He needs to walk up to the podium at the next NFLPA meeting and apologize to every other running back in the league.

I haven't seen a rational explanation for Cop Speed's regression. Is it blocking, injury, or apathy?

When he first came back after the hold out, I thought it was lack of practice. After the first 5 terrible games, I told myself it was the new coach with a different blocking scheme. Now I think he sees himself having a giant run every time so he waits too long behind the line. Everyone has studied his moves. They know about the stutter step and cut back. At this point he needs to focus on getting consistent yardage even if it's 3 yards at a time. A running back that can't convert on 3rd and short is useless.

FTA: As the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot pointed out earlier this week, Weeden's passer rating (5.1) looked a lot like his career ERA in five minor league seasons (5.02). This isn't a compliment to his proficiency in either sport.

Sick burn.

I'm totally serious that when watching last Sunday's game, during some of CJ's carries, various Pavement songs started playing in my head.

If the 90's band that made apathy cool is the soundtrack I come up with to your play, then I think it's apathy. Or, I'm retarded.

He uses his pay checks to buy gold bullion, which he carries with him on each down, for good luck.

Tennessee doesn't have a lot of other players worth a damn. Barry Sanders would struggle to rush for 20 yards on that team.

That's what you get for disrespecting the TD Pack Band, Chris!

Last year Chris Johnson had a game with 12 carries for 13 yards. The next two games, he rushed for 190 and 153 yards.

After that he was crap again for the rest of the season.

That's one of the funniest sports-related comments I've read in a long time. Best of luck with that, Cleveland.

Ah well, serves them right. That's what they get for giving quarterback money to a running back in a passing league.

I busted a gut when I saw him in the top ten rank for fantasy football. I can't believe people would waste that pick.

Absolutely, on some carries Barry might not even get 10.

True. At 44 years of age he might struggle to rush for 20 yards a game.

Ok, as a Titans fan, and more importantly, someone who watched the game vs the Pats, let me chime in. CJ did indeed look pathetic- he broke no tackles, hesitated too much, couldn't get anywhere. But the offensive line was pathetic. It was worse than CJ was - every time CJ got the ball, he had multiple patriots behind the line of scrimmage waiting for him. He was swarmed under the second he got the ball nearly every time because the O-Line was horrendous. Awful, just awful.

So yes, CJ sucked, but save plenty of scorn for his O-Line, who weren't so mucn blockades as turnstyles.

Ditto. It was also a league that rewarded bonus points for long runs and receptions for TDs, so I cruised.

I also had him the year after that, and while he wasn't nearly as productive, he was good enough to get me the repeat.

Announcer: "2nd & 8 at the 45. Up the middle for 2 yards."
Band: "ROCKY TOP TIME"

Enjoy your 6 wins. You're a factor in college football....REALLY!

I was at a bar in Nashville and a group from Knoxville made the band play Rocky Top 3 times in a row. Asked for a fourth. Then they wanted 'Sweet Home Alabama'.
I paid them $100 to play 'Blue Moon of Kentucky'.

heh!

although it is sort of true. i don't know how many times the lions ran the, "3rd and short, draw play to sanders, loss of 1 yard" play, but it was a lot...

in his heydey detroit did not have a particularly potent offensive line and so you actually saw him dancing around for a loss on a lot of plays. it was just through sheer awesomeness that he would still somehow manage to bust a few of those out to a good 30 or 50 yarder... a couple times a game... to make up for all the other ones, and still make 100 a game and a few tds look easy..

I know the Sander's mythology is about his lousy line but Sanders and Smith both had backups you and I barely recall. Sanders backups always ran the short yardage gigs because Sanders was waltzing looking for the homerun instead of getting 1 or 2 yards. Sanders' backups STILL had a higher ypc than Smith's did. RB's make the line not the other way about. Barry was great in the box score, not so good on a down in and down out basis where he left his team in a lot of lousy down and distance settings waiting for that one big run he'd get every game.

Is it possible that he may end up being the "best" one-year wonder of all time?

I mean, not including guys whose careers ended due to injury, but guys who had a spectacular year and then just fizzled out, who clearly have the athletic ability to be better than their poor seasns.
