All y'all can suck it. We have a great time, my Wii, the wife and kids and I, and I've no plans to upgrade until the new Zelda comes out and I have to do so. Still playing my favorite Gamecube games too and Tiger Woods golf.

you know, its sort of interesting point that many of the people already in this thread who are looking fondly on the wii are saying 1 of 2 things- that they hacked theirs, or that they really enjoyed it for playing games from previous systems.

I hacked mine, have all Wii games on an external hardrive, and all 850 SNES games on a SD card that I can play, my Wii is far from being bid farewell.

Never understood the hate for the Wii.  Its not really a gamers console.  I'm not a gamer... I don't do first person shooters, MMORPG, games with high-intensity action and graphics.

Its perfect for me.  Have some friends over for drinks and play bowling, darts, golf, whatever.

Somehow I don't think paying a license fee to Sony for each console is high on Nintendo's to-do list.

Sony doesn't own the format, the consortium does. Withholding a feature to save a buck or two is rather a dickish move, to be honest.

The whole thing for Nintendo is, and always has been, they don't really worry about what some self-styled diehards want, they try to figure out how to get people interested who no one else is really attempting to interest. With the Wii they ended up with people they likely never thought of playing their games, I know many retirement communities got Wiis because with a Wiimote the seniors can move and do things that take little more than some hand eye coordination. Also it turns out the seniors love it. Plus various places doing physical therapy got Wiis because they found out some of the games are great for their purposes. Nintendo isn't going to go down the colors and polygons rabbit hole, because that's not really their thing. They think about how games are played, not how shiny the reflections are. Plus it avoids having to get into Sony and Microsoft's slap fight. Which itself is a smart move.

Pocket Ninja: Ah, the Wii. The Bowflex of gaming consoles. Too bad it wasn't big enough to use for hanging clothes.

Wow, I'll have to remember that title. Good one!

scottydoesntknow:
I don't hate the Wii, I've just never really enjoyed any of their games beyond the one that shipped with the console. My friends and I played bowling for days, but every other game just got a 'meh'.

But that's... kinda the point of why it's a bad console. Most of Wii buyers got it along with Wii Sports, then never bought anything else for it. And that's... silly. Most people experienced in buying consoles knows you don't buy it unless there's a handful of games you KNOW you want for it. Casuals just bought it because it was popular and 'designed for them', not really knowing what they wanted, and ended up spending $200 for a glorified karaoke machine.

And this is why I think Nintendo might by in trouble with home consoles. I don't see casual gamers making that mistake twice, so the majority of Wii's audience won't buy the Wii U. Nintendo will always dominate the handheld market, but I think they shot themselves in the foot for home consoles.

Things like this reaffirm to me that progress is happening. I still remember zip disks and there's no way the old one would hold any photoshop file I'm doing today.

Little envious, I'd rather play old SNES than anything out there.

Xenoblade Chronicles was fun if you were able to ignore the horrible voice work or had the tv on mute.

I still play with my Wii. If I didn't, my Wii would lie dormant and flaccid.
