I know it is a joke but that is a Hebrew name sometimes spell Jael instead of Yael and the 'J' is pronounced like a soft 'Y' and it is two syllables.

I've dealt with a family member who had a meth addiction. It's a heart-wrenching problem to live with, especially when there is a codependent who makes excuses for them and gives them money. I hope she is able to get past this. It's a pretty horrible sickness.

My brother is a meth-head. After years of ignoring his kids, stealing from our mother and expecting us all to tip-toe around him and support his ass if he had some actual disease like cancer he's completely burnt-out my sympathy.

I hate him.

I am not saying that you are wrong in any way for not liking your brother but, his drug of choice is a symptom of the disease of addiction.

Some people can drink one beer and that is all they want. I can't. One, turns into two, then four, then eight and so on. I am fine as long as I do not take that first drink.

What was it that stopped you? I can go through most of a bottle of whiskey a night and have for a couple years now. I keep trying sobriety and for some reason I don't have physical withdrawal symptoms, I just find it very, very boring.

I just decided one day that I had had enough. I needed a life style change to get out of my rut of working all the time and drinking in my free time. It was hard at first as I had to quit doing things I associated with drinking. Major one was bowling. Gawd I love bowling but it went hand in hand with drinking.

Picked up new hobbies like mountain biking, hiking, finding new greasy spoon's to eat at. Anything I could think of to keep from being bored by myself and wanting to drink.

I also went and saw a doctor because with boredom and loneliness for me, came sadness. He put me on the lowest dosage of an anti-depressant (zoloft) and it helps a ton.

She was messed up on the show. Then during filming her best friend died of a drug overdose and she started into a downward spiral that was disturbing to watch for a reality show about wannabe models. Then Tyra Banks decided like a week after Jael's friend died that she was going to do a photoshoot that involved putting Jael in a coffin and it was horribly exploitative and designed to make her freak out. Not that Tyra Banks is to blame for this girl turning into a meth head, but she had issues that were exploited in ways that crossed the line for reality TV and I don't think it exactly helped. She was never quite the same on the show after the coffin shoot.

You're lucky. For the most of 5 years I put away a good 1.75'er+ of vodka a night. Managed to quit cold turkey, That was 2 weeks lying on the floor puking, shaking, not eating, sweating, etc...That was a couple years ago. Just recently picked it back up again, beer this time, but I'm already where I get headaches, sweats, and the light shakes. Really need to stop.

The cycle of not eating, dry heaves and loss of appetite unless I drank was what eventually made me want to quit. Oh and the sweating when I stopped, dear gawd it could be below zero outside and I would be sweating balls.

For the past 3 or 4 months I've been noticing more and more that I have to remind myself to actually eat. I cook for a living as well. I'll buy the best ingredients, make something wonderful and then give it to my roommates because I really just wanted to taste it to make sure the recipe was right or my idea was correct. It's a bit weird have as much of my black cod ceviche as you like but god help you if you try to get into my Jameson.

i sweat like that but i think its because i drink not because im not drinking. i drink roughly 2 liters of beer a day and every morning the 400yards to the train station, even if its snowy, is enough to soak my undershirt thru. in the summer its ridiculous.

guess im sweating out the toxins from the night before or something.

man i feel a lot better about my drinking after reading this thread. thanks guys. and good luck to you. that much hard booze has gotta be hard to drop. if i have to go a few days w out beers i get grumpy, cant imagine what its like at your collective level.

Yup, I know exactly how that is. I am 5'10" 230lbs with a 34 inch waist when healthy. When I quit drinking though, I was down below 170lbs and a 28 inch waist line. I looked like a cancer patient going through chemo. I had almost no fat on my body because I would always get full from beer and decide not to eat, forget to, or pass out.

Live a more active life, or switch up the substances you abuse. I know that sounds 'pat', but... someone has to say it, first.

/cut back on drinkin' to lose some weight

I totally watched that show, too. Hot chicks going crazy, what's not to like?! I even remember this chick (was she the one Fiddy Cent pushed into the pool?) but forgot about the coffin shot.

/pretty sure that was an anti drug/smoking campaign... all the girls were doing something death-related.

I've asked before but have never gotten an answer:

Why do all these meth people have bleached blonde hair.
Almost every "faces of meth" slide show you see, the before, they're brunette. The after? Bleached (with black roots).

What is it about meth than causes you to bleach your hair??
