(The Daily Dolt)   Donald Rumsfeld says embassy attacks are due to "perceived American weakness." Apparently, he's never heard of Google, which easily allows people to look up the number of embassy attacks under Bush/Rumsfeld   (thedailydolt.com) divider line 215

How exactly do they explain 9/11 then?

The total number of military personnel needed to secure our embassies is on the order of several hundred thousand troops.

/I hope Rumsfeld dies of apoplexy when he reads that

The point is you have to look east, west, south, and north somewhat.

Rumsfeld shouldn't even be giving interviews period, let alone on the subject of foreign policy.

One of the great injustices of this world is the fact that Donald Rumsfeld is not incarcerated in Federal prison or detained in a mental institution. The idea that we should give his ramblings the slightest credence is laughable.

2012-09-13 10:27:13 AM
Since the Obama administrations' response appears to be "We had no idea that something like this could happen on 9/11," subby needs the who's google-fu skills are lacking.

/Seriously, Hillary Clinton was surprised that Libyans would attack an American after Americans helped liberate their country from a despotic leader. Just wow. Was she asleep for last 12 years?

Clinton. They claim 9/11 was due to Bill Clinton weakening the military and dropping the ball on Bin Laden, despite the fact that in 98, once it had been certified by the CIA and FBI the Bin Laden was responsible for the Cole attack and the African embassy bombings, he put together a task force to track him and made killing him a top priority.

beta_plus: I love how liberals aren't even really trying anymore to pretend that the believe in free speech for those who they don't agree with. After their butt hurt over Chick-Fil-A day, they just see this as the perfect opportunity to pass laws to make sure people that they don't agree with don't have the right to speak freely out of "not offending muslims to protect national security".

I know you're a troll, but this is the argument from some on the left. In what way are liberals restricting anyone's first amendment rights? The embassy condemned the film and said it doesn't represent American values, that's it. No one has called for jailing the producers, or shutting down the film, or stopping it from being distributed. No one is trying to stop anyone's right to produce whatever films they want, that doesn't mean that we have to pretend that this is now the national film of America.

That's a bad pickup, unless you had to drop OBL (as he's on IR). Rummy's a 3rd receiver at best, so he's not gonna be targeted often. Yeah, he may get catches, so if you're in a PPR league it's not a bad play for the flex, but I'd try and get a John Yoo (Running Scared) or maybe a good defense (I hear good things about Russia).

You could also gamble on a rookie like that Romney guy - flashy, but he may not ever become an elite in this league. Also, do you really want a TE with chronic butthurt problems (think Antonio Gates' foot)?

Generation_D: Has anyone quietly suggested yet that those that would benefit most from Obama looking soft on foreign policy are the same people who have been arguing for war with Iran?

Follow the money on this one, the hit on the embassy was pretty well organized, and there are state actors in the region who are pretty happy if they can goad the US into another war.

It will be very interesting if Obama / Clinton / Democrats can truly stand this test, I am rooting for them to do so, but this is looking very much like October Surprise type stuff, particularly if it keeps happening with more attacks.

The neocons didn't all just stop their crap because Obama won the convention presentations. They still want another war, and this attack would traditionally be something that would help them to get one. They think Obama's another Carter, and this plays right into that.

Eisenhower's biography described his presidency as basically 8 years of constantly fending off Hawks in his cabinet, at the pentagon and in congress from starting World War III. It's what led to his famous, Military Industrial Complex speech. He knew exactly why they wanted to fight. I'd vote the hell out of a Zombie Ike if he ran today. He basically saved the world a dozen times from the war hawk Yeehaw mentality of post WWII 'murican exceptionalism.

Get attacked by a small lunatic group of terrorists in one place and blow the crap out of and occupy a completely unrelated nation we're pissed at?

Yes...a brilliant plan. Worked so well for us in the past, let's try it again.

Yes there is free speech, but that doesn't mean that there are not consequences for your actions. By no means am I condoning the tendency of a percentage of the Muslim population that turns to violence when Mohamed is disrespected. Not only is this wrong but the mob rage that ensues is directed at random targets motivated by racism similar to how anyone that looked middle eastern were attacked/ostracized after 9/11. I'm just saying that if you walk up to a couple in a bar and flirt with a woman in front of her boyfriend, you can't be overly surprised when you get punched in the face.

I can only imagine it's because they surround themselves with like-minded sycophants who fawn over them and adore them and agree with 100% of what they say. Nobody in his party has the balls to tell Rumsfeld, "Wow, that's farking stupid and so are you, chum.". So when anyone else says it (or, EVERYONE else), they chalk it up to "liberal malaise" or "left wing stupidity" or "naivete".

Just glad I'm not an American when this guy speaks, because he would boil my blood. As it is, I'm amused at how completely out of touch this shiatstain is.

odinsposse: shastacola: What is the percieved weakness of the Obama administration concerning the Middle East, anybody know?

Republicans want it to be true and so they've decided to start saying it until they have sufficiently convinced the world that America is weak.

And of course if they succeed, more Americans will die serving their country - of course not them personally, so that works out fine - the more Americans they can help get killed while Obama is President, the better they think their chances of election are.

/GOP - willing to throw the American Economy, American Diplomats and American soldiers under the bus if it makes Obama a one-term president

And don't forget they were appointed by Obama. So they're Democrats.
And when a bunch of Democrat appeasers get killed by the terrorists they're trying to coddle,
And I can leverage it into firming up my foreign policy cred,
And get a nice little bump in the polls before the debates,
You bet I'm happy!

It is interesting that the 1979 Tehran attack is not on the list. Perhaps it is a special case since it pretty much signaled the end of that diplomatic mission altogether. It is listed in another list here.

Of course, omitting an attack from 1979 on that list isn't any kind of logical counter-point to TFA and/or Rummy's hypocrisy.

You'd think the GOP would have put this sage foreign policy philosopher on stage for the convention a couple of weeks ago... Curious that most of those masters of diplomacy and foreign policy from the Bush Administration were left off the roster.

'Course, a Romney Administration would have most of these geniuses in his staff, so I guess the oversight isn't that big of a deal.

Well technically he's correct. Our Embassies are rather small in comparison to the country they are in and the amount of Marines on guard cannot possibly hold back the population of a city for very long. So the Embassy is a very weak target.
