Mid_mo_mad_man: heinekenftw: Which god should Obama mention? The one that allowed the attack to occur or the one that inspired the attack?

Um same god of Abraham

No no, unless you invoke God in English, he's a totally different God!

/God only accepts prayers from white Americans in English
//If you're Mormon, anyway.

The thing is: IF Obama had mentioned God, then folks would be complaining about how classy GW was for NOT using is faith in a public fashion. It's not real outrage, it's just an excuse, and no matter what he does, there is a criticism. Because it's not about what he's doing, it's about the mere fact that he ran, and won. It doesn't matter what he does, he's always wrong, and that is part of the issue.

There ARE legitimate criticisms on the President's performance and policy. The problem is that they get lost in the constant weeping and wailing, and thus these legitimate criticisms are drowned out and become part of the background noise. Which is sad, because I think that there are issues that we can bring to the table, and should, but in the sea of DERP these are just so much dross...

Uchiha_Cycliste: themindiswatching: It has to be exhausting to be so angry all the time.

I remember us all saying back in 2008 that there was no way they could keep it up for Obama's full term, but I'll be damned if they didn't pull it off. They have been at max derp and hate for 4 years now. fortunately that rage must certainly hastened the deaths of some of the right wing's old person base. So I guess some good came out of it. Better yet the more folks that die, the less they will win, so the more the anger, so the more will die! win/win/win.

Sent my grandfather to the nursing home for a few months.

It used to be funny to watch him froth up into a rage about "libs" and that "N%$$er who thinks he's President" but now we're on doctor's orders to block Fox news and not discuss politics.

"Is there anything religion can do to help me find my friend?"
"Well, we could join together in prayer."
"Uh huh, but is there anything useful we can do?"
"No."

I don't understand the anger.

Take this comment FTFA: I will never apologize for my anger at obama. He is destroying the country I love and does not deserve an apology. His simple act of breathing air makes me angry. Many of us feel that way. And if you support him, I feel pity for you. What's the source of that? Are they just being manipulated by the right wingnut outrage machine...or, did the president kick their puppy and wipe his ass on their curtains?

The only people the GOP has left is the "I'm angrier than you" set and the "thinly veiled racist" - any semblance of reason or sanity in the party is quickly shouted down and dismissed.

See what happened, Obama? You didn't beg God for protection and our Libyan embassy was attacked.

God would surely have prevented that if you had asked Him. Sure, He let 9/11 happen, but He was on vacation that week. Oopsie.

That's pretty sad. Can I ask a question, while your Grandfather is spewing hit vitriol does he simultaneously consider himself a good Christian? Mine did... went to Mass every day with grandma in fact. I never understood how he could be so hateful and listen to the Gospel being read everyday to him, it's like maybe he thought he was exempt from Jesus' instructions.

Friggin please. If there really was a god, would it send its only begotten spawn emissary to some obscure group of goat-herders ONLY? Not to the Americas, Europe, Africa, or Australia, but just to one of the Middle Eastern warmongering tribes? If there really was a god, the new testament would have been unnecessary, because god would have gotten it right the first time. Then again, the old testament would have been unnecessary as well, because a real god would have been more responsible than to let a serpent into the nursery. Can any of you fundies explain how all other gods are the result of ignorant peoples' needing explanations for things they couldn't understand, and/ or something to believe in, but yours is not?

From the derp-tastic comments:

Just remember, ZZZ, this comment WILL be replayed during YOUR judgement day in FRONT of the very God you mock. What you do NOT understand is that GOD gave us FREE choice, and on that day, those terrorists made a choice. We do not always know why certain things like this are allowed to happen, but with this sinful move by the terrorists, they all met the one and true God of Abraham that day! As a Christian, i do NOT fear death!

So she shouldn't be outraged at all that 3k people died as if they were True Christians they shouldn't fear death. In fact it brought them closer to Jebus. In a way those terrorists were doing God's work. Sort of like administrators of Penn State football.

