Summary so far: The lamest iPhone ever. Exact same thing with a slightly bigger screen.

2012-09-12 01:19:24 PM
4" screen. That violates Samsung's patent of a screen size slightly larger than the iPhone.

Oh wow its thinner and lighter and has a bigger screen. This demands hours of presentation and days of debate.

Will it open my garage door, yet?

Near field communication? 3D camera? Waterproof? Bigger screens are available with the Galaxy Note Phablet and just about anything else. Can anybody say something about this toy to make me care?

2012-09-12 01:26:17 PM
This coming out should hopefully push down the price on new iPhone 4s and 4Ss.

2012-09-12 01:27:45 PM
Looks just like the last 4.

Modern day "Keeping up with the Jones'?"

No shiat, Sherlock. It's an iPhone.

It's just an evolution of the same design. The new features and improvements, aside from the 4" screen are
inside.

OH.MY.GOD.

A slightly bigger rectangle with rounded edges! Steve Jobs is communicating though the grave to let us know that he still knows what we as brain dead consumers want!

And yet, somehow, I doubt ANY features Apple added would make you care.

2012-09-12 01:32:02 PM
If I had one, people would call me on it. No thanks. I don't need that aggravation.

2012-09-12 01:34:18 PM
So, what, exactly, does an iPhone 5 do that should make me want to toss my Razr Maxx in the trash and go stand in line to buy one?

Because it looks an awful lot like an iPhone 4S with a bigger screen and 4G LTE to me. Hopefully the antenna works this time.

Making it thin and light is solving a problem no one really had with the previous version. And adding in features like "panoramic photos" is nice, but there was already an app (actually several) for that.

Whatever revolutionary features this thing has, Apple didn't lead with them.

Bought the $0.99 Angry Birds? Then you must get a $2000 phone to play it on!

So far, seems to be announcing stuff that most Android phones have been doing for nigh on 2 years. Meh....but the iZombies will love it.

There's not a single "revolutionary" thing - and that isn't already available on any flagship Android phone. I just don't understand. This seems to be less of a step than the 4S was.

My god, I'm on the edge of my seat for the next incremental release of features that could have been implemented 3 models ago.

CANNOT WAIT.

84 million iPads sold to date? Wow! That totally crushes, by nearly three-fold if you go by the highest estimate (Jack Tramiel′s own numbers of ~30 million) and more like 6¾× the more reliable numbers (~12½ million), the record that the Commodore 64 had of being the #1 selling model of personal computer of all time until the iPad!

(If you count the iPad as a personal computer, and I see no reason why not.)

They just can't use micro usb like the rest of the world? No sir! They're visionaries!

Another proprietary connector? Fark you apple. This coming from someone with an ipad macbook and iphone. Using farking microusb so i don't have to keep track of a dozen chargers.

This place has been more fun than MacRumors circa 2009. PEOPLE SO ANGRY FOR NO REAL REASON!

2012-09-12 01:43:40 PM
It's a hate for this "culture" that has sprung up around this company. I can't go a day in my field (IT) without someone glossing about how we should just get all Mac stuff and iPhone stuff because they all "just work", and are so much more productive, and on and on.

From what I can tell, it's a fine phone. For people that own a Mac, it might even make it the right phone for some. But this is not some "game-changer" that the indoctrinated believe that it is.

2012-09-12 01:43:55 PM
At least the new connector is reversible.

Is this an actual Apple event, or is this an attempt to satirize the presentation of common applications now expected on smartphones as special, unique features?

Okay, this made me laugh.

Yeah, it's weird the way users want something that works and this annoys IT guys.

2012-09-12 01:46:31 PM
I think for the first time, the iPhone is catching up to the competition instead of leading it. If this came out last year instead of the 4S, they'd still be ahead of the curve, but no longer. ground breaking panorama mode? I've had that since May

2012-09-12 01:46:58 PM
I like the new iCall feature, it allows for an instant voice connection between two parties. All you have to do is enter the other party's 10 digit code!

Yea the funny thing is people in the audience applauding newer features which already exist on other phones.

I personally have the iphone 4 and won't upgrade until this thing breaks and is unusable. It does all I need and more so the new phone or any new features don't seem all that much.

Though hardware wise they are a big leap of sorts.

If it all just worked, I'd love it. But they don't. I have to answer more calls from departments that use Macs than PCs. Applications don't work, plenty of printing issues, AD connectivity is a trainwreck, and on and on.

The whole thing has just completely jaded me I'm sure.

NutznGum: I like the new iCall feature, it allows for an instant voice connection between two parties. All you have to do is enter the other party's 10 digit code!

It also comes with the new iOn feature, where you touch a button and the screen springs magically to life!

2012-09-12 01:50:15 PM
Still no scrollable dock or widgets. Apple already lost me for a second iJesusPhone when upgrade time comes next year with all their douchey moves as of late. Also, my 4 feels so gimped and with all the updates to ios, my apps keep crashing and my battery drains quicker. I also had to shut off most of the iOS features because the damn phone was eating data left, right, and centre when I didn't even have iCloud backup turned on. Wifi synch is a jOke too. The phone doesn't "just work," it does what it wants to do whether you want to do it or not.

I liked it when I first got it, but since the 4s came out, it sucks and apple made it suck on purpose because they want me to keep buying new shinys from them every 6 months.

2012-09-12 01:50:15 PM
So the new Apple dock connector is "Lightning". Which follows Thunderbolt. Will the next one be called Galileo Figaro Magnifico-ooo-ooo-ooo?

Basically, everyone in this thread trashing apple is a farking nut job for thinking that your opinion matters.

Apple makes some of the most succesful technology products ever, and has more cash than practically any other company in the world. They might not have the biggest market share, but their share of the profits makes all the other players look like little leaguers.

So... yeah, keep talking shiat. I'm just glad I own the stock.

On another note: why do these tech demos always involve old guys with lots of money, trying to pretend like they're hip enough to tweet, hang out with their young friends or join people for sushi?

secularsage: So, what, exactly, does an iPhone 5 do that should make me want to toss my Razr Maxx in the trash and go stand in line to buy one?

Nothing. It's designed to capitalize on the opportunity to resell the device to everyone who bought the Iphone 4 when it came out. And to a lesser extent minimize the chance that they switch to Android. All of their 2 year contracts are coming up so they are in line for a phone replacement. What phone do you think they are going to get with the Iphone 5 sitting there brand spanking new?
