Obama'd probably pilot the damn things himself if they'd let him.

And there you have it. They tell Obama it's not possible, and he just goes along like a sheep. Bush would have strapped a drone to each foot and skied on over. There wouldn't be any of this pansy "no one will let him" stuff.

If the Libyan government is allowed to do the arrests/whatever of the assholes involved, it's very good for everyone politically. They capture them, show that they aren't involved, hand them off, we make a good diplomatic show, and everyone is happier except the Jihadists, and it's kind of their job to be assholes anyway so who cares.

How can you send drone on women or children?

Easy! Ya just don't lead 'em so much! Ain't war hell?

Why not? Their justice method is much harsher, and it lets us wash our hands of the railroaded executions.

We let the Iraqis try Saddam, and that was under the Neocons' rule.

I agree I think people are jumping to conclusions. I don't think it would help to stabilize things with a US air strike in Libya (at least without the full support of the Libyan government). It's a good chance that this is recon mission and hand over to the authorities. I have heard this attack isn't actually very supported in Libya so it would be a win/win for the Libyan authorities to do the "bringing to justice".

The proposal for use of drones is expected to be approved shortly by the Pentagon and the White House, CNN's Pentagon Correspondent Barbara Starr reported. The official said the plan is for U.S. surveillance drones to gather the intelligence and then hand it off to the Libyans to strike the targets.

Whatever heavyhanded, illegal tactics the USA uses to find and kill (or imprison without charge) all those involved will only serve to inflame anti-U.S. sentiment around the world.

Libyans and Egyptians will never ever ever trust Americans. Ever. Americans might forget (or not know) that the US fully and vigorously supported both dictators (Mubarak and Gaddhafi) for decades before they were ousted. The people in those two countries still blame the US because they have memories.

Not only was the quote not intended to be a history lesson, but the character himself was spouting hyperbole in a fit of (somewhat justified) rage to his Chief of Staff, who was talking him down from his pomposity.

Well, my point is rather that I expect it's going to suck no matter what faction you are. American authorities can't even see fit to distinguish between different factions of domestic radicals who literally wear their associations on their sleeves and have never harmed a solitary person. What makes you think they're going to bother trying to slice up the Libyans into tiny groups? I expect the coming drone strikes to mostly strike mainly relevant targets, kinda.

Corvus: But that's not true. Many groups in Libya are denounce these attacks on of the embassy. You are painting them all with a too wide of a brush. The Ambassador was very well like and respected by those in the democracy movement there.

I wholeheartedly agree. Most Libyans are probably shocked and disgusted at what befell the ambassador and those other 3 people.

But that doesn't mean they trust you whatsoever. By "you" I mean the US government.

It'll become clearer as the US sends troops in contrary to the wishes of the Libyan government, which will just make more and more Libyans mad.

I'm telling you, the best way would be to let the Libyans investigate and capture those involved.

Yeah, if you need a character to deliver a hell of a speech/rant/whatever, Aaron Sorkin is your writer - "A Few Good Men", "The West Wing", "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip", "The Social Network", "The Newsroom", and "The American President" are all good examples.