And isn't Allah a god of Abraham as well? I thought he was the same one actually. Oh wait Allah is in that foreign language to the area and not God's real one English.

And really what's God's punishment for someone not believing in him?

How dare you blaspheme against the Almighty!

Have you forgotten the words of His prophets, Falwell and Robertson? God lifted His divine veil of protection because of atheists, the ACLU, homos, liberals, and an oppressive twenty percent tax on long-term capital gains and qualified dividends.

You see, it's like this. On the morning of Obama's Inauguration Day, the country was in perfect condition in every way. The economy was great. We were at peace with and loved by all countries. Democrats and Republicans lived in harmony. Unicorns roamed our city streets and farted rainbows.

Then Obama was inaugurated, and when Republicans awoke the next day the entire country had been ruined for everyone.

Authors fails at basic reading comprehension.

FTFA:
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this tenth day of September, in the year of our Lord two thousand twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America the year two hundred and thirty-seventh.

BARACK OBAMA

If a ship manifest's closing statement's standard form containing "In the year of our Lord", signed by Thomas Jefferson is "proof" that he was a Christian, then Obama that means he mentioned God all the more. Otherwise, Jefferson wasn't Christian enough.

Republican (conservative) logic:

we should fear and hate Muslims because of their religion. Although they believe Jesus was a prophet, they also believe that another prophet came after him and added to the old testament bible.

we should also embrace Mormons as Christians, despite the fact that they believe basically the same thing as the Muslims... that Jesus was a prophet but other prophets came after him (Moroni) and they added their own addendum to the bible.

Also, the Jews are our most important allies in the whole world. They don't believe in Jesus and were, in fact, at least partially responsible for his death... they need money and weapons (lots of money and weapons) to fight off those ignorant savages, the Muslims.

Yeah, he used to be on several church committees.

Gramps has always been a raging racist and I think it stems from some kind of misplaced elitism. For example, he used to pick fights with my other grandfather - an immigrant who worked on an oil barge - by saying stuff to my brother and I like, "See kids, this is why you should go to college. So you don't end up an idiot who can't even speak English properly." I was four at the time and knew gramps had some serious issues. (Luckily my other grandfather had an awesome sense of humor and would get right under gramps' skin when he would start up, so I also learned how to deal with assholes :) )

It's some horrible inferiority complex. His own father was an abusive drunk tenant farmer outside of Canton, Ohio. Gramps was pretty proud that he worked his way out of that into being an engineer for IBM. When I heard someone use the phrase "F*ck you, I got mine." I thought it was brilliant and describes his politics perfectly.

So I think the religious reconciliation goes something along the lines of: black people and immigrants - God has a lot to forgive them for and these people need to learn their place. We can't all be on the top and if God wanted them to be rich he'd have made them white. After all Paul says in Corinthians that slaves must obey their masters.

All that being said, I might not be keen on the guy but he's still family. So no more political discussions when he's around, I'd prefer not to kill him. :/

So since I'm airing grievances about family, my dopey aunt was wailing and gnashing her teeth about how Obama has sent the country into the gutter and we'll never get out of the mess he's made.

In December 2008.

So I said, "You know he doesn't actually become president until next month, right?"

"AND LOOK AT ALL THE DAMAGE HE'S DONE ALREADY!"

/I might not be able to pick on gramps, but she's totally fair game

This is getting so annoying... is it too much to ask the brainiacs at the White House to at least fake like they care about religious people and traditional values within 60 days of an election?

If they could just fake sincerity with the American people, they would win in a landslide.

The president also failed to note how Americans sought solace in their religion in the aftermath of the Al-Qaeda attacks.

Well you see, chuckles, not ALL of us are religious, so not all of us "sought solace in our religion", so it wouldn't have been a true statement.

So there's that...

In other words, now people are attacking Obama because he made a proclamation that didn't have as much Jehovah in it as they think it should have.
