CynicalLA: Does he not have any policy specifics or just too scared to tell us about them?

If I had to guess, I bet he supports a lot of what Obama is doing. But to say so would kill him, politically, with his base. So he says nothing.

xsive: Nadie_AZ: FooDog: When it comes to the debates there is really little room for unspecified, generic policy fluff. If Romney doesn't own up to real plans reg at least fiscal policy, taxation policy, economic growth by then he's lost. You cannot win by whining and not offer alternatives. It'll be his 'put the campaign on pause because of Lehman Brothers' moment.

Perhaps what he is trying to do is save his 'content' for the debates. That is how he thinks he'll catch Obama off guard. Obama may say something about his vague tax plan to which he'll spew numbers and data to catch Obama off guard and score some points.

This is what I was thinking, maybe he's waiting till the debates in hopes he will catch obama off guard.. it could work.

though, now that I think of it, the standard rebuttal can be "is this today's position or yesterday's?"

He figures he doesn't have to, just like he figures he doesn't have to make with the tax forms or own up to all of the lies he constantly tells. . He's farking clueless but the scary thing is that people are still voting for him. He will lose if people actually go out and vote but if rational people don't bother to go to the polls, this moron could actually win. I wouldn't bet money on that but it's a non-zero possibility.

I don't think his candidacy is about specifics. He wants to be the CEO of the corporatochracy. His job is to sign whatever legislation the Republican controlled house puts on his desk.

in college, i used to be a doorman at a local music venue. when some unsuspecting schmuck came to the door and asked what kind of music was playing that night, the conversation would go thusly:

me: "what kind of music do you like?"
schmuck" "reggae"
me: "it's reggae! ten bucks."

this is essentially how romney operates.

He was Obama's ambassador to China. This association with their most hated foe renders him unclean in the eyes of the GOP

I wouldn't have voted for Huntsman because I'm not a Republican, but Jon Huntsman would have given Obama a run for his money, I believe. So on one hand, I'm glad he wasn't the nominee because I want Fartbongo to get a 2nd term, but on the other......I'm tired of one candidate always having to be either batshiat insane or mentally retarded.

And told the Mexicans all to leave

Romney's "say little, spend much" campaign stratagery is, apparently, a cunning plan not thought all the way through.

Honest to FSM, the man seems to think he can just coast into the WH by mumbling vague generalities, repeating easily debunked RW propaganda and largely depending on the 'success' of the 24 hour "Everything Obama did, does and is thinking of doing is WRONG WRONG WRONG" derp narrative.

And now all the RW pundits are running around pretending they just noticed this in order to try to look like they have an ounce of competence and to try to preserve what's left of their tattered reputations?

So, they're pretty much imploding on their own without needing any help from the rest of us then?

Well, not much left for me to do here but post the obligatory Nelson Muntz pic.

Serious Black: The problem is that if Mitt Romney starts filling in the details to his various plans, he's going to alienate either the base or the middle, if not both at the same time.

This. Nobody wins a presidential nomination without some smarts. He's a religious minority, gun rights restrictin', Massachusetts technocrat, after all. The base doesn't love him. He knows this.

Beat your foes in the party
Like scraping barnacles off your yacht
You just strategically clipped each gal and guy
Your wife gave it all she's got
You had speeches up on youtube
That you'd hoped we'd all forgot
And your veep picks said "I won't be your partner,
Won't be your partner", and

You're so Bain
The billionaires on Wall Street all tout you
You're so Bain
You know that your ten-forties will out you
Don't you? Don't you?

You governed several years ago
And now we just can't believe
That you signed a big reform of health care
Were a friend to Adam & Steve
But you disavowed the things we loved
So very casually
You hope that you'll be allowed to drink coffee
'llowed to drink coffee, and

You're so Bain
You probably think we'll blow it without you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think nobody could doubt you
Don't you? Don't you?

Well, I hear you went down to Sarasota
And gave those seniors some fun
Now the whole right wing is trying to scapegoat ya
Cause they know that Barack's got this won
Well, you're what you should be all the time
And usually, you're with
Some filthy rich guy with a wife who'll change Depends
Wife who'll change Depends, and

You're so Bain
Why don't you let us go on without you
You're so Bain
I'll bet you think we'll blow it without you
Don't you? Don't you? Don't you?

I've noticed something about Romney from the way he talks. When you hear him talking like a normal person, that's the stuff he actually believes. But sometimes he goes into some sort of "character." He'll widen his eyes like a boy's, he'll talk gently and smoothly. I think that the times where he puts on that character is when he actually knows that what he's saying is BS.
