PsyLord: beantowndog: I've never held an iphone, I wouldn't know the difference.

Pretty much THIS.

/never had one, probably never will
//will get the Samsung Galaxy III

I just picked up the Galaxy II last week, I looked at the III but it's like holding a farking tablet/book to your face, and I am very happy with my purchase. I went from the HTC Desire to the Galxay, huge difference in performance.

Trivia Jockey: I'm betting that a lot of people were just saying good things about the phone because they wanted their footage to be used on TV. If they picked it up and said "looks the same to me" they'd assume they wouldn't be on TV.

Its better not to be on TV than be on TV and look like an idiot.

I rather like the galaxy s3. It was really good for streaming the Olympics this past summer so we could watch a lot of events.

Agreed. Love my s3. I wasn't sure I'd get used to the size (that's what she said), having come from a...4 year old POS phone. But I can't imagine going back, now.

No fark thread would be complete without some douchebag political commentary on a subject that isn't political.

You're right. My fault.
Thanks for calling me douchebag-I'll wear it with a badge of honor.
By the way, I love my Galaxy Note.

MaxxLarge: Would've been great if he'd then handed them a Galaxy S III, and watched their little heads explode.

No one would believe that was the new iPhone because it's a shiatty phone. Specs aren't everything. Give me an iPhone or an HTC One Somethingorother any day.

I believe EVERYTHING that I see on a highly edited late night comedy show....everything. This is completely outrageous, who the hell does Apple think they are?

iPhone won't be able to to browse the web and do other things via LTE while peops are on the phone. Link

Some phones use dual antennas so you can talk and use the internet. Besides the S3, I couldn't tell you which.

KFBR392: rumpelstiltskin: I'm willing to believe Steve Jobs was a design genius, but really, how important is that when your customer is someone who can't tell that the thing in his left hand is the same as the thing in his right hand?

CSB:

I was at the mall with the wife. She wanted to keep shopping (women...amirite?) I decided to take a break and surf the internet at an apple store.

A guy had just purchased an ipad2 and was getting a lesson from the apple employee....And the employee is going through the typical list of things....you can look at pictures, play games, read books, check your email, surf the internet....

And the customer goes..."wait, I can check email on here? how do I do that?"

And this wasn't a question of "how do I set it up" or "where's the app for that?"...this was a guy who had just spent (at least) $500 on an ipad....and he had no idea what it did or how to use it.

That was the day I realized apple isn't a tech company. They are a brand. And simply owning the "thing" is more important that what it does. Which is why the iphone5, 6 and 7...will continue to sell despite making only minor upgrades and lagging years behind other companies in technology.

Wonder what phone you were using before the iPhone debuted?

Was it light-years ahead of the iPhone?

I am fascinated with how the smartphone BOOM, which you can thank Apple for a huge impact on, has given us enormous variety of devices and features for an affordable price ... but the (Typically IT centric) elitist snobs question why someone new to these devices should be purchasing them.

That Nokia N95 was awesome. Only $750. Man, I wish those days were back.

downstairs: Slow To Return: theflatline: Apple customers have the largest number of tech illiterate complainers I have ever come across in my 25 years of IT.

That's because Apple caters to them.

The OS is ridiculously easy to use, for a very good reason.

My daughter could navigate our iPad to find her favorite apps and movies before she turned two.

Keep It Simple, Stupid.

Yep.  I'm pretty sure my dad could figure out an iPhone.  Android?  Not so much.  I love my Android, but its a lot less simple.

I saw a Chinese 2 year old at a street food stall in the middle of China deftly operating her mom's Android phone, it's really not that hard to use. Unless Chinese toddlers are smarter than American adults, that is. My mom was born before the first computer and has no issues with her Nexus S, or with the Evo she had before that one.

Don't you want to be a cool guy who wears a hoodie and slip on shoes, who enjoys chillaxing to the latest Thievery Corporation album while sipping on sustainable shade grown organic java?

Work for a cell company. That dammed Iphone 5 sure brings out how spoiled some adults really are. Especially the ones that whose eligibility dates are not around the I phone's release date. I agree with a previous poster that Steve Jobs is a genius in how he can get people to buy the same phone over and over with very little in modification and charge $750 for it.

I love the cognitive dissonance in these threads. The people making snide remarks about iPhone users apparently don't realized they're just parroting anti-Apple propaganda pumped into their empty heads by Samsung's marketing department.

I was still using a flip phone because 1G and 2G, were pathetically slow and the phones were $600-$1000 each. Don't forget apple tried to sell a $600 iphone...and that lasted all of three months before they cut the price $200 because after the initial fanboy craze died down...no one was buying.

I don't want to get into a semantic argument, so I'll admit that apple was probably one of the more advanced phones when it launched. Maybe not on pure specs, but in terms of functionality and what it could...it was one of the best.

While all sorts of arguments can made about the android line vs. iphone battle in the following few years....Apple lost any chance of being #1 the day it launched the iphone 4s.

At a time when everyone getting better apple introduced voice recognition...something that has been available on androids for years (my sister's old HTC incredible 1 has it)...

Now, here were are, about 18 months (maybe 2 years) after the introduction of 4G...and apple is just getting around to it.

So not only do you admit to being uninformed enough to buy an Apple product, but you bought an end of life Apple product. Nice.

You've got another 2 years of contract now with a 3G phone? Ouch. You'll miss the whole 4G thing, 5G will probably be standard by then.

But iDevices never break, so why would they need IT support? Or a dedicated team at every Apple store to fix products that don't break?
