These comments and actions might be a great thing in the long run, provided Obama wins the election. It will show clear proof that Obama should have prosecuted the Bush administration's neo-con people. Obama decided in 2009 that prosecuting Bush et al., for war crimes would have been bad political theater. Now, he will see that they haven't learned their lessons and are willing to commit the crimes again. He will prosecute now, and hopefully, these people will hang.

DoBeDoBeDo: Well technically he's correct. Our Embassies are rather small in comparison to the country they are in and the amount of Marines on guard cannot possibly hold back the population of a city for very long. So the Embassy is a very weak target.

We should probably just put a brigade at each embassy. That couldn't be misconstrued for an occupation, right?

Just out of curiosity, do you attribute the death of our Ambassador to Libya to the complete incompetence of Secretary Clinton, under whose leadership our consulate was left with "lock and key" security (meaning no security at all, really), despite its presence in a city that has, for all of recent memory, been a hotbed of AQ and other Islamist terrorism? Christ, we literally have more security than that in our local courthouse. And I'm not using the word "literally" in the Joe Biden sense. We have bulletproof glass and other physical security measures as well as a fairly robust boot-based security system.

2012-09-13 11:14:59 AM

wejash: "They" attacked us Libya.

So we should invade Iran right away.

What?

Isn't that how this works?

Get attacked by a small lunatic group of terrorists in one place and blow the crap out of and occupy a completely unrelated nation we're pissed at?

Yes...a brilliant plan. Worked so well for us in the past, let's try it again.

We learned that occupying sucks. This time let's go in, obliterate their military, and give the civilians 48 hours notice to leave. Then....glass parking lot and we're done.

You do know that Embassies and Consulates aren't fortresses, right? You do know they are functional buildings used for conducting business and all manner of other things that would be impeded by security detachments of heavily armed US forces? You do know that according to international law, the host country is primarily responsible for the security of foreign embassies and consulates in their country, right?

You seem to be as clueless as Romney when it comes to foreign diplomacy and how it operates in the real world.

Meh, just free-form trolling.

This morning a co-worker said the ambassador and his staff had no business being in Libya anyway, so they got what they deserved from trying to negotiate with terrorists. This guy is sort of a dim bulb, so he must have gotten it from Hannity yesterday, Boortz this morning, or some crappy blog.

I expect you'll be seeing a more polished version soon.

Just popping in to repeat, yet again, the FACT that there were more embassy attacks under oh so militant and uber war hero Bush than any time in our history.

Republicanism is what happens when deliberate ignorance mixes with a healthy dose of mind numbingly stupid, then they go to church to learn how to be fundyterrorist nutbags with nothing useful to add to the world.

These attacks can be laid squarely at the foot go GOP fundamentalists. They put out this video, they smirk when Americans die in a fire. Real live evil, right here at home. They need scourged from the land.

That and the State Dept was dinged for not having adequate security.

From that link, it looks like State was in cost-cutting mode, skimping on its own security, which I find strange. I couldn't, in some quick googling, find out the source of cuts to State's budget, or calls for cuts to their budget. I suspect someone could find a source, but this can't have happened in a vacuum.

Once again, for all you right wing retards. Free speech means that you are free to say whatever you like, but you are not immune to the consequences. Hence, I can walk up to any elected official and tell him that I think he's a sekrit muslin and not have to worry about getting locked up by some goon squad.

No one is calling for the filmmakers to be jailed. they are calling them many other things, most assuredly, but they remain free to make another garbage film and release it onto the world. That is free speech. When someone tells you to go fark yourself because of what you say to them, they are not infringing on your rights, they are exercising their free speech.

The notion that anybody else in the world has to respect the constitution is laughable. Do you follow the Magna Carta? How about the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms? I didn't think so. Unfortunately, this is what being hated by the rest of the world brings the US. Perhaps the reason Muslims and the Middle East in general doesn't like America isn't the fact they hate your free speech, it's that the west has spent the better part of the last 30 years bombing them.

Pshaw. They are mindless Muslim killbots dedicated to the destruction of all things American and good and free.

To imply they actually have valid reasons for anger towards the USA is implying that they're human beings with the same capacity for anger and irrationality as the rest of us, which makes it difficult to ignore it when a drone accidentally blows up a bus full of their kids.

So repeat after me. Mindless. Muslim. Killbots.
