well, they do have to keep the Owners (stockholders) happy. after all, where would the world be without a small minority who lives off of other people's labor rather than their own. and grows their wealth doing it.

A Fortune 50 retail company I once worked for sent hundreds of good-paying IT jobs offshore a few years back. At the same time, in their quarterly financial statements, the same company was complaining that "uncertainty in the employment sector" was negatively impacting their customers' spending habits... Their best customers had traditionally been people who were earning about -- oh -- what their well-paid IT workers were being paid prior to the mass layoffs.

(*sigh*) Really not seeing the forest for the trees there, folks...
