I've never heard an atheist apologize for Mao killing tens of millions of religious people in the name of communistic atheism.

Because atheism isn't a religion. Being atheist is being free from the shackles of mythology, not being part of a club.

And Teahadists would never apologize. Never never never!!!

BokChoy: bdub77:

I fully expect the US will provide intelligence of the whereabouts of the terrorists to the Libyans, who will hopefully kill those sons of biatches. Likewise, I'd like to see certain people in this country jailed for their roles in stirring up hatred overseas.

Jailed for what? Exercising their constitutionally guaranteed right to freedom of expression? That is still one of our rights, isn't it?

I must have missed the clause in the bill of rights where our rights are contingent upon the feelings of batshiat-insane people thousands of miles away.

I didn't say they could be jailed, just that I'd like to see them jailed. Incitement to riot, believe it or not, is illegal, but it would have to meet a high threshold in this case.

office_despot: ChuDogg: I see about 20 people, probably paid by the government to be there. Nice photo op though, I was really touched.

Meanwhile, violent riots are still going on in Cairo

Link

I'm watching that and it looks like a Sunday drum circle in Berkeley, CA. Has flags, drumming, a bonfire and a motorcycle. Definitely the place to be if one is young and doesn't have to be at work first thing in the morning. No violence or riot at all.

I'm watching intermittently and I've seen a few molotov cocktails go off at the cops, tear gas being deployed, fires everywhere, and several protestors surrounded by riot police being beaten by clubs and/or carried off. I'm not sure we're watching the same feed, but then again, I'm only watching intermittently. Alot of the scenes are just boring, like most on the ground footage. If you only clicked once I can see that being the case.

For those that don't know what we're talking about, here is the feed:

I'm glad to see people confirming what should already be known. Governments rarely represent their people---it's rarely that you'll find a majority of people who want to actively kill other people. Not to say there aren't plenty who would like to.

Err, you do realize that "Muslim" and "American" are not antonyms, right? There are American Muslims.

None of whom were involved in the embassy attacks so far as I've heard. I've met plenty of American Muslims, all of whom were very much anti-violence and proud to be American ...more so than most American liberals I've met.

2012-09-12 10:38:52 PM
To assume that all Libyans or even all Muslims are vicious killers because of the actions of a violent mob would be to paint them with the same brush which that mob used to paint Americans because of a ridiculous video.

GAT_00: That's more of an apology than I've ever seen for Christian Talibangelicals from the Christians who supposedly don't agree with them yet never speak against them.

Ok, let me be very, very clear about this. I am a Pacifist, and I am a Christian. I completely and unequivocally disavow any violence done in the name of Christianity. I do not wish to be identified with the KKK, Hutaree, violent anti-abortion activists or anyone else who would kill in the name of Christ. Similarly, I do not group Islam Judaism, or any of the non-Abrahamic faiths by their extremists.

Yup.

bdub77: shotglasss: bdub77: What you had was a protest of some crap instigated by Americans,

Wow, you are so far off base you'll never find your way back.

No American had anything to do with the embassy attacks, it was all done by muslims. If you want to give them cover by blaming someone else, blame Allah or Mohammed or whoever it was that tells them that this is acceptable behavior.

And you are an idiot if you think that posting blasphemous material on purpose to piss off another culture in an attempt to make them hostile is acceptable behavior. Maybe you should simply look up the definition of instigate and STFU.

Violence is certainly unacceptable, but protest is acceptable. Religion in and of itself is not a bad thing, like anything it can be taken too far.

Go wear a flower in your hair, dub. The film's creator is ISRAELI-American. Preach your BS to the families of the victims. Tough truth: Some people over there need to die.

I'd be doing the same thing if some crazy bastards in my country stormed the embassy of a known psychopathic nation. They know what we did to Iraq, and they didn't do a damn thing to us.

At any rate, the sentiment is appreciated. So often we see nothing but "Death to America" and parades when something like this happens. Nice to know that those people who aren't caught up in the moment are speaking out.

2012-09-12 10:43:07 PM

bdub77: What you had was a protest of some crap instigated by Americans, which was used by a small group of terrorists to make violence. I harbor no ill will toward the majority of Libyans and plenty of ill will toward the small number of people who were violent, just as I harbor ill will against the small number of people in my own country who stoke the flames of hatred.

I fully expect the US will provide intelligence of the whereabouts of the terrorists to the Libyans, who will hopefully kill those sons of biatches. Likewise, I'd like to see certain people in this country jailed for their roles in stirring up hatred overseas.

I'm sure it's been said, but digging into the movie turns up that the movie's origins are suspiciously fraudulent, enough so that it's not even clear it was instigated by americans.
