I'm excited for the game, but I'm not exactly hopeful for a Bears victory. Even if Jennings doesn't play and Tillman does, I think Chicago will need to win the turnover battle to come out with a win, and Rodgers doesn't exactly give the ball away a lot.

That said.

BEAR DOWN!

That is the old MNF opening right?

I wonder if someone has up screen caps of all the matchups of the "helmets hitting" for every pair they did. THat would be pretty cool.

Captain Steroid:

I have no clue what that has to do with anything, but I love it.

I may have to try and find a olive stream of this game. Being in Europe does have it's disadvantages, namely not having access to college and professional football. Really throws off a 30 year weekend tradition.

Yes, the Bears can beat them. I don't know if they WILL, but they CAN. Packers / Bears games are always worth watching.

No, the Packers will never suck as badly as the Lions. Green Bay will definitely win a few games this year.

2012-09-13 12:07:54 PM
Packers/Bears games are always close - don't see how the Bears wouldn't win this one, given that the Packers could barely beat them with a healthy offense and decent defense (and before the Bears actually got offensive weapons).

Chicago has the edge. Definitely not a good way to start the season for the Packers - two 10+ win caliber teams in the span of five days.

As a Vikings fan I will watch this game closely. I will hate both teams and wish both could somehow lose. That being said watching the Bears just doesnt seem the same without Urlacher on the field.

Yes, all of these things. All of them.

The only reason I ever want the Packers to win is that when they lose this whole state turns in to the biggest herd of angry drunks you've ever seen.. if the Badgers keep sucking and the Packers lose a lot it's going to be a long, cold, angry winter around here.

He is playing. They pulled him out in the 4th quarter last week to preserve his knee which was just operated on. He won't be as effective as you are used to seeing but he will be on the field. Greg Jennings might not be.

Imagine if the boys BB team sucks and doesn't make the tournament. People might actually long for the Brewers harder than they ever have.

That's what I heard as well. Lovie pulled Urlacher out of last game just after halftime, even though Urlacher said he was still feeling fine. Word is he's been focusing on conditioning rather than rehabbing the knee this week, because the limiter against the Colts was he wasn't quite in game shape after missing all of training camp and preseason.

But we'll see. A slow Urlacher means Rodgers picks apart the middle of the field all day. A fast Urlacher combined with no Jennings and the Bears surprising rotation of pass rushers could make tonight very interesting.

Bears passing defense didn't look all that good against the Colts with the exception of Jennings. It's raining here now and if it continues into the night teh receivers may have issues hanging on to the ball which would favor Chicago because they actually, you know, run the ball.

People who have never lived in the midwest have no idea how serious you are right now.

I am 100% serious. When the Packers lost to the Giants in the NFC championship a few years ago I had to leave my friends place because I cheered when the Giants hit the game winning field goal and one of the dudes there got in my face and said he would kill me (and I'm not convinced he wasn't serious). One of my old boyfriends dumped me for a while because I cheered against the Packers. This shiat is serious.

I mean the boys basketball team losing too. When I lived in ND the entire state would shut down for State Tournaments. Folks get crazy about that shiat in the upper midwest.

Gotta get up at 1 AM for this one. I might be a wee bit grumpy tomorrow.

Go Bears!

I won't be in the thread tonight because I, a former Chicagoan living in California, invited a Packers fan to my apartment for dinner and the game. He should be bringing Leinenkugel; Mr. 42 (a.k.a. BKITU) suggested that we provide some Old Style, but I hope the local BevMo stocks some good Chicago brews.

/I'm...not even that much of a Bears fan, it pains me to admit. I didn't get into football until I met my husband, and he's a Chargers fan. This means that I really dislike Jay Cutler. However, I did my undergrad in Wisconsin, where I was surrounded by annoying Packers fans. So...yeah. Go Bears! Please win with field goals.

(Some) Churches in Wisconsin move their services so they don't conflict with Packers games. The Packers logo is on the state income tax form. When I ushered a classical concert at my college, there was a lady decked out in full Packers fan regalia (including a skirt with a Packers print and a hair clip festooned with yellow and green shoelaces) -- this was evening attire for her. Packers are serious business.

i would argue that those are more examples of rural midwestern tackiness than sports devotion.

The nice thing about this game is someone has to lose.

A bonus is the NFL released this statement today;

In light of some confusion surrounding the ruling of the CBA Appeals Panel, it is important to understand what the panel did and did not rule. The panel did not overturn the suspensions and did not say Commissioner Goodell overstepped his authority.

The panel's decision asks no more than that the commissioner clarify his earlier rulings to ensure -- and to clearly state -- that no part of the prior ruling was attributable to matters within Professor Burbank's authority (salary cap violations). It does not require the commissioner to take additional evidence or to "reweigh" the evidence currently in the record. The panel did not take issue with any findings that were made in the course of the investigation, did not exonerate anyone involved, and did not say that the commissioner "overstepped his authority."

The panel made clear that the commissioner had full authority to impose discipline on the players so long as the discipline was attributable to conduct detrimental to the league, rather than "undisclosed compensation." The panel asked only that he clarify that he was not relying on the "undisclosed" nature of the financial incentives in imposing the discipline. In the meantime, the panel put the suspensions on hold.
