DRTFA but we need a Vermont tag, if it's the story I'm thinking of.

What a douche.

SSD ftw

A MacBook would have survived the fall. The aluminum case and SSD drive are extremely shock-tolerant. Maybe the screen would need to be replaced, but all in all, Macs have much better build quality than Winblows PCs.

So there I was, drinking, walking by the railroad tracks along a 100-foot cliff near a power dam; naturally, I had my trusty laptop with me...

2012-09-11 10:52:32 PM
To the roof with the laptop I did go
over to the edge and I gave it a throw,
and when it arrived seven stories below
it really made a mighty fine sound-o, sound-o, sound-o,
and when it arrived seven stories below,
it really made a mighty fine sound-O.

If you hadn't taken that arrow to the knee, that horse could have taken you to college.

I want to come in here and say that this guy clearly went to the Patrick Norton school of computer disposal, but I can't find the clip of him tossing a desktop tower off a cliff.

Aluminum unibody macs can get dented pretty easily, especially around the Ethernet jack and in the corners. A good drop on the corner warps the frame enough that the bottom plate won't fit flush, a problem considering 7/10 of the screws are 2mm long. The aluminum seems to be about the same grade as a trinket anodized keychain, so in no way was the plastic-to-aluminum change meant to make them rugged.

If you want a tough computer, lug around DIP chips in a re-entry capsule.

If it had the sole remaining hard drive with my writing on it, I'd go over the edge trying to retrieve it too. That's about the only thing though.

Well, maybe my Skyrim saves...

I don't know what's stupider: this drunk guy trying to retrieve his computer, or that lame-ass pop-up
blocker-avoiding interstitial ad that came up when I first brought up the page.
