Because its been over a farking decade, to be honest with you. All of these gestures year after year are starting to seem fake and ring hollow. This "moment of silence" is starting to mean as much as a yellow ribbon car magnet or a flag lapel pin. It's just a goddamn show and I'd rather they do nothing at all than some sort of compulsory "I'm sadder than you" dick waving contest.

Within days of the attack my whole street, not to mention most of my town of 20k people, had a flag on their front porch. Within a few months most of the flag were gone, a few months later the only people who really had their flag still up were the people that had their flags up prior to the attack. It moved me, not because of all of the Americans banding together but because the people jumped on the bandwagon to show their "patriotism" and within months were too fickle to commit to their newfound patriotism. heh....

Banned on the Run: 9/11 coverage is like a politician's flag lapel pin. They really don't need to tell us which side they're on, but they do anyway to avoid the derpfest.

I wish politicians would STOP wearing the flag lapel pin. I mean, if they really, really want to do it, sure. But it's so hollow. They only do it to avoid the derpfest. I want a politician to not do it, and then take on the derp fest head on. Hell, it would be better if someone like McCain did it. Go ahead and try to tell him he's not patriotic.

Think of the national tragedies that happened when you were a kid, then measure how ho-hum you feel about it. You'll understand them better.

I just can't let political speeches and media garbage get in the way that I know there are a lot of people who still live this the aftermath everyday. Yeah it has been ten years and people should try to my in but it isn't that easy for some people. The town I am from still lives with it every day. I don't know where you are from but I would hope that people could separate the propaganda from the reality.

So, have any of you ever heard the Nickelback - "Savin Me" remix with 9/11 calls to 911? Apparently it's been around for quite a few years but I've never heard it. I was just driving home and heard it on the radio... does anyone else find it rather twisted?

My daughter is 12, my son is now 10. We both sat down this evening and watched the 102 minutes show on History. No commentary until the end...just eyewitness videos of that morning from 9 different perspectives. Nobody telling them what to think, how to react...just showing them what happened.

We discussed much about it. I think that my daughter finally gets it after seeing video of something falling down the side of tower 1 and asking what it was. I told her it was a person and she asked why they jumped. I had to explain to her that all those people got up that morning, got cleaned up, dressed, maybe had something to eat and kissed the spouse and maybe kids goodbye and went into work. By 9:45 on a day that was supposed to be like any other, they had to decide whether to burn to death or jump to their death. She'd been aware of what 9-11 was and what happened but I think that's the first time that she truly "got it".

Anyway, the shows on television about 9-11 were worthwhile at my house this year. I don't know that I'll ever be as smug and jaded and flippant about mass murder as some of Fark seems to be. Sorry it's such a drag to those folks. You can get back to your mass consumerism and constant, everpresent entertainment and attention deficit disorder tomorrow.

Over 415,000 Americans died in that war. Somewhere between 40-70 million total dead. Sorry, but 9/11 was just a pinch compared to that.

It's not about being "flippant about mass murder," it's an acceptance of the fact that everyone greives, remembers and memorializes in different ways and the shocking inability of many people to accept that. I have no ill will any American who chooses to memorialize 9/11 in any way they deem appropriate. I have a problem with calling out other people or Farking TV Networks of all things for "Not memorializimg correctly" I'm sorry, thats horseshiat and the second anyone starts doing that, I'm going to immediately start questioning their motives.

To me, when people start doing that shiat, they are doing it to make it all about them instead of who it should really be about - the heroes and victims of that day. It's a memorial, it's not a farking contest. People need to stop turning everything into a goddamned spectator sport.

Fine, let people remember their lost in their own personal way; no one's telling them to stop. Let your town do their own memorial and go to that. Let the news cover whatever major service occurs in NYC. But why should the ENTIRE COUNTRY stop?

Please justify why the entire nation has to genuflect to your town's emotional issues? And for how long? If a bigger tragedy happens, will the nation no longer be required to carry out this particular song and dance, because there's something more awesome to pin their patriotism to and a bigger pain to worship at the feet of?

It's been over a decade now, and people have forgotten many other disasters and man made tragedies, whether it's Pearl Harbor, the Alaska Earthquake, Hurricane Camille, Hurricane Hugo, Oklahoma City bombing, Hurricane Katrina, or the tornadoes in Joplin, Missouri. None of these get a moment of silence, yet 9/11 does. When does New Orleans get a moment of silence? Oh that's right, they don't: black and poor white people don't get that.
