According to Carney, the president noted that the original Egyptian Embassy statement, which the Romney camp condemned, "came from folks on the ground who are potentially in danger" and was not meant to defend the attacks but rather to "cool the situation down" with infuriated protesters outside the embassy.

"My tendency is to cut folks a little bit of slack when they're in that circumstance rather than try to question their judgment from the comfort of a campaign office," the president said. "It appears that Governor Romney didn't have his facts right," he continued, according to the transcript.

This shouldn't be forgotten in all of this.

When, in this election cycle, have the Republicans cared about getting the facts right?

Not that there were many people who were undecided in this election cycle, but I would think this sort of crap would sway a few.

And yes, that was a rather Presidential 'You done been told' moment.

It wasn't like I was ever going to vote for Romney, but before his statement I didn't think he was despicable human being. Now I know better.

I haven't had a chance to comment in the other 18 threads on this issue, but damn Romney is an arsehole. I mean, Shrub wasn't the brightest bulb and I disagreed with a lot of what he did but I always thought he was an okay guy, just out of his depth. Romney seems to take pleasure in being a dick.

Will we go by one of these weeks without Romney making a fool of himself? He's approaching Biden frequency but with none of the charm.

I love this bit

"My tendency is to cut folks a little bit of slack when they're in that circumstance rather than try to question their judgment from the comfort of a campaign office," the president said.  "It appears that Governor Romney didn't have his facts right," he continued, according to the transcript.

We have serious problems to solve, and we need serious people to solve them. And whatever your particular problem is, I promise you, Mitt Romney is not the least bit interested in solving it. He is interested in two things, and two things only: making you afraid of it, and telling who is to blame for it! That, ladies and gentlemen, is how you win elections.

Romney is an arsehole.

That really does seem to be the size of it. He's the kind of arsehole who's always been so rich and influential that nobody's ever actually dared to say to him "Oh cut it out and stop being a shiatheel, Mitt". I doubt his blithering Stepford wife ever calls him on it either.

I guess that is the major difference. Biden tends to get in to trouble by blurting out the truth while Romney gets in trouble trying to sneak past a lie.

He's also weaselly and won't have fact checkers on hand to call him on his bullshiat. He's going to be fine, and may even win a debate or two.

Biden does this shiat way less often, and his are usually a mix of poorly thought-out jokes ("I'm Joe Bidenopolis") or poorly-timed truths (the big farkin' deal). He doesn't say egregiously wrong things all that often (not saying never, mind you).

Romney gaffes are a mix of total farking cluelessness, blatant and easily disproven lies, and baffling "why would you even say that, what kind of asshole are you"-type moments. And he seems to be pumping out a half dozen of them a week.

Yet at least one major "news" station will declare him the winner of the debates as long as he doesn't crap his pants on stage. Nearly half the voters in the country will then proceed to vote for him.
