Actually, there were twelve terrorist attacks on U.S. diplomatic facilities abroad during George W. Bush's tenure - the most of any president in history - and eight of those occurred while Donald Rumsfeld was in office.

*golf clap*

I don't recall anyone in that mob of protesters carrying signs saying "We perceive you as weak".

Most of them were apparently mad about a deliberate piece of agit-prop being attributed to America.

/Donald Rumsfeld's total lack of credibility here is what some might call a "known known".

Just popping in to repeat, yet again, the FACT that there were more embassy attacks under oh so militant and uber war hero Bush than any time in our history.

Republicanism is what happens when deliberate ignorance mixes with a healthy dose of mind numbingly stupid, then they go to church to learn how to be fundyterrorist nutbags with nothing useful to add to the world.

These attacks can be laid squarely at the foot go GOP fundamentalists. They put out this video, they smirk when Americans die in a fire. Real live evil, right here at home. They need scourged from the land.

Garet Garrett: Thrag: Upon seeing that tweet I was almost tempted to sign up for twitter just to post:

"Do you ever lie awake at night thinking about how many American servicemen are now dead due to your complete incompetence?"

The sad thing is, he probably doesn't.

Just out of curiosity, do you attribute the death of our Ambassador to Libya to the complete incompetence of Secretary Clinton, under whose leadership our consulate was left with "lock and key" security (meaning no security at all, really), despite its presence in a city that has, for all of recent memory, been a hotbed of AQ and other Islamist terrorism? Christ, we literally have more security than that in our local courthouse. And I'm not using the word "literally" in the Joe Biden sense. We have bulletproof glass and other physical security measures as well as a fairly robust boot-based security system.

You do know that Embassies and Consulates aren't fortresses, right? You do know they are functional buildings used for conducting business and all manner of other things that would be impeded by security detachments of heavily armed US forces? You do know that according to international law, the host country is primarily responsible for the security of foreign embassies and consulates in their country, right?

You seem to be as clueless as Romney when it comes to foreign diplomacy and how it operates in the real world.

And here we have THE fundamental problem the GOP is having in this election.

They just aren't used to lying to a population that can now fact check anything in seconds and share the results instantly.

They're just not used to getting their BS called out so rapidly. It used to be they could toss out a lie and enough people would believe it that it was worth telling. Even if they got busted later, the overall effect was a net gain. Now they get busted too fast.

It's like whenever they pull the pin on a lie grenade it just goes off in their hand. For some reason they keep believing the next one will go better.

/ And facts have a well-known liberal bias to boot.

Yes, America's percieved weakness.

We send armed drones by the sky-ful to kill paramilitary criminals, but they think we're weak. They can't keep a #2 terrorist employed/alive long enough to get his ID badge, but they think we're weak. We provided most of the manpower NATO used to dethrone their dug-in, 43-year-tenured dictator - which couldn't be done by Carter, Reagan, HW Bush, Clinton, and W Bush - but they think we're weak. America can have a new squad of Marines guarding the embassy - and two more warships in the region - within 24 hours of an attack, but they think we're weak.

Republican politicking - say whatever's convenient to the narrative, facts and logic be damned. You'll just say something else (perhaps even contradictory) tomorrow anyway.

Wasn't it Sun Tzu that said something about your enemy underestimating you being a good thing? If we are not weak then wouldn't their perception of us as that be a good thing? I know I'm comparing a pagan Chinaman's outlook on war to the GOP's ideas of war, but more than a few people have given Sun Tzu a thumbs up through the centuries.

And if anything about American policy in terms of war and military makes us look weak in the eyes of the world, it would be the way America has waged war since WWII. We invade, kill people, lose troops, destroy things, spend a lot of money, rebuild an infrastructure we destroyed, then leave and things return to how they were for the most part. If America waged war like Rome, and the knowledge was out there that when we decided it was worth coming to your country to teach you a lesson that it would be a harsh lesson lasting generations. Getting invaded by America is like getting home renovations. It's kind of dusty and a pain in the ass for a bit but when they're finally done your shiat will be better than it was before.

And Rumsfeld can eat a box of it!

Do these people have the decency to realize that there are peoples lives in danger, so they should shelve the attacks on the president and either try to help do something to fix the situation or shut the hell up until the situation is resolved if they have nothing useful to contribute? But I guess that is just the Republican mentality. If these guys were in a building that was on fire instead of trying to figure out how to get out of the building they would be busy trying to find somebody to blame the fire on, then blaming the architect for designing a building that could catch fire so easily, and the fire department for not foreseeing the fire and preventing it from happening.

Boy I hope your wrong. I would not want to live in a world that works that way.

Don't worry. Israel is not crazy enough to launch a pre-emptive strike on Iran (their intelligence people have said that going it alone, without US help, would basically be suicide for the region), and according to a US military assessment released this morning, an invasion of Iran would be more costly in every sense than Iraq and Afghanistan COMBINED.

Never mind that if Netanyahu started massing the military, Knesset might actually call for a new coalition. Israelis don't want this war, even more than Americans don't want it.
