Hi there!

2012-09-11 05:38:40 AM
Usually, they just let the local factories test children for resistance to poison.
But now this stuff is getting out of control!

DOZENS of Chinese children? So, what with the exchange rate, that's something, like, what, 1 or 2 regular children?

Uhm hm. Typical.

China is kicking our ass with regards to capitalism.

2012-09-11 09:00:28 AM
But you see, China doesn't NEED a regulated society, because they're COMMUNIST not capitalist, amirite?
Oh, sure, you capitalists need regulations on how much lead can be in your baby formula and how much baby formula can be in your antifreeze, but in a communist country, that is completely unnecessary because everyone works for everyone else. Everyone belongs to everyone else. Khaki is such a horrible color. I'm glad I'm not an Epsilon.

It's RICE! It's not like they were tired up with electrodes on their brains or anything they probably just wanted to know if kids would eat rice that's a funny color or has a slightly different taste.

2012-09-11 09:22:25 AM
Most children are guinea pigs.

GM rice? Does it overheat and fall apart?

adm_crunch: GM rice? Does it overheat and fall apart?

No that's Ford or Dodge/Fiat rice. They said the Japanese rice was quite satisfying, but was overall bit duller in flavor. The German rice was fantastic, yet still somehow had electrical issues.

local butcher shop sells guinea pigs.
skinned and gutted,

I guess next time I am there I will have to ask if it is from local or chinese sources.

2012-09-11 10:10:19 AM
Are you saying that they ATE them?

Science works by monitoring itself. How many people has religion fed lately? Pray away the hunger!

Quantum Apostrophe: Science works by monitoring itself. How many people has religion fed lately? Pray away the hunger!

Who mentioned religion? Don't you care that children have been endangered? This is atheist communist China; the Jebus freaks aren't going to come and steal their genetic engineering.

So... let me get this straight... they were fed food that doesn't do anything other than nourish them?

2012-09-11 12:17:07 PM
Wait, the Chinese have a problem with that sort of thing now? Are they just concerned the kids might not live long enough to assemble cheap electronics for the world?

2012-09-11 12:22:29 PM
Huh. Reminds me of the story about the Asian (I think Korean in this case, but I could be wrong) was pressuring his female employees to volunteer their eggs for his fertility research. Class act.

Er this was supposed to say "Asian researcher" not just "Asian".

What he said.

I'd be surprised if this isn't just a purge of the researcher in question. I bet he crossed the wrong person in power and suddenly he is suspended and his ethics and research all called into question.

And just drop all the communist jokes and BS. China has been openly capitalist for over a decade. The Communist Party's current role is to exert control of their people and the direction of their country. Corruption in the form of bribes, kickbacks, protection and power sharing happen at a scale that should make the old-school mafia whimper - and the Central Party is not unaware of this.

I thought SCIENCE told us yesteraday that GM foods were perfectly safe no matter what and that labeling foods as GM foods was anti-SCIENCE.

And that we should all vote Republicans because they will teach us all the scientific method for growing GM (God Made) crops on this GM planet he made 6,000 years ago.

It's golden rice. They added beta carotene. It's been in development for what, a decade now?

At some point you need human trials.

Now, perhaps these trials were not done on the up and up. It is China after all.

However, this is EXACTLY the kind of application of GMO technology we should be pursuing, and not padding the profit margins of herbicide producers by developing GMO plants with herbicide resistance.
