Let's begin with just one example -- a famous movie from the 1960s. A film where this visceral hatred of the American middle class and its values first began to appear.

The film? The Graduate.

This is a serious magazine that people take seriously.

Sounds like the author was fat in college.

Damn, that was a stupid amount of hyperbole, and as relevent as a 40 year-old movie.

Damn. I figured it was soshulizms. I wasn't expecting it to be God's fault.

This can only mean one thing: more tax cuts for billionaires.

2012-09-11 09:12:49 AM
Remember, folks...Conservatives want to be the ones who grant you the freedom to be exactly like them.

Isn't it customary to provide actual evidence for one's argument? And take a moment to show how that evidence supports one's positions?

2012-09-11 09:21:06 AM
If one's argument is predicated on the size and relative wealth of Rush Limbaugh's audience, then one has chosen an opening gambit akin to "If I loudly beshat my trousers, my opponent will depart and victory is assured!"

The only way to save the middle class from the greedy hands of the Democrats is to raise taxes on the middle class and poor while simultaneously dropping all taxes to 0 for the richest Americans, eviscerating all social welfare programs, and getting rid of the minimum wage.

You know, like China.

That article was literally disgusting. Great job, twatmitter.

The Republican's policies over the last thirty years have been on the behalf of the wealthiest in the upper class and at the expense of the middle class.

Look, I realize the Republicans have to lie to get anyone to vote for them these days but could they at least try to find something even remotely believable just once for a change.

Difficulty: Must be a little more sophisticated than "No, U!"

2012-09-11 09:32:29 AM
Democrats literally hate the American middle class.

Now that Zimmermangate has abated for a bit, we should start a new drinking game for when conservative columnists use the word "literally."

In any event, you at least owe a drink for the above Zimmerman reference.

I gave up after page two. And I think that was gracious.

This guy's a walking Godwin. Jeffrey Lord has Hitler Tourettes just slightly less severely than Glenn Beck.

And we should have a one-party system. All Republican, all the time. Like China.

...

I'm beginning to wonder if, unlike what my father had always believed, the Communists subverted the REPUBLICAN party and not the Democrats...

As Marx has shown, the middle class, those who own things, but not the means of production, will turn to fascism as the proletariat gains more power. This is why the capitalists invented the middle class in the first place. They saw the inevitable rise of the proletariat, and gave a little power to the most successful peasants- doctors and lawyers, for example. Now, as the proles rise, they are taking that sliver of power, thus angering the "middle class" and turning them to fascism. This was the cheapest way for the capitalists to stave off the peasants.
But history takes time, and peasants aren't very fast learners, and the FInal Battle is far away. Right now, we only have to hate those who have already turned to fascism, like anyone who supports Mitt Romney.

Because liberals don't just hate Rush Limbaugh. The dirty little secret here is that liberals hate Rush Limbaugh's 20 million member middle-class audience! While at the same time desperately needing a portion of that very same middle-class to win elections.

is there any way to verify that Limbaugh actually HAS an audience that size? independently, I mean.

The Graduate wasn't against middle-class people. Everyone in that movie belonged to the upper class. How farking deluded do you have to be to think that Anne Bancroft's character was married to a middle-class guy?

Yes, going to college, having it paid for by your parents, who have a pool, and who give you scuba gear for your birthday, was so "middle class" in the 60s.

"Ben begins pounding on the glass, shrieking her name. The camera shows him, from a distance, resembling Christ on the cross -- as in being crucified. Crucified by all those patriotic, capitalistic, and religious (upper) middle class values embodied by the Robinsons and their clique. Elaine, after hesitating, runs to Ben while her parents and the groom are seen silently spewing. Hatred writ large over their supposedly God-loving faces."

Let me summarize the article:

1. Liberals made and watched The Graduate.
2. The Graduate made fun of the plastics industry.
3. Middle class people have jobs, some of which are in plastics.
4. Therefore liberals hate the middle class.

1. Dustin Hoffman was in The Graduate

2. Dustin Hoffman was also in Meet the Parents 2: Meet the Fockers.

3. Barbara Streisand was also in Meet the Fockers

4. Barbra Streisand is liberal.

This means liberals hate America.

God is not a middle class American.

Even if you somehow accept that not mentioning Him in a political platform is "hating him," that is zero evidence for or against any emotion regarding the middle class.

I read about two thirds of that first page before I realized the author is just trolling both sides.

I consider myself a middle class conservative and have plenty of middle class liberal friends and drinking pals.

This is the type of BS that I expect from Michael Moore - stir the shiat up and hope that no one questions anything until after they notice they've been bent over and by then it's too late.

Is this the thread where we bring out our broken syllogisms? I'll think of a clever one.

But until then, it seems that the middle class depends upon obtainable (affordable) higher education, and professional jobs and business opportunities.

If the university can't provide the former and businesses and their investors are actively encouraged by FTAs and relaxed import laws to go abroad for manufacturing while only creating uncompetitive McJobs here, it will not matter who is in office - the middle class is endangered. The wealth disparity and stratification of the upper class is also a result of this. The government *can* and *does* create jobs, but not enough to maintain our historical population of the middle class.

Which party increases the pace, or provides ameliorative actions to this process *may* be a matter of debate, but until we revoke our FTAs and start looking at incentives for businesses to return onshore and punitive sanctions against those that move off, there will be no recovery for the middle class.

Using standard radio, no, there isn't. FCC regulations currently prevent commercial radios from sending signals back to any source. They are required and intentionally designed to receive only. Sometimes you might get one or two that will mess up and transmit(it's possible, but the odds are pretty south of 1.0x10^-6), but they generally only send jibberish on a random, unoccupied frequency. I have heard of one case where after a man dropped his TV set, it would broadcast on 243 MHz, which is a frequency range you do NOT want to transmit near.

If it was all based around web radio, it would be possible by measuring web traffic from an independent site, like Alexia.com, which measures rankings and hits.
