There must have been at least one person who called BS and they just didn't include it in the footage, right? That or once again I have to question my faith in humanity. Who am I kidding, I lost that a long time ago.

I'm willing to believe Steve Jobs was a design genius, but really, how important is that when your customer is someone who can't tell that the thing in his left hand is the same as the thing in his right hand?

People are gullible. Just looking at the sales projections for the iPhone 5 confirms this.

I'm betting that a lot of people were just saying good things about the phone because they wanted their footage to be used on TV. If they picked it up and said "looks the same to me" they'd assume they wouldn't be on TV.

Interesting take on people's perception.

Although they might be right about it being "faster." I'm not familiar with the current architecture of the iPhone OS, but if it allows some form of bloatware to run, a new phone will indeed be a little faster than an old one loaded up with crap. Again, that depends on the OS architecture, so I don't know.

Come on now! The screen is bigger, it can display a whole extra row of icons! And its almost got the right dimensions to display a standard 16:9 video without letter boxing or cropping. Almost.

And its the first phone in the world to support LTE!

/Actually would have expected Steve Jobs to have said that when they added LTE support, had he still been alive to launch the iPhone 5.

I'm surprised they didn't at least say that they're doing LTE the "right" way, which is basically what they said about making a bigger screen (to fit your hand, not because it's the new standard size for mid-range phones).

The do apparently have the thinnest smartphone in the world, which just happens to be thicker than the Droid RAZR.

rumpelstiltskin: I'm willing to believe Steve Jobs was a design genius, but really, how important is that when your customer is someone who can't tell that the thing in his left hand is the same as the thing in his right hand?

CSB:

I was at the mall with the wife. She wanted to keep shopping (women...amirite?) I decided to take a break and surf the internet at an apple store.

A guy had just purchased an ipad2 and was getting a lesson from the apple employee....And the employee is going through the typical list of things....you can look at pictures, play games, read books, check your email, surf the internet....

And the customer goes..."wait, I can check email on here? how do I do that?"

And this wasn't a question of "how do I set it up" or "where's the app for that?"...this was a guy who had just spent (at least) $500 on an ipad....and he had no idea what it did or how to use it.

That was the day I realized apple isn't a tech company. They are a brand. And simply owning the "thing" is more important that what it does. Which is why the iphone5, 6 and 7...will continue to sell despite making only minor upgrades and lagging years behind other companies in technology.

4NSpy: What if those people are only familiar with an iPhone 3 or 3g? Then their statements would be true. As for the guy that has a 4S, well, he's just excited about new things.

Yeah, that's true but you'd think they would have at least seen a 4. IMHO the only way to tell a 4 from a 4S is Siri and that's about it. I do think the screen on the iPad3 is much better than the iPad2 though.

Yeah, but people who ostensibly own the current one were saying things like 'Wow, much =faster', and 'The old one doesn't have both a back and front camera' on it. They also thought it was lighter and had a larger screen. In other words, these people had no idea what they were talking about.

Probably. As I always tell people, you don't set up a gag like this and just show the first ten people who show up. You stand on that street for 8 hours and shoot hundreds of people and use the ten best that illustrate your point.

To be fair though that is not a iphone or even a technology thing, just human nature. Crap reheated food eaten in a nice restaurant (and passed off as gourmet) gets higher reviews than the same food in it's original packaging for example.

The people who said it wasn't real or that they aren't released until mid-September are probably cut out of the videos.

For instance, my uncle was picked for a Jaywalking segment and got every one of the answers correct. The producers or handlers or whatever made me sign the release to appear on TV. What do you know....he wasn't used that night...or ever. It's just not as funny when common people know the answers to "Who is the current Secretary of State?"

Marcus Aurelius: People are gullible. Just looking at the sales projections for the iPhone 5 confirms this.

I'll buy a couple for me and my wife after the frenzy dies down. Our current phones are four years old and I've been waiting for LTE since this one is extremely slow at loading maps, etc. over 3G, and there wasn't anything about the 4 series that I saw as compelling. So between LTE, the new connector and the sum of the incremental improvements they've made since I bought ours, we'll get the 5s, grab a couple of Otter Boxes for our old ones and pass them to our boys. Then we'll wait another 3-4 years and see what things look like then.

I like the iPhone but am under no illusion that it's "something only Apple would do". I don't care that they shaved off 2 millimeters of thickness; I would have preferred that they keep it the same thickness and use the extra space for more battery capacity. I don't need a lot of apps, I just want something that works well and is easy to use. We have a Mac at home and it's just easier to keep everything synced this way. We also have a lot of people at work with iDevices and having one helps me know what they're talking about when they ask questions (I'm in IT).

Seriously... I honestly think some of you people are paid market shills for Apple, Samsung, etc.. No one gives a god damn what kind of phone you prefer. And they certainly don't care of your uninformed opinion of their own favourite phone. But don't let that stop you from souring the good name of the bad phone that you don't like.

fark yeah. "come on! who wants women to suffer? END WOMEN'S SUFFRAGE NOW!"

At least they left in some smart people who actually knew what suffrage means.

I don't know if it predates the man show or not, but I saw a similar thing, only the guy was doing it at a small, supposedly prestigious women's college. The only one (that wasn't edited out at least) to point out that suffrage was voting was some chick's boyfriend.

I'm not arguing with the premise of this bit but it's not like people were so much more tech-savvy back in the day than they are now. I think some of it might be that all these products are being re-released with new versions so often that it could be difficult to tell what the differences are between each release.

I was still using a flip phone because 1G and 2G, were pathetically slow and the phones were $600-$1000 each. Don't forget apple tried to sell a $600 iphone...and that lasted all of three months before they cut the price $200 because after the initial fanboy craze died down...no one was buying.

I don't want to get into a semantic argument, so I'll admit that apple was probably one of the more advanced phones when it launched. Maybe not on pure specs, but in terms of functionality and what it could...it was one of the best.

While all sorts of arguments can made about the android line vs. iphone battle in the following few years....Apple lost any chance of being #1 the day it launched the iphone 4s.

At a time when everyone getting better apple introduced voice recognition...something that has been available on androids for years (my sister's old HTC incredible 1 has it)...

Now, here were are, about 18 months (maybe 2 years) after the introduction of 4G...and apple is just getting around to it.
