I'm more and more convinced that Mitt holds onto his tax returns so hard not because he's afraid of what the Peasant Class will think, but because his weapons-grade hypocrisy has led him to short the Mormons their 10%, and Mitt is afraid when THAT comes out the elders will make sure Mitt's personal post-mortem planet is staffed entirely with poors who use shrimp forks to clean their toes and always leave the yacht's TV on monster truck racing.

Unless Obama actually brings this up in a debate, nothing will happen. He'll never release them and he might win anyway. It seems to have done NO harm to him.

Meh. Nobody cares. Even I'm tired of caring. You have an obviously evil scumbag running for president in a party full of obviously evil scumbags. The Honey Boo Boo demographic will continue to vote for these obviously evil scumbags. And nothing will ever change, ever. Don't delude yourselves: educating the ignorant masses will not change anything, either. Nothing we do short of dragging these evil motherfarkers into the street and giving them the French treatment will stop their evil motherfarkery. The only way these psychopathic bullying cumstains will be stopped is with the threat of immediate and sudden violence. That's it. That's all. Nothing else will stop them.

Now let me tell you how I really feel.

Entirely possible, though I'm not sure he's capable of an emotion like fear. More likely he's calculated that if he loses his temple recommend (and nothing will do it faster than welching), it will negatively impact his chosen lifestyle or his profits.

The guy is a sociopath, and I don;t say that lightly. Not the murderous kind - just the garden-variety, incapable of normal attachment and social bonding kind.

The plan of the GOP over the last several decades nears completion. I'm not blaming you or anything, but this is essentially what they banked on happening - with the tax returns, with incompetence, with torture, etc.

What truly scares me is the possible end game of the GOP. It is way beyond apparent that some of the largest corporations in the world have a major stake in the coming election. That along with citizens united already opens the door for rampant corruption, that should be enough for Big Business right? Oh no, not at all. If Romney manages to slip through all of this, win or lose without ever releasing his tax returns think of the precedent that gets set. I could easily see a future of privately funded candidates that never are called on to release financial documents to the public. We could easily look at a complete oligarchy within a decade.

Yes I realize this is hypothetical and a stretch, but the past couple of years have been no more crazy than that idea.

They'll leak. He doesn't file a 1040EZ. There is a team of accountants who worked on this thing and people in the Romney campaign who had access to it.

So what are they waiting for? It took them absolutely no time to talk about Palin, why haven't they parlayed this into major bucks yet? There has been ALOT of press on this, alot of pressure, alot of people really wanting to see them, and certainly there are people who would pay good money for them.

No, I don't think they'll come out, if they haven't by now. For whatever reason.

There should be a non-partisan surge of WTF over this. It should matter. Even worse is partisan trolls will not only not care about this, they will find some way to defend it, usually as a strawman. WHAR COLIDGE REKIDS WHAR?!?!??!

Don't worry Mitt, your facebook monkeys will continue to post meaningless pictures with idiocy on them defending you.

Who cares what the public thinks? As long as the VP has been privately vetted (to make sure that Ryan didn't try to write-off millions in marathon-related expenses), that's what counts.

2012-09-13 02:17:58 PM
It would be political suicide for income to show up from TARP/Stimulus on Mitt's tax returns.

/I honestly think that this is what he's hiding.

2012-09-13 02:19:04 PM
Didn't Romney give McCain 10 years (or more) worth of returns? Apparently, it's perfectly OK for a Secret Board of Shadowy Figures to vet a candidate's tax records in private, but the little people don't deserve them.

He just wanted to make sure the tax returns were worse than his own. Serves two purposes :
* Mitt can hold that over him
* Mitt can be sure he's weasilly enough.

The fact that no one has released them, even though they have been out there for over 4 years, is what makes me think they are "waiting". That's what "waiting" means - not doing something you could do, and allowing time to pass.

4 years is not a wait, by your standards? How about months? Because there's been alot of talk about this for months. And Flint has had his offer out there for a while, too. Why are they WAITING (e.g., allowing time to pass), if they intend to release the returns? Why not take the money and run?

I still say - if the people with access intended to release them, they'd be out there by now. Too much money is on the table, and not just from Flint. Not to mention the potential political gain. They won't see the light of day before November, if ever.

I'm not generally a gambling woman, but I'd be willing to bet on it.

Has he been asked about this directly at all yet?

All it takes is one reporter on Meet the Press or CNN or whatever asking Mitt Romney point blank: "Some have speculated that you're not releasing your returns because of the 2009 amnesty. Did you take that amnesty?"

He has to either admit that he did, tanking the campaign, say he didn't and possibly expose himself to a huge lie if he's caught, or dodge the question, increasing scrutiny. That's assuming he did take the amnesty. If he didn't, then no problem.

When one is surrounded by Yes Men for their entire lives, the tendency becomes to assume that one's actions are infallible. Mitt Romney is apparently incapable of identifying when or how he's erred.

We've had a lot of fun throwing about comparisons between Slick Willard and Pat Bateman, but the honest to goodness truth is that Romney is a worse person.
