Why are things like this not an automatic "You are kicked out of the state gov"? They obviously cannot be trusted.

FTFA: "While some constituents said Council is well-known and well-liked, others said she will now be on her way out."

That's some mighty fine journalism there.

Using campaign funds for gambling: Candidate shows feelings of an almost human nature.
Using gambling funds for a campaign: Right this way, money.

So, it's OK when politicians throw away taxpayer money, but you can't gamble with campaign funds. Sounds legit.

You should never gamble with your investments

If this had been some bookkeeper embezzling funds from her employer to gamble I am pretty sure it wouldn't be a misdemeanor.

Our system is totally farking corrupted and is starting to look more and more like some banana republic every day.

Our state senate is officially non partisan and party affiliation is usually left off local news stories.

topcon: Her constituents will still re-elect her regardless.

Not likely. She is up against Ernie Chambers, the longest serving State Senator here in Nebraska. Chambers had to leave office because of term limits, but after sitting out a couple legislatures he's eligible to run again.

Wait that's not a legitimate use? What if she won? Who doesn't want a lucky senator. TV ads don't always work either, it's all a gamble.

Jon Bruning going after someone based off of shady dealing with regards to campaign contributions? Pot meet kettle. This is the fella who's never held a job that wasn't an elected state government position, and yet can afford a million dollar vacation home that he generously shares with campaign contributors. He's probably over his electile dysfunction cause by losing the senate primary and now being able to go after a Democrat. This was the fella that called poor people raccoons, so you know he's happier than Bob in the Enzyte ads.

/Bruning is sleazy
//Council however, is stupid

Well, if she had been a Republican, the article would have been written more along the lines of, "Republican State Senator Republican Brenda Council (R-NB), who is a Republican just like Mitt Romney, has confessed to stealing campaign contributions to fund her typically Republican gambling addiction, though she almost certainly won't face charges due to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's Republican influence."

Party affiliation doesn't matter as the Unicam is non-partisian. Although I believe technically, she is Democrat, she serves North Omaha, a very low income project oriented part of the city, that I cant see any republican wanting to serve.

if you've seen some of the mailings and ads that have been run against the likes of Dubas, Reiman, Sullivan, or Ewing, you'd know you'd need to hire a Bobcat to clear away that bullshiat.

Bruning said Council's bank records and video from casinos show Council taking out advances or cash withdrawals. Council said it's her intention to repay the money that is unaccounted for.

Imma gonna pay you back. I just need to withdraw like $50k again, and ONE NIGHT at the casino. Maybe we'll need to do that twice, but you can tell Jabba I've GOT his money.

"She's always been professional, always helped the community, so let's judge her on those," Whitner said.

yeah, she's part of the community, she's just only helping herself now. Anyone remember a certain Martha Stewart going to prison for "protecting her investments".

"Little Jeffery Dahmer was such a nice boy, just forget about the murder, rape, dismemberment, cannibalism. I mean, he just really likes people."

I don't understand the outrage. She wasn't stealing anything. These were donations. She has no more obligation to use the money for campaigning than a bum on the corner has to spend your two dollars on a cheeseburger instead of a bottle of MD2020.
