A couple of things...

1) This is her own police department that took action after a local complaint about the facebook posting. The only reason the secret service is involved is because they were notified by her department.

2) I don't think she's gonna run afoul of the feds, because she skirts a call to action. Her posting was obviously tasteless humor and misplaced frustration.

3) That doesn't mean she won't be fired. She can have all the freedom of speech she wants, but her job - government or not - probably has in her contract that she has to uphold the image, and they can deem this a violation of the contract. Likely, she'll be disciplined and be on paid leave for a bit, since this is a first time offense.

4) Her facebook support page are right, even though they're idiots for supporting her. She has her freedom of speech. They just don't understand the points above. They are likening this to the feds silencing dissent, etc. etc. Likely, they hate Obama, and any way to dig at him, including supporting someone who talks like a fool, they'll put their name to.

5) Without knowing her background or what she said, her pictures show her to be hot. Her comments and obvious mental level, though, lower her on the hotness scale. I can't separate inner and outer beauty.

Just a little perspective for y'all.

And unlike the right wing, we actually denounce those who call for violence against living human beings. We were also among those who criticized the Nobel council for giving Obama the Peace Prize. Unlike the right wing, our extremists don't become our Presidential candidates.

Otto_E_Rodika: Selective outrage over hyperbolic speech. Hypocrisy at its finest. How quickly the left forgets that vitriol and overt threats made against Bush.

This film even won a number of awards and praise from Roger Ebert. A filmed assassination of a sitting president. But remember, it's just a movie when the left does it.

[www.statebrief.com image 282x400]

The film wasn't about killing Bush, it was about the consequences of an assassination - that is, what America becomes after such an event. Anybody who actually read about or watched the film would know this, but that's too much work for your brain cells isn't it?

On the few occasions I have engaged one of these "wish Obama was dead" kinds, I have yet to hear anything that is even remotely reasonable for the hate. There's the "he's a Muslim" and "he wants to turn the U.S. over to the UN" and the ever popular "he wants to take away our guns". "Hatriot" is the term you are looking for. Generally means people who demonstrate their love of country by spouting off about how much they hate almost everyone in it. After all, according to the right-wingers, nothing is more patriotic than killing non-whites. Especially if they are also non-Christian.

Sargun: William Manchester's book, for example, discusses the "initial glee" with which right-wingers greeted news of the assassination. "An Oklahoma City physician beamed at a grief-stricken visitor and said, 'Good. I hope they got Jackie.'" In Amarillo, Texas, a woman reacted by saying: "Hey, great, JFK's croaked!" Men whooped and threw their hats in the air. Others smiled broadly. Soon, however, the right-wingers realized that their public gloating was a ghastly mistake, whereupon they began concealing their happiness. "[T]hey were anxious to avoid the undertow of public opinion," Manchester says.

Well, I guess that's the difference between then and now--those guys realized they made a mistake and toned it down. Nowadays we give them their own show.

On August 4, 2000, when Bush won the Republican nomination (but before he was president), Craig Kilborn on CBS's The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn ran a graphic of the words "SNIPERS WANTED" under George Bush as he gave his acceptance speech. Although CBS belatedly apologized five days later, Kilborn was never investigated, questioned or punished, and continued to host the show for four more years.

For those that are still confused as to why an off-duty cop would have corrective action taken upon them by their agency, cops generally take an oath to serve the pubic. This is just a suggested form of an oath from the International Association of Chiefs of Police:

I will never betray my badge,
my integrity, my character,
or the public trust.
I will always have
the courage to hold myself

robohobo: Rwa2play: robohobo: Free speech, where did it go?

So I guess you're the type that'll yell "fire!" in a crowded theater amirite?

Lol, it's called Fark for the most of GWB's years in office. But this is different, since it's black Jesus, amirite?

Never compare things again.

Huh, yeah, that's a keeper. +1

It's a great word. Describes them perfectly. They don't just hate the president. They hate everyone who doesn't think just like them.

So, on 9/11 with the "they're all gonna kill us!! They're hiding under the water bottles!! CHECK THE SHOES!!" hysteria - there's a problem when someone publicly says that they wish the President were assassinated?

This is where the hysteria of things like the Patriot Act, along with the gradual dumbing of America (thanks, TV/Internet!) have taken us.

Until the upper half of the bell curve stops getting bullied, it'll just get worse.

Jesus, don't these morons know that an officer can be fired or put on leave, for off-duty conduct that reflects badly on the department? You don't have to make an actual threat.

"Free speech": how does it farking work? *facepalm*

cubic_spleen: cc_rider: Fecking hell. Those same people called us "traitors and commies" simply for speaking out against the Iraq War, and wanting Bush/Cheney impeached (for damn good reason). They talk about "Second Amendment solutions" to a president they simply don't like, and call themselves "Patriots". :/

"Hatriot" is the term you are looking for. Generally means people who demonstrate their love of country by spouting off about how much they hate almost everyone in it. After all, according to the right-wingers, nothing is more patriotic than killing non-whites. Especially if they are also non-Christian.

Heh! I like that word! Gonna start using it.

Selective outrage over hyperbolic speech. Hypocrisy at its finest. How quickly the left forgets that vitriol and overt threats made against Bush.

This film even won a number of awards and praise from Roger Ebert. A filmed assassination of a sitting president. But remember, it's just a movie when the left does it.

Free speech does not mean free from repercussions of your speech.
You must have missed that part in grade school. Assuming you attended grade school.

It'd be interesting to see if this kind of sentiment has been expressed as frequently during past presidencies. I just don't recall so much viceral hate toward such as Bush I or II, or Clinton. How about Carter? Or Nixon?

Free speech is one thing, inviting an assassin to take out anyone, let alone the US head honcho, is another thing. Perhaps she should have just said "I disagree with the current president" and left it at that.

Hell, she could have even went so far as to call him dirty names and insult his mother. But she took it a step...nay, an Incredible Hulk Leap further and actually made specific statements about wishing he would be assassinated. That pushes it into a whole 'nother level. The kind where the SS would like a word with you.

Cythraul: kid_icarus: So you're a policeman...and you seriously don't know better than this? I don't care what your politics are. The same stupidity would apply if this were 5 years ago and we were dealing with a left-leaning cop while Bush was in office. There are certain lines you just don't cross, especially if you're a civil servant allowed to carry firearms.

Left-leaning cop? Is there such a thing?

Yes.

I live across the street from one of them.
