They got to .500?

Hooray for mediocrity?

Are we going to see these headlines daily as teams jockey for the wild card spot? Because that would be cool.

Just like the Phillies, you say?

4 games out of the NL wild card lead, and are at .500 right now.

Are we gonna get an article tomorrow about how the D-backs are only 5 games back in the wild card race?

Wild card races are a huge bright spot in baseball.

Now speed the games up to stay closer to 2.5-3 hours.

Subby: "4 games out of the NL Wild Card"

That's why no one is paying attention. Even with 2 wild card spots, they are still out of it.

The Onion is prophetic: Are we gonna get an article tomorrow about how the D-backs are only 5 games back in the wild card race?

that would be nice, because as of today the Snakes are 10 back.

and godammit ESPN, I hate you. "It is time to take the Phillies seriously" (buster olney). uhh.....i kno wthey are on an 8-2 tear but they are 17 back of the Nats and here are the WC breakdowns:

Philly = 71

STL 75
Pitts 72
LA 74
Mil 71
Ariz 70

they are at the ass end of the WC standings for chrissakes!

I like how people include the Cowboys and Rangers in ESPN's "East Coast" Zone, then say that the Brewers are just a bit outside of that zone.

2012-09-12 01:44:15 PM

Slow To Return: 75-70 = 10?

the numbers i posted exclude the division leaders, because it is, you know, extremely unlikely that the Phillies will win either the NL Central or West. This is the wild card after all.

Snakes are 10 back of the division leading Giants (snkaes are 70-72, Giants 80-62) but in terms of win totals, we're only one back of the Phillies.

just shocked that ESPN is pimping a large East Coast market when they are looking up at STL, Pittsburgh (whom I would characterize as certainly not East Coast but also not Midwest, but however you call it, no way in hell a major TV market) and LA and tied with MIL.

Shocked.

The poster you quoted stated that the D-Backs were 5 games out of the WC, which they are.

But I don't follow the NL much. How are the Dodgers not in first place? Didn't they spend like $500 million at the trade deadline?

sorry, yeah, i kinda cross mojinized the WC standings with how far we are back of the Giants.

to your question though, i've kinda given up on the snakes but from what i've read of the West, everybody expected the Giants to fold after losing Cabrera and it just hasn't happened. And, the Padres have been landing body shots on Los Doyers and the Snakes, to where neither team can gain ground on the Giants. and then like i said the Snakes go on a road trip to shiatass Houston and get swept or some shiat.

so frustrating.

Out of curiousity, what were St. Louis' chances this time last year?

2012-09-12 02:11:24 PM
The Tigers are five games out of the wild card, but you don't see me making headlines about it. At this point, all 5 games out means is that they'd better win their division.

6.2%

Boston's was 97.1% while the Braves were at 94.4%

It's kind of funny because the Phillies said "fark it" a while ago and traded away four guys, and now they're winning. They're not gonna make it but it's more entertaining than watching them go 70-92.

There is only supposed to be 12 seconds between pitches and the batters are only allowed to step out after a foul ball. These rules are rarely, if ever, enforced.

CoolStandings.com gives the Crew a 4% chance, up from 1% 3 days ago. As repeated from the Phillies thread:

We suck bigtime against the NL west (28-34 in our own division, including 9-19 since the ASB), and we're 5-7 since the big trade with the BoSox. Our offense isn't doing jack shiat and the Giants somehow got better after Cabrera went out. Plus the regular injury woes, but every team has those.

It's not just that they are .500 and 4 games out, it's the fact that they were left for DEAD and have surged back into the race going 17-5. They're one of the hottest teams in baseball. That's kind of newsworthy.

Because being the only guy in shouting distance of the triple crown in the NL (7th in batting, 1st in homers, 2nd in RBI) means he's totally fallen off the cliff, right? You're a moron.

Just heard that the Crew is 15-5 since cutting Randy Wolf. I assume that is coincidence since he neither bats regularly, nor pitches from the bullpen, but who cares? WE GOING TO WIN IT ALL!!!!

Could you point out the part where I said he was doing badly this year? I'd love to see that, as it wasn't even implied by my comment. It's the team that is doing worse this year. You can understand the difference? Maybe if he went back on the juice, he could put up numbers like Bonds.

The key words are "stay", with the implication of the low end--nearer 2.5 hours. Many go over and it's brutal to watch.

My kids have played baseball for 9 years now, both on the high-school team, and they can't stand watching it on TV. If baseball wants to increase the fervor of young fans the games need to speed it up.

He didn't want to "give up" the team, but technically she was the owner during the badness.
