Tacky? Yes, but at least they're giving something to those deserving of a bit of reward.

If politicians can co-opt 9-11 for their unadulterated bullshiat, why not a casino. If one's tacky, the other is. If one isn't the other isn't. Boom, next topic.

Also, The Consumerist and everyone involved in it sucks festering heaps of day-old donkey shiat.

When some bar buys the first responders and military leaders a beer for their service, is that addicting them to alcohol?

It's a casino. Is there anything they could do that isn't tacky?

Yes subby, anyone who ever gambles even one time is certainly going to become addicted and end up homeless, living under a bridge.

Much like anyone who ever has a puff on one of them funny cigarettes is going to wind up a heroin addict.

Next thing you know businesses will be running 9-11 day sales.

Profits above all else.

Last year, the morning after Osama bin Laden was killed, a casino near me (Vernon Downs) announced on their Facebook page that, for the entire day, their lunch and dinner buffets, normally $9.99 and $12.99, would be free for the entire day. The reasoning was, that the president of the owner's group of the casino had lost a close relative, a daughter IIRC, in the WTC. He was so relieved that bin Laden was gone that he wanted to share with everyone. All in all, it wasn't handled in any way resembling tacky, at least any moreso than any other casino promotion. On top of that, the food was AWESOME!

The poll needs a "Meh" option.

Back at the end of 2001, I was dating a girl that was the vice-president of a marketing firm.

About a month after 9/11, she told me that her company came up with a promotion for a golf equipment company. They were going to sell commemorative golf tees shaped like little Twin Towers.

I broke up with her.

/too bad, because she was hot, and wasn't a horrible "marketing" person when I met her. All hot girls end up in marketing, and lose their souls.

I've been waiting for the 9/11 used car sales. So far they've held out a lot longer than I expected.

They said EMTs twice.

The tackiness of the casino aside, the line about addicting them to gambling is stupid.

"Prices are falling down, down, down to the ground!"
"We're straight shooters on our prices, just like the SEALS who took out Osama bin Laden!"
"We won't sell you a weapon of mass destruction."

So they're "honoring" first responders by offering them a slightly discounted room and $9 worth of food? I'm not sure whether I'd consider that an honor or an insult. I can get way better deals than that in Vegas just by going during their slow times.

They're people, like the rest of us. Why wouldn't they enjoy a discount at a casino? I have absolutely zero problem with this, other than all the 9.11 prices being stupid. Just make it $9.

I'm not exactly seeing the problem here - it's a bonus for our service men. Might be a little better on Veteran's day maybe but hey, it's not harming anyone.

Let me guess, you have a giant "9/11" tattooed across your ass cheeks and a crying bald eagle on your chest? "Never forget" inked boldly across your forehead backwards, so that you remember every time you look in the mirror?

It's just like Freakanomics speaks about - they brought the "social" context into a "business" context - akin to having Thanksgiving dinner that your grandma made and when done, sliding back the chair and saying "What do I owe ya?". Or plopping down a $10 bill...Insulting.

The responders did more than their job - they were heroes. ANY company that tries to reward them with "freebies" or discounts kind of ends up looking tacky.
