So basically assembled in the U.S. but 99% of the production life cycle was probably in China?

Come on, it's a small business founded in Texas. You know they've got to claim to be Republican. What makes you think they'd bother paying minimum wage? What are the "illegals" going to do, go on strike?

Why can't every day be 9/11?

The queue had several 9/11 stories which were quite depressing, including one about a family who just got to see their father's handwritten note stating he was trapped on the 84th floor. I submitted this one hoping it would be less depressing, just a feel-good story about a small business and its contribution to our national culture. It seems the modmins agreed. (yay, modmins.)

I'm all good with cynicism and even bad taste jokes, I'm just sick of being depressed on this day every year.

Baloo Uriza: It happened 11 years ago. Quit living in the past!

But the past caused the present. The events of 9/11/2001 did no amount of damage comparable to the damage to individual liberty we've done to ourselves since.

9/11 is the day Americans voted to kill liberty and freedom.

Baloo Uriza: It happened 11 years ago. Quit living in the past!

Seriously. The number of people who spend the day purporting to get weepy when they are in no way connected to what happened is mind-boggling. They'd do better to spend the day getting weepy over the fact that 9/11 has been used to justify that civil liberties have been radically undermined by our own government, we're killing innocent civilians left and right in foreign countries, and we're basically now living with policy decisions driven by corporate military-industrial and financial interests.

She is very outspoken about her disdain towards Obama. She groans when he is on tv and usually spews talk radio bullshiat that I then have to snopes for her. Yesterday she said Obama probably paid off snopes.

Whatever the hell they are, they're farking huge! They appear to have a wingspan more than half the width of the 85-story skyscraper. Parents should take caution when visiting the memorial with small children. Or hell, when visiting without small children, since then you don't have anything to toss to the damn things when they attack so you can make your escape.
