"have developed a new technique for magnetically separating oil and water"
I thought water and oil naturally separate.

Alpo 3000: Cool application. There is concern flooding the environment with nanoparticles would have unintended consequences.

Phys.Org Ingested Nanoparticles

But they're not talking about dumping the nanoparticles into the environment.

What the second guy was actually saying was that once you skim a bunch of oil, you usually have about half oil and half water. You suck all that into a tanker and treat it with magnetic nanoparticles; the oil bonds to the nanoparticles, but the water does not. Then you remove the magnetized oil from the water, release the clean (and nanoparticle-free) water back into the environment, separate the nanoparticles from the oil, and recycle the oil. As a bonus, this works much faster than any of the technology currently available.

Looks pretty damn cool to me.

The day will come when we can easily and cheaply clean up every environmental hazard we have ever created. On that day the greens are going to look really stupid because their plan was live like cavemen and not make messes.

We should fast forward to that day asap instead of trying to be evolution's ass-hat and stop ourselves at an artificial and arbitrary point in our history.

Nano-tech and Fusion Flame recycling. We can recycle everything we have ever used since the dawn of time as long as we haven't launched its atoms off the planet. Every garbage dump, every plot of contaminated soil, returned to us as original elements in handy nano-tech packaging.

Or, we could go full Guns of the Patriots, and live under a war economy (or a similar one because the one depicted by the videogame is unsustainable). But yeah, technology IS the future.
