Should I make a punny comment about how the GAP is breaking the law, or should I complain about seeing these former youth gone wild being ripped off by the GAP shows how old I'm getting?

If the GAP thinks they can get away with that they have another thing comin'.

If you think that let it go, you're mad.

Guessing some GAP designer will be heading out to the highway. How did they not know the electric eye was watching? Do they have a touch of evil in them or something?

Sentences you thought you'd never see. Rob Halford not pleased with the GAP.

Saw Priest on their Epitaph tour. They're getting up there in age, but man can they still rock (minus the guy who replaced K.K. Downing). He sucked and pretty much ruined Green Manalishi.

What happens if you put the shirt on backwards?

Nothing but British squeals from Priest.

You still look gay.

I bet Rob would be cool with it if the shirt were leather. He's hell bent for it. Until then FALL TO YOUR KNEES AND REPENT IF YOU PLEASE!!!

And the Velvet Underground is going bananas over licensing of their Andy Warhol cover.

I expected them to try and rip off the British Steel cover. At least that would have plausible deniability, I think.

But Screaming for Vengeance? What the hell were they thinking?

2012-09-12 07:03:18 PM
Was hoping twas Defenders of the Faith, but obviously had to be Screaming for Vengeance; the cover is simply too iconic.

Man he really ruined that song? That makes me sad; that song is pretty epic live. Last time I saw Priest was the Metal Masters tour when Dio was still alive. That was a great show, but the dumbass I went with made me miss Testament, and part of Motorhead.

Yep, it's a total rip-off.

GAP is about to find themselves between the hammer and the anvil.

No but shopping at the Gap does.

Halford's awesome... he said the GAP was 'very naughty' for doing this, but thinks it's cool that the logo has withstood the test of time. Sounds like he would have no problem with it had they just asked in advance.

What does Skid Row have to do with this? You old fogies and your burn out metal. Skid Row is real rock for youngsters like me.

I have an idea for a tshirt. I am going to put a black square in the middle of a white background, and have a rainbow go into it and be changed into a single beam of light. Think that would be a GAP original?

2012-09-12 11:07:12 PM
What The GAP did falls somewhere between the "Hammer and the Anvil."

Are you kidding? Trolling, perhaps? Yes, British Steel is amazing and iconic, but Screaming for Vengeance is equally so.

I think his point is the British Steel cover art isn't stylized to the same extent Screaming for Vengeance is, and therefore copying the cover you could deny knowledge.

I tried one on and it wrapped tight around me like a second flesh, hot skin.

Pretty obvious rip-off and like someone else said, likely all they had to do was ask. My favorite JP album is Sad Wings of Destiny. Full of awesome songs. My opinion.

wake me up when the artist who drew the original picture gets anything out of this and I'll care.

It's the original Back in Black cover before Atlantic insisted that the band name be outlined in grey.

"Having said that, pushing the legal side of it to one side, it's brilliant, isn't it? To think that something 30-odd years later is still striking enough to be a fashion moment."

At least Rob was fair-minded, unlike Gene $immons, who would be only thinking about damages.

I came in to say that British Steel was their most famous album cover, but your point is valid for sure.

I'm pretty sure he "got something out of it" back in the early 80's when he sold the rights to the band.

Sounds like Priest got a raw deal.

2012-09-13 08:26:43 AM
Steal private property from the Priest? Some heads are gonna roll for sure. Hope Priest goes at them with all guns blazing and they get run through the grinder.

does the asylum get permission to make garbage like Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies?

the art looks similar, sure but it isn't exactly the same.

no merit to a lawsuit. and if they GET a lawsuit, it might JUST be because the album was just re-released in a "commemorative" remastered package. Because come on, at this point everyone that ever wanted "Screaming" has a copy.

I was watching a recent concert of theirs on tv one night and the new guitarist had a 'solo' spotlight. it was full of suckage. seemed like priest were saying here he is...we're going to put him out front so you can see how awesome we think he is...it sucked.

i love their older albums. sinner is possibly my favorite priest song along with delivering the goods but they just aren't the same anymore.

gap, banana republic, and old navy are all one company. So you order some cheap t-shirts on line and sometimes they're Gap, sometimes they're not. It's just whatever and very convenient.

/no one goes to stores any more; too anachronistic.
