You are now free to move to another search engine

TFA: "We don't have an explicit strategy to go chase the verbiness," says Adam Sohn, general manager of influencer marketing at Bing. "We don't have that as a goal--like we're not spending money [on it]. We've never tried to verb it."

Have you tried nouning it?

Heh, the only time I've used Bing was because it was the default search engine and I didn't feel like typing the 'www.' and '.com' for Google.

The ios bing apps are pretty darned good for that too, or so I've heard.

oh comeon just google it on bing

The Bing Video search is awesome in that you can specify length over in the left sidebar after you've searched. So you can search for say a movie title and then specify Length > 60 minutes.

Misleading headline is misleading. Within MS everyone uses Bing. We just don't say the phrase "Bing it" very often. It doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. I know this because I work for them and have Binged a few things in my time (which just sounds dirty in past tense). ;)

Even on Bings own comparison website Google wins with me.

Sybarite: I could Bing it, but I think I'll just AltaVista it instead.

I thought that I should try that ... for old times sake, you know (talk about a leading product that blew it completely!)

For my name/nickname:

Google: 5,860 results but a few top 20 pages that are in fact someone else
nickname: 662 results
AltaVista: 5,740, slightly better focused
nickname: 40 results

Good. Because verbing weirds language.

They should bring back that hot chick that would help you with your searches by making snarky comments about your search terms. That'd help Bing.

Welcome to the English language. We force our words into very, very dirty positions. And they like it.

I got the joke. The word verb is a noun and you used it as a verb to say don't do it. Very clever. I need a drink.

Traditionally, companies have fought against what's called "genericide" or "generification," an industry term for when a brand name becomes so commoditized that it loses association with the company that first created it. Think: Aspirin, Band-Aid, Xerox, Frisbee

Some might be happy about that effect

Some Bass Playing Guy: Bing maps "bird's eye view" is awesome.

True. If I want to check out somewhere I use Google Maps for Streetview and Bing Maps for (often) higher resolution and to be able to see four views, North, East etc.

/Bing Maps doesn't scroll as nicely though. When you move around it leaps and jumps from one image to another.

Actually.. i recently stopped using google as my search engine, half the time it takes forever to come up and now has "suggested" results which are just ads... bing is fast and gives better results... i love android and google.. but they are ruining their search engine

This is the only Bing I know.
I prefer the easy method to do searches - typing "g search item here" in the address bar of my Opera web browser..

A couple of weeks ago I was walking past the Bill Gates foundation and I saw some chalk writing on the sidewalk. It was advertising some new event or idea they wanted you look up online. "Google it" was the dominate phrase underneath the name of the subject. I saw one reference to using Bing, looking as if it was added as an afterthought.

I think Bing's been getting better, and I've gotten $25 in Amazon giftcards recently for using it. While it still does miss on the occasional longer query, I was surprised that I picked it by a 3-1-1 score over Google when I tried that Bingiton challenge.

I missed the point of that article - and, of course, subby's disingenuous headline. "Microsoft hasn't made 'bing' enough of a verb yet" is basically the entire article? Really?

I don't use Google when I can avoid it - the advertising is getting to be a bit much, and the "gaming" of their search results for money means I'm not actually getting what I want, when I want it, when I use Google. Bing's actually better in some areas (*cough* including image searches *cough*), too.

The article smells like "paid commentator output", to be honest.

IrateShadow: With anecdotes like this, I can't imagine why employees might be cold on in.

That's the thing, though - they're not. Bing's quite the useful tool.

The whole point of that article is that even Microsoft employees that use Bing aren't using "bing" as a verb often enough to describe using the search engine, so... vote Republican, apparently.

Bing video searches are quite spiffy...with safesearch off of course.

Anyone of the opinion that Steve Balmer is actually a double agent for Apple?

I installed the CTP of Windows 8. My wife saw the weather app, laughed, pionted and said, "Ha! You got Binged!"

I've tried searching with Bing and I've found the results to be about on par with Google. Still, anytime someone sends you a link to Bing, the only appropriate response is to laugh and say that you got Binged.

Where? Their MapsGL only has "3D" for a few, limited areas and that is 3D drawings of buildings, and not even all the buildings.
The Bing maps Birds Eye view covers far more area and is genuine photographic images looking North, East, South and West.

I'm guessing it's not available everywhere then? Maybe? I don't know. It only started working for my town in the last month or two, I think. And it's just the regular google maps, it comes up when you zoom in close enough.
