsey!" "No, we can't, who we got? Yep:

The man identified as the producer of the Muhammad film called local police in an effort to protect him and his family from potential harm, authorities told ABC News, as some media reports apparently listing his address have circulated.

FTA

California law enforcement officials told ABC News that Nakoula, who is also known to authorities as Bacily Nakoula, was frightened for his life and "scared of retaliation" against his family.

What did he think would happen? Iraq III?

The worst part of it is that the guy was a Copt. There's going to be some really bad reprisals in Egypt if this is true.

Do I think he is fully responsible? No. Do I think he is partially responsible? Yes.

This guy - along with Terry Jones - is obviously an asshole who went out of his way to cause trouble, and he has a long history of being a troublemaking asshole.

I'm sure that will calm everyone down in the Egypt, Libya and Yemen.

RexTalionis: The worst part of it is that the guy was a Copt. There's going to be some really bad reprisals in Egypt if this is true.

Like they'd be much calmer if he was jewish. America will still be blamed no matter who is behind it.

The simple truth is it doesn't matter that our government has softened our stance to the muslim world, it only takes one loony American citizen to exercise their Constitutionally-protected rights to set some of them off.

The problem is that there's no easy solution to the issue since our policies there have been farked for 60+ years. I'm sure they'd be a little happier if we abandoned Israel (which won't happen despite the fact that Obama has been cool to them), but that really doesn't solve the problem.

Maybe we could ship our fundie Christians somewhere, they could ship their fundie Muslims to the same place...and they could duke it out in a grudge match and leave the rest of us out of it. Say the Australian Outback. That way, the killer snakes, spiders and crocodiles will kill off anyone left.

/no offense to Australia.

Canada has a few large islands near the arctic circle that could easily hold them.

If true, it becomes more interesting, because the, reportedly, "Glenn Beck" type character who caused the trailer to go viral last week is well known as someone who has it in for the Copts in Egypt.

This is something the courts will decide but this could, arguably fall under "yelling fire in a crowded theater" situation. You can't yell "FIRE!" in a crowded theater and then remain guiltless and free of responsibility if people trample each other to death trying to escape.

And the Youtube activity for that was before the attack. Looks like there is a new account that is not the same person.

As much as I think this is a douchebag movie made by an asshole, this isn't analogous to yelling fire in a theater just because it offended people. If anyone should be moved to violence it should be the crew against the producer.

Let me try again. We were attacked by al Qaeda, the group we have been at war with for over a decade. To believe this attack was triggered by a film nobody saw and TerryJones actions is idiotic. But as liberals need a scapegoat to cover for Obama's failure is par.

You would have to prove to a jury that it was intended to spark violence, but that might be possible in this case.

It would likely come down to testimony from the people who helped make the film -- the ones who knew what it was really about, anyway. According to a right wing nut named Steve Klein who helped make the film, he told this "Sam Bacile" dumbass that he would be "the next Theo Van Gogh," and that the filmmaker said he didn't care. He further implied that Bacile knew this could cause a shiatstorm.

I think he has more to fear from the actors he tricked into being in the film, as they seem to have already organized themselves enough to make a joint statement.

I disagree just because he apparently lied to those involved in the film. There was an article on here earlier today about it. Those involved said that the video was originally just about Egypt before Muhammad and that all the anti-Muslim shiat was added in post-production. The guy in charge knew that what he was doing was offensive and if he tried to find people to do the movie as it was released and not as it was recorded then he wouldn't have had a crew. He knew what he was doing would result in possibly severe reactions and he did it anyway while trying to hide behind false names and screenplays

Well, let me try again. Al Qaeda was only able to attack us because of a riot precipitated by your hero, which they blended in with so that that they could get close to the consulate with weapons. If this inbred hick hadn't been pushing his war against Islam they wouldn't have received the opportunity they needed to launch an attack.

If this jack-ass wasn't actively trying to undermine the foreign and defense policy of the country he supposedly owes allegiance to, at least four Americans who were working for the interests of their country would be alive now.

I work in movies and I said before that if I were on the crew of that film I'd be pissed and depending on what kind of contracts were signed, the producer could be in a very actionable position. But that's a separate issue than claiming that the film was intentionally used to incite violence to the point of being criminal.

It's all about intent. if he intended to incite a mob or cause a violent reaction, he can be held responsible for any damages or death caused by the resulting actions. It's all a question of whether he was stupid enough to say or write something along the lines of "Man this movie is going to BLOW UP the middle east".
