The talk on the street is that the Feelies were the first choice, but they wanted too much money.

I don't think Apple is the biggest corporation on Earth by a long shot.

Apple totally sold out in the 80's. What took these idiots so long to figure it out?

Wow, I think after reading that I grew a neck beard and suddenly have a thirst for PBR. Hipster douchebag.

GE I meant. I'm pretty sure lots of things are bigger than GM these days.

iPhones, actually: "One Apple product, something that didn't exist five years ago, has higher sales than everything Microsoft has to offer. More than Windows, Office, Xbox, Bing, Windows Phone, and every other product that Microsoft has created since 1975. In the quarter ended March 31, 2012, iPhone had sales of $22.7 billion; Microsoft Corporation, $17.4 billion."

Apple's musical tastes are arguably better than most companies. I've discovered so many neat new artists through Apple or iTunes,

What in the god damn shiat does an artist selling wares on iTunes have to do with Apple's musical tastes? And how does a company have musical tastes?

I want a band that reflects the image of Apple that was cemented in my brain over the last decade, so I don't have to be reminded of the company Apple has become.

He never actually names a band that would meet his criteria.

The Saudi state oil corp is probably bigger, though I guess it depends if you count them or not.

Apple fanboys are a special brand of retarded. Buying overpriced, mass-produced products from a giant corporation doesn't make you edgy or cool or rebellious. It makes you no different than people who pay $500 for a pair of pants because they have some dipshiat's name on them.

Very true. They should add a hipster button on itunes that will sort bands by fewest songs sold.

So the largest company in the world has failed epically by having a band people have heard of play at its press event. Holy crap. If that's all you can find to biatch about then you're as blind as a horses ass. The iphone is a steaming pile. My wife has an iphone 4 and I hate its little electronic guts. It was inferior to my galaxy 1 that was already a year old. Sure it looked pretty, but when it came to actually doing stuff with it, my model-year-old samsung phone had it beat. I'm sure fanbois can thoroughly debunk my analysis with a discussion of superior pixel depth or color palettes or icon and app prettyness but when it comes to having a phone to do real world work that doesn't drop calls constantly and can't be battery-pull rebooted when it's glorious little apps brick it, the iphone sucks butt.

2012-09-13 10:22:27 AM
FTFA: Are they no longer the young rebellious company living on the fringes of mainstream, willing to do something wacky, rebellious, and totally incredible?

We have a winner... especially the part about "living on the fringes of mainstream." When you consider everybody and their grandmother has an iPhone, iPod, iPad, or MacBook, that'll definitely kill any "fringe" aspect.

I have worked for years with mobiles of all brands, and I can say that you're arguing from ignorance here. You know nothing of which you speak.

Maybe next year they'll get Frankie and the Suicide Nets to play a few tunes.

1. The author seriously needs to get a life. I find it bizarre that the author apparently bases his self identity off the marketing campaigns of the worlds largest tech corporation. Becuase when I think of the worlds biggest tech company, "hip" "indie" and "rebellious" totally come to mind... wtf?

2. the Foo Fighters rock.

Since when have Apple or its users been "rebellious"

Wow, the comments after his article are hilarious. Apparently there are a lot of people who think Foo Fighters are some sort of legendary rock badasses, rather than the reality that they're the US version of Nickelback...

It's the bands they get to play WWDC that really matter.

One could argue Kurt Cobain killed himself rather than spend the rest of his life as a sellout (or even a self-parody like Mick Jagger after Altamont).

OTOH it's impossible for a big multinational corporation to sell out except by, oh, taking money to endorse the International Socialist Organization.

Come to think of it, since the purpose of a corporation is to make money, they could only "sell out" by giving their workers a decent wage and safe working conditions and by selling their products with a markup just high enough to allow them to keep doing so.

It's the Foo Fighters who are the sellouts.

However, "Poo Pounder" is an anti-gay term like "fudge packer." Please desist from using it.
