On the bright side they already have a memorial site, they just need to add another picture.

Police said Julius Schmidt, 14, and two friends were praying at a memorial site where John Muller, a relative of Schmidt's, died in August 2010.

Oh, is that what kids are calling getting stoned and having sex nowadays?

I so want to vist this place and put up another picture.
One of Darwin and leave an empty sixer of Schmidt's cans at the base.

Also, FTFA: "Friends on Monday stopped by the memrial for Schmidt that appeared next to the tracks. They said the Oaklea Middle School student loved skateboarding and the music of Bob Marley."

Looks like the slow runner was not the only stoner with a boner that day.

Oh shiat, next the brothers will be rolling around trying to get Oregon to separate from the US, and probably speak French or something.

They should really move the memorial off to one the side of the rails.

Sadly Julius Schmidt was not aware of the real life consequences of a popular joke about not having to outrun a bear and did not change exchange his Doc Martins for Nike's.

They were there to pray and God answered with another test of faith for this family. May his strength guide them as their journey is long and difficult.

Maybe it's not such a hot idea to have a memorial right next to the train tracks. Just sayin'.

Darwin is strong with this family.

So they both tried to outrun a train? Really? You don't suppose there is any chance some psycho pushed them onto the tracks? You know, the kind of psycho who likes to pray at public memorial sites?

Where the hell is Columbo when this poor schmuck town desperately needs him?

Seems like the stupidity of these punk kids grows by the day. So much for thinning the herd.

People don't seem to realize how fast passenger trains travel. Also, while not relevant in this case, they are pretty quiet compared to freight trains.

I love how the reporter is walking all over the tracks throughout the report.

2012-09-12 12:59:59 AM
From a local paper: Schmidt was one of three youngsters who were walking on the railroad tracks ... "Two jumped off just before the train (could) hit them and Juluis did not make it,"

That doesn't sound like they were "praying and considering what happened to the relative."

The My Little Pony Killer: Oh, is that what kids are calling getting stoned and having sex nowadays?

They did say he "loved skateboarding and the music of Bob Marley."

"An impromptu memorial has been erected at the site, and many friends were gathered there Sunday evening, Chase said. For the most part, folks were staying clear of the tracks, but some parents and youth had to be reminded earlier in the day that they were trespassing on the tracks, he said.

Looks like Darwin still has some work to do.

Rufus Lee King: I really can't work up any kind of snark about this. Too sad. I assume that they were trying to pay some sort of tribute to their fallen comrade by running across the tracks in front of the train. Don't do things like that, man.

See, I am having the exact opposite reaction. I laughed at the headline here, and then again at the real headline. I am guessing that I just purchased a first class ticket though. I'll take a window seat.

This happened in my town. My son knew the boy. I graduated with the boy's mom and stepdad. This is tragic and stupid. There was no specific memorial at the tracks just a kid remembering his family in a stupid way. The trains rip through town at crazy and unacceptable speeds. Vehicles are limited to 30mph in that area but trains can do 75? In a populated space? It is not right.

/sad
