We're running low on clown shoes at this point.

Mitt Romney has become a fatally wounded elephant. It is clear that he will not survive, but the thrashing about of his death throes still have the potential to inflict incalculable damage.

"While the United States rejects efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others, we must all unequivocally oppose the kind of senseless violence that took the lives of these public servants," Obama said.

Why does the President and his minions undermine US security and interest by trying to make us look like rational, level-headed people?

Hopefully, it's mostly self-inflicted harm. I REALLY hope he campaigns with some people running for Senate or the House. He can drag some of those troglodytes down with him.

To me, criticizing embassy workers for trying to placate a protesting mob outside their front-door, is a mistake.

Mitt Romney had a stroke at some point between 10:30 and 11:30 last night. It is the only reasonable explanation for his actions over the past 12 hours.

Between this and the "I don't care what you tell your daughter" thing, I'm now convinced that this is some Andy Kaufman-esque troll job that Romney has been designing for the past 6 years. The explanation that he is bad at running for President is no longer a valid explanation.

Well, I for one am glad to know that an attack on two of our embassies that resulted in four deaths garners a smirk from a candidate for President.

Way to hand the US Diplomatic Corps an triple-decker shiat sandwich, and reveal your utter apathy, and lack of willingness to comprehend a situation before speaking.

In once sentence, Mitt has doomed his candidacy even further.

I'll give him an A+ for efficiency on that, tho. If all those Bain years taught him anything, he's an expert at tearing things apart and disposing of the remnants. He's gotten so good at it he's even doing it to himself.

Think of it this way... The United States Foreign Service leads with a single voice directed from Foggy Bottom and, by extension, the White House.

I would have given them weapons-free at the outset of the mob, but the story would have been "US opens fire on protestors... (trying to scale the embassy walls See: page A-27)"

They cannot do that (release their statement) to placate a mob because they are the official voice of the US government. A good example is how Joe Wilson handled himself in Iraq before the invasion in 1988-9. Sure, he shot from the hip, but he handled it well.

I don't want to condemn them because they knew their lives were on the line, but you just can't go along with it because it plays right into what the mob wants. Sympathy. The response from Foggy Bottom was correct.

I will never condemn someone for trying to save their own lives, but from a policy standpoint, they have to realize that their job has inherent ricks specifically because of who/what they represent. I honor those who lost their lives and wish closure and comfort for their families. It's a damn hard/dangerous job and they get very little fanfare. The Foreign Service Officer is too little respected in our country.

I know why we (The Govt.) are countermanding their statement, but I understand why they (the embassy) did it. It just can't stand as policy.

He's an arrogant, elitist prick. He probably thinks anyone not like him is cannon fodder or "collateral damage", so why should he care? Now, if Rupert Murdoch was one of the people killed, oh there would be tears a-plenty from the Mittbot. Well, fake tears maybe, so as not to rust his internal components.

Oh come on. Those were just cogs in the machine. You don't expect Romney to identify with them as people do you? I mean, that would be like him seeing soldiers as more than assets to be deployed. You can't expect that sort of empathy from the future Commander in Chief...

I was thinking about that. He could ruin the Bruins better than Jacobs does. Yeah, I know they won the cop, but he's still an asshole owner.

Mittens just bought a place out in Cali. that he's turning into a compound. I think he realizes New England hates his guts. He can play in the west coast market. I'm sure he can find something and ruin it.

He can take the San Francisco Giants or the San Diego Chargers.

The Dodgers have new ownership already, with people that have more money than even Mittens.

I think we're going to be seeing a hard right turn in their rhetoric. They know the Presidency is out of reach, but the Senate and Representative seats are still in play, so they're going to gin up support for those.

He is reviled in Maine, and Massachusetts feels pretty much the same. I'm sure he can fly into the Cape and be free from having to see the locals too often, but even there, he's not real popular, save as a sort of special interest story to talk smack about after he leaves.

That smirk is the most devastating thing that has happened to anyone so far in this whole campaign season, with the possible exception of Perry's "oops" moment. If this had happened before the conventions, there would be near universal calls from the Republicans for Romney to drop out and be replaced.

You're probably right, but it would seem that at least some Republicans are starting to become dimly aware that this asshole is permanently wrecking their brand. Even then, the only reason they would have called for him to get out is that they hate him anyways.

I think they all know it.. I don't think it matters. This is their guy and they're going to stick with him no matter what. I don't think any of the party leaders expect Romney to win. The voters might have the impression that he has a chance and they will sugar coat anything he says. Just like Obama could hand the GOP base a bar of gold each and they wouldn't vote for him, Romney could hand them a bowl of shiat each and they would sing his praises.

Either way the real race is going to be in 2016 and the real candidates who don't want their reputation destroyed are keeping very far away from Mitt. Guys like Scott Brown, who declined an offer to have a big part in the RNC, are distancing themselves from the current GOP.
