That guy deserves a "Hero" tag.

And kiss my ass Dallas fans, they are not America's team!

Its pretty funny cause the "Flag ship cowboys station" in dallas 105.3 is generally hated by the populace and is a distant second to 1310 the ticket.

At least thats how I felt when I lived up there. Newy scruggs is the only good host 105.3 has. The rest of them are terrible.

As a Redskins fan, that was hilarious, but I thought Jerrah took it in stride pretty well (and even offered a decent comeback). Too bad he didn't bother asking Jerrah if he'd found his glory hole.

And after reading the article, its nice to see they are continuing their level of poor station planning and incompetence.Hiring a rival host and pissing off the the owner? Im not going to say it isnt funny but definitely not smart. The only reason that station is still on is because they have the rights to broadcast the games. Im pretty sure even the players don't like the station.

FTAShariff grew up on the Eastern Shore, went to American, interned for George Michael

You younger folks might not know but before cable and ESPN and the internet and instant access to lots and lots of current and past sports highlights, George Michael, and his Sports Machine was the greatest place to watch sports highlights of all time. Sunday night Sports Machine getting into football highlights was the second greatest way to watch football highlights. The first greatest? That would be on Monday Night Football halftime when that theme would start and you'd hear that voice and the hair on your arms rose and there would be 6-8 minutes of the awesomeness of Sunday's games. This would be MNF well before that jagoff Berman tried to fill the 'fastest two minutes' with 30 seconds of highlights and 90 seconds of him trying to cram his forced and ridiculous nicknames in and saying "he could go alllll the waaaayyyyy".

Get off my lawn and go back to your Astro-turf. I has a morose now.

Yeah the Cowboys published a book in 2011 calling themselves Americas Team

They have it copyrighted/trademarked/whatever (sorry my law GED is not up to date). The Packers tried to call themselves 'America's Team' after they got a bunch of bandwagon jumpers in the mid-1990s and some market research firm confirmed they were the most popular team in America; the Cowboys kindly reminded them not to use that title.

I think playing "Hail to the Redskins" to the Cowboys owner is actually sort of appropriate, considering the story of how the Cowboys were founded.

You are correct. I also miss the old NFL today with Brent, Irv, etc. Best football telecast at the time of great football in the NFC.

I remember reading an article in the '70s that stated that Clint Murchison, through a third party had purchased the rights to "Hail To The Redskins", and that every time the Redskins played it, they had to pay royalties to the Cowboys. Dunno if that's still the case, though.

Not exactly.

From the wiki:
"When the NFL began considering expansion to Texas, Marshall strongly opposed the move, as he had enjoyed a monopoly in the South for three decades (apart from the one-year appearance of the Dallas Texans in 1952). Potential owner Clint Murchison, who was trying to bring the NFL to Dallas, bought the rights to "Hail to the Redskins" from a disgruntled Breeskin and threatened to prevent Marshall from playing it at games. Marshall agreed to back Murchison's bid, Murchison gave him back the rights to the song, and the Dallas Cowboys were born."

I think George Preston Marshall (Redskins owner at the time) and Barnee Breeskin (author of HTTR) were having a licensing dispute at the time and the Murchison was trying to establish an NFL franchise at the time. During that day expansion required a unanimous vote and the Redskins owned the entire south. Dallas had the support of all the other owners but Marshall wasn't ready to give in.

So Murchison cut a deal with Breeskin to buy the rights to HTTR and it became the negotiation point for winning that last vote. I don't believe the Cowboys still own it though.

It easy to forget but there was a time when the as far south as the Florida Panhandle and as far West as Texas was considered "Redskins Territory" because, despite being THE most football-crazy states in the Union there was no NFL presence there. Hell until the Panthers came into existance there were still radio stations in both Carolinas that were part of the "Washington Redskins Radio Network"

Frickin espn is beating them now? Wow. I always just considered them both complete failures compared to the ticket. Hell I live in austin now and im still listening to the ticket via I heart.

So, one win & Shan is already breaking out the anointing oil? There's a reason why he's on 105.3 as opposed to 1310. You might want to tap the brakes, there. Just a little bit.

Someone also might want to remind him (and all Redskin fans, for that matter) that one game does not a season make, everyone knows that NO doesn't play defense (at least not last season & they're looking pretty much the same this year) & the league has a way of catching up with rookie QBs. I know you're excited. RG III is a very exciting player, but he hasn't really done anything yet (aside from beating a bad defense).

This made me feel really old. I used to beg my paremts every monday to let me stay up late enough to watch the highlights during halftime. It was the best. I also used to love pouring over every inch of the box scores page in the newspaper 100 times.

In the last 2 days I've watched full replays of 2 games and the extended highlights and analysis of all the games about 100 times. I am completely saturated with football and love it.

Thanks Treygreen13 and balki1867 for the correction. I think I read that story in a World Book encyclopedia, when I was in the second grade, so the details were fuzzy. Don't tell my brother, he's a Skins fan and I love to tease him with this.

First meeting October 9, 1960
First result Washington Redskins 26, Dallas Cowboys 14

Latest meeting November 20, 2011
Latest result Dallas Cowboys 27, Washington Redskins 24 (OT)
Next meeting
Rivalry status 104 meetings[1]
Largest victory Dallas Cowboys 38, Washington Redskins 3 (1993)
Current streak Dallas Cowboys with three wins (2010, 2011)
All-time series Dallas Cowboys lead 62-40-2[1]

Post season history
Last meeting January 23, 1983
Last result Washington Redskins 31, Dallas Cowboys 17
All-time postseason series Washington Redskins lead 2-0[1]

also, everyone knows the Skins haven't really proven anything after one game. But-for that one game they didn't stink up the place as most folks had expected they would do(6-8 point underdogs).
Trust me, us Skins fans know full well what will most likely happen over the course of the year.:)
