Would it be too damn much work for them to just play say 20 or so venues a year? Or how about one venue 20 times. Say once a month for 20 months.

Either you are being deliberately obtuse, or you are unaware of the horrible extent of LZ's plagiarization. They didn't just borrow shiat, they stole the whole damn song, then claimed they wr9ote it.

That's no lie.

Here's a revelation, everyone here already knows about it, so stop trying to be "that guy." The reason why we still like them is their original stuff was just as good and what they did steal they made a hell of a lot better.

Well, not better in every case, but many. Look at When the Levee Breaks. The original is just a standard 12 bar blues thing, Zeppelin turned it into an epic with no real resemblance to the original except for the lyrics.

And Dazed and Confused, the original isn't bad but would anyone remember it?

The majority of Zeppelin's catalog has nothing to do with old blues tunes. The may have gotten noticed on the back of old blues artists, but they greatness comes from the rest of the material.

Yes, because all of those old black blues guys railroaded already when they were young, had ample access to studios and producers and people who could help them make those songs as good as they can be.

I don't begrudge LZ for taking the music, it was done before and done since. I begrudge them the fact they have never once owned up to farking talented, creative musicians who had a societal hammer hanging over them just by being unfortunate enough to be black in the US in those days, nor have they offered any thanks let alone compensation for the music they wrote. MC Hammer had a better showing for using Rick James' riff while LZ stole whole songs.

Personally, I'm not really a fan of their old bluesy stuff (which was basically just a retread of the Yardbirds), but I still listen regularly to Houses of the Holy and Physical Graffiti

Also, they didn't just take from old black guys. They also borrowed from tourmates

Meh..I've had a bootleg of this since two days after the show.

Honestly, I hope this is Led Zeppelin's truly last gig ever. It will do nothing to prevent them from being played on every classic rock radio station every hour of the day, but at least there won't be a tour to cause them to make them be played twice every hour.

Ding! we have a winner. Most of Zep's thefts were for lyrics. Willie Dixon didn't write the riff to Whole Lotta Love, which is what people remember about that song, he wrote lyrics that the Small Faces stole for a song they called You Need Love (credited only to Marriott/Lane), which Plant (a huge Small Faces fan) nicked. Funny how nobody whines about the Small Faces theft......

The best example is Travelling Riverside Blues. Plant used a bunch of Robert Johnson lyrics from different songs, everything else including the killer 12-string slide riff is Zeppelin, but people still screech "Theft! Theft!".

Here's the kicker. I'm not really a big Zeppelin fan. The only Zeppelin record I like all of is Presence, which has a couple of kick ass tracks, but not really considered one of their greatest outings. But that said, they were huge, wrote a lot of classic songs and were hugely influential on generations of artists. They deserve all the props people can give them.

It's just plain stupid to dismiss LZ because they did some shady shiat early on.

Plus JPJ and Bonham where and awesome rhythm section.

And now I'm kinda sad. Thinking about JPJ/Bonham reminded me that The Ox and Moonie are gone too.

JPJ is awesome. Not only is he great at what he does, but he doesn't come across as a "Hey, Look at Me!" type of guy. He's always fine just supporting the rest of the band. He can be flashy when he needs to, and just fade into the rhythm when it's needed.

I feel the same way about classic rock in general. It wouldn't be so obnoxious if I didn't hear the constant bleating from the fans who think the only good music was made in the 70s by long haired white guys with electric guitars and Marshall amps, and everything before and after sucked. How can people not get tired of that shiat after a while?
