halloran: Whether you're republican or democrat the new American way is KILL KILL KILL. DEATH! MURDER! KILL YOUR BABIES and ASSASSINATE AMERICANS OVERSEAS. No trial, no jury. Just die.

Maybe there is something to this video game, movies, tv, books and music violence after all. A guy at work is all into death metal. WTF is that... seriously... you're into death music? How neat for you. And horror movies where they show cutting off peoples fingers and demented shiat. Farking weirdos the lot of you. America needs a good spanking. And I don't mean masterbate. They do enough of that already on Conan.

I don't know if I agree with everything you said, but I do notice the same trend in America, that some people seem so negative, destructive, hateful, and obsessed with killing and violence. I don't think that's a good trend. You see people who have a bad day and go berserk against innocent people all over the news. There is a sense of selfishness and social decay that is coinciding with economic decay.

I find it very sad that the only thing America can be good at now is killing, blowing stuff up, and spying on populations. If only it were the inventors, composers, humanitarians and commerce that we impressed the world with like we used to.

I would love to be known as the world's beacon for freedom again.

You think this is new?

The CIA assassinated WAY more people back in the "good ol' days." Unless we're talking pre-WWII, and even then it's questionable.

Why didn't the guards protecting our embassy melt their gun barrels firing on the attackers to repel them or throw grenades?

Our embassies need firepower to put up a sustained incredibly high volume wall of lead, or those new microwave weapons or sonic weapons to repel attackers. Not to do so invites more attacks through perceived weakness.

Ripping our flag down and hoisting theirs at our embassy? Killing the ambassador?

We should have an AC-130 on call to protect an embassy being overrun.

No, I can read and see what is said from various sources and when they all say the same thing, I feel reasonably certain it's closer to the truth than the talking points memo you get from Kos. farkwit.

Not new, but not right either. Slavery wasn't a new concept when it was practiced a few hundred years ago. . . It was as old of a concept as recorded history, but nonetheless was not moral or right, and so we abolished it, in a rare state of Social Sanity. I think we should learn from the past, not repeat it.

Maybe so, but the point is that, "beacon of world's freedom," thing was style, not substance. Also I'm fairly conservative (by the world definition, rather than the crazy American Media one) so I'm actually kinda okay with murdering the fark out of the occasional hard-to-get psychopathic murderer. Just at democrat levels and with competence and some semblance of honesty instead of CIA spook murders and Republican jihads.

It ain't nice, but some scumbags need a-killin' so's the flower-children have a place to dance without bein' shot by the aforementioned scumbags.

Quadruple Entendre: Yeah, Iran is probably closer to having a nuke than if there were a (R) occupying the white house, but who's to say?

Well, Obama greatly accelerated the development of Stuxnet because it was a non-violent and potentially extremely effective tool, so you've got it backwards. Considering the success of that operation, they are probably further away than they would be if McCain took office. Assuming of course McCain wouldn't start a war with Iran, which is not an assumption anyone should make.

I just watched 'said movie' and I can't believe that would get anyone riled up enough to plan and execute a strike that incidentally killed the US Ambassador. There has to be more to this than simple outrage about insult to the Prophet. Right?

I think the best way to honor Ambassador Stevens would be to not indiscriminately kill Libyans. If it's for our best and their best, drone away, but just massacring people for the sake of revenge is folly, and hardly what the late Ambassador would have wanted.

Again, look at Pakistan. Billions of dollars paid to the corrupt government there, for years, and now they're as far from allies as they could be, and are closer to enemies (nuclear-armed enemies). And you PAID them to be.

Uh, so how exactly is your Pakistan example illustrating your "going in guns blazing" theory?
You understand that different presidents can do things differently, don't you?

justtray: I'd have a lot more sympathy if there still wasn't 2,000 people outside our embassy in Cairo, amongst many locations.

You're aware that Cairo isn't in Libya, right?

Obama has no balls. Time for him to go.

What exactly would you propose he do?
Are you all-in on another expensive war, where we invade a country because one dude was killed by some anonymous douchebag who may not have even been Libyan, and galvanize a newly formed Muslim democracy against us? Yes, that's a much better solution than acting along with their new government and nurturing their good will towards the west who helped them overthrow an extremist dictator. For f**ks sake, is your foresight really THAT poor?

Apparently it's so much more important that we shoot first and ask questions later, lest everyone think that we're not tough warmongering badasses. Paying for health care and kickstarting new energy industries is for pussy socialists, but spending half a trillion on bombing people who looked at us crooked? That's money well spent, there.

because this could NEVER had been prevented with proper security at our locations (like Reagan had when our barracks were blown up)

Excuse me. I am an inactive Marine who was active when the attack in Beirut occurred and remained active after. I then jumped onto the parade when Clinton was in. So, I don't know anything about diplomatic protection. However, our very basic Marines know how to protect the compound and the rule is live ammunition matters.

Thank you. Shooting into that crowd is probably number 3 in the hierarchy of the worst possible responses to that crowd.

mark12A: Too little. Too late.

It is better to be feared than loved, and right now the Arab world does not fear us.

They should be made to fear us.

I'd say it's better to be loved. If you are loved, people will do anything for you. They will die for you. If you are feared people will not react to save you. If you are about to be killed, they will stand by and let it happen. And if you become too feared, that will become your downfall as well. Once people fear you more than they fear death, they will rise against you, with pitchfork and torch in hand.

ScottRiqui: The West Wing, though some of the tech is a little dated, is still one of the best written, best acted shows in modern TV history.

Yeah, if you need a character to deliver a hell of a speech/rant/whatever, Aaron Sorkin is your writer - "A Few Good Men", "The West Wing", "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip", "The Social Network", "The Newsroom", and "The American President" are all good examples.

Well, I'm going beg to differ.

It doesn't matter which show, all the characters speak in exactly the same voice. The same choppy, jargon-laden patter. You could transplant any one from any Sorkin show into another one, in any role, and you'd never notice a difference. If you're going to have multiple characters in a show, is it too much to ask that they each have, oh I don't know, some distinguishing characteristics? Sure, they have different backstories and serve the plot differently, but they all speak and behave exactly alike.

It's maddening.

Please to be showing:

1) The word "sorry", "regrets", "apology" or any of their variants in the Embassy's statement.

2) Any evidence you have that the statement was cleared by the White House, or that it had any foreknowledge of its content.

3) Any indication that there's anything wrong with the content, which as far as I can tell is "It's not nice to mock religion".

Fark letting the libyans do the strike?!?!?!? Have we learned nothing from our time in this region? farking hell! A Libyan that was supposed to be protecting the consulate was seen taking pictures before the attack... Bring the drones and ships, take their information, but do the strike without warning, from American platforms!

2012-09-13 02:49:47 PM
The proposal for use of drones is expected to be approved shortly by the Pentagon and the White House, CNN's Pentagon Correspondent Barbara Starr reported. The official said the plan is for U.S. surveillance drones to gather the intelligence and then hand it off to the Libyans to strike the targets.

... with results similar to asking the Pakistani government to help find Bin Laden.

The fighting in Libya is spreading into central Africa and otherwise peaceful nations are now being destroyed.

Because if central Africa was ever known for anything, it was peace.

hey, your getting destruction in my chaos, mayhem, and misery!

if it weren't for the 27 year Angola civil war that just ended a few years ago, the two wars in the Congo that have killed over 10 million people in the last two decades, the Rwandan genocide, and the civil war in Chad (2005-2010) central africa would be upgraded to *as peaceful as a fireworks factory fire*.
