jodaveki: It'd be interesting to see if this kind of sentiment has been expressed as frequently during past presidencies. I just don't recall so much viceral hate toward such as Bush I or II, or Clinton. How about Carter? Or Nixon?

I know that JFK was hated a lot. Here's one poster that resembles a lot of the anti-Obama warrgarbl. Here are some excerpts from an article written by a Professor of Law at the University of Georgia:

During his presidency, right-wingers utterly detested President John F. Kennedy; and the extreme right-wingers hated Kennedy with a venomous, malignant ferocity bordering on insanity. Because he was a liberal and pro-civil rights, right-wingers-particularly, the segregationists and racists, the opponents of civil rights, the states-righters, the free enterprise loonies, the wealthy ultra-conservatives, the religious bigots, the anti-Castro Cubans, the U.N. haters, and the lunatic fringe anti-Communists-regarded JFK as dangerous, destructive, and downright traitorous.

As William Manchester notes in his classic The Death of a President (1967): "At 3:05 p.m., when 80 percent of the American People were in deep grief, an NBC camera panned toward a group of spectators outside Parkland's emergency entrance and picked up a young man with a placard that read, 'Yankee, Go Home.'" (In a wealthy Dallas suburb, Manchester reminds us, "pupils of a fourth-grade class, told that the President of the United States had been murdered in their city, burst into spontaneous applause.")

William Manchester's book, for example, discusses the "initial glee" with which right-wingers greeted news of the assassination. "An Oklahoma City physician beamed at a grief-stricken visitor and said, 'Good. I hope they got Jackie.'" In Amarillo, Texas, a woman reacted by saying: "Hey, great, JFK's croaked!" Men whooped and threw their hats in the air. Others smiled broadly. Soon, however, the right-wingers realized that their public gloating was a ghastly mistake, whereupon they began concealing their happiness. "[T]hey were anxious to avoid the undertow of public opinion," Manchester says.

I'm gonna guess; blond, blue eyes, popular, friendly, hot, NRA member, and probably framed more black and Hispanic people in her career than an arts and crafts store during the holidays.

robohobo: Rwa2play: robohobo: Free speech, where did it go?

So I guess you're the type that'll yell "fire!" in a crowded theater amirite?

Lol, it's called Fark for the most of GWB's years in office. But this is different, since it's black Jesus, amirite?

Free speech does not mean free from repercussions of your speech.
You must have missed that part in grade school. Assuming you attended grade school.

Ross said a concerned citizen biatch that has a bone to pick with the officer e-mailed a copy of the Facebook posting to Tavares Police Chief Stoney Lubins

Also, the cop is stupid. But... hates Obama, carries a gun, and has a vagina. I would strongly consider hitting it. With my penis.

Both were shot during the transit to incarceration.

Charles Guiteau at least survived to execution.

Fecking hell. Those same people called us "traitors and commies" simply for speaking out against the Iraq War, and wanting Bush/Cheney impeached (for damn good reason). They talk about "Second Amendment solutions" to a president they simply don't like, and call themselves "Patriots". :/

You tell me.

There was plenty of hate towards W, but Fox News and Rush have done a good job of convincing the feeble minded that Obama is the worst president of all time. Which is kind of a head-scratcher. You hate the guy that couldn't fix the mess worse than the guy who helped start it?

Farktastic:

robohobo: Free speech, where did it go?

Free speech is one thing, inviting an assassin to take out anyone

Oh please. In the first place that's not a threat, it's a thought-crime; in the second place inviting anyone to do anything does not necessarily lead to getting what you ask for or I'd have long ago switched to begging Farkers to stop blowing me.

Even if it is a cop.

2012-09-11 11:34:31 AM
On the few occasions I have engaged one of these "wish Obama was dead" kinds, I have yet to hear anything that is even remotely reasonable for the hate. There's the "he's a Muslim" and "he wants to turn the U.S. over to the UN" and the ever popular "he wants to take away our guns". In every case I really believe the hate comes down to one simple fact, he's a ni*DING*er.

Fark the police.

Zarquon's Flat Tire: That's a stupid thing for a public employee to post, but I don't know that it counts as a threat.

Well, I guess that's the difference between then and now--those guys realized they made a mistake and toned it down. Nowadays we give them their own show.

With cops like these to protect us, no wonder so many guys want to carry.

2012-09-11 11:35:17 AM
We still maintain on the words John Wilkes Booth yelled when he shot Lincoln on the Virginia state flag: Sic Semper Tyrannis. The Maryland state song also references the line (the song is outright anti-union, which is not surprising as it wasn't written by a Marylander at all).

Dear Mother burst thy tyrant's chain.
Maryland!
Virginia should not call in vain.
Maryland!
She meets her sisters on the plain.
"Sic semper!" tis the proud refrain.
That baffles minions back amain.
Maryland my Maryland!

When I filled out my security clearance application they asked if I was ever a member of an organization that advocated the overthrow of the government by force or violence. I pointed out I had worked for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Cythraul: kid_icarus: So you're a policeman...and you seriously don't know better than this? I don't care what your politics are. The same stupidity would apply if this were 5 years ago and we were dealing with a left-leaning cop while Bush was in office. There are certain lines you just don't cross, especially if you're a civil servant allowed to carry firearms.

Left-leaning cop? Is there such a thing?

Left leg's slightly shorter than the right one.

If you want to get all technical...I don't find wondering where two dead guys are threatening to anyone...He didn't follow up by saying, "I'll just take care of this myself".

Right, because no reasonable person would understand referencing two dead presidential assassins as anything else, right? No one who wasn't a toddler or autistic perhaps?

"Hatriot" is the term you are looking for. Generally means people who demonstrate their love of country by spouting off about how much they hate almost everyone in it. After all, according to the right-wingers, nothing is more patriotic than killing non-whites. Especially if they are also non-Christian.

One she posted it, it was no longer a thought. It was an expression, and one the SS does not find amusing. And they would not have found it amusing 5 years ago if Bush was in office and someone posted the exact same thing. Is it a crime? Most likely not. Was it a stupid thing thing to post? Yes.

Free speech is useless without freedom from consequences. You *have* to define the consequences beforehand. Self-censorship will take over, otherwise.

And it was a Ford truck that hit the cop. In Florida. Nothing suspicious there.

Selective outrage over hyperbolic speech. Hypocrisy at its finest. How quickly the left forgets that vitriol and overt threats made against Bush.

This film even won a number of awards and praise from Roger Ebert. A filmed assassination of a sitting president. But remember, it's just a movie when the left does it.

Cops are (generally) low-paid unionized government employees. Several that I know as good friends are solidly democrat. Now whether that means they are liberal is up to question, I suppose.

And unlike the right wing, we actually denounce those who call for violence against living human beings. We were also among those who criticized the Nobel council for giving Obama the Peace Prize. Unlike the right wing, our extremists don't become our Presidential candidates.

The film wasn't about killing Bush, it was about the consequences of an assassination - that is, what America becomes after such an event. Anybody who actually read about or watched the film would know this, but that's too much work for your brain cells isn't it?
