This is the worst wrestling tragedy since Ric Flair suffered a heart attack while in the ring.

Bah God, That King has a family!

/Hoping for the best...

For real? Or just a PR stunt?

Seems for reals... The hospital is giving information, so I doubt its an angle.

Was there an accident and actual unexpected wrestling occurred?

Ah, you never really know with the WWE, wouldn't put past them to fake it. Sounds like it was serious, but maybe stable now.

I have an awesome Jerry Lawler story that I'll share if (and of course when) he dies. One of you farkers ping me when that happens.

And it's a SHOOT, brutha

2012-09-10 11:46:28 PM
I don't know who he is but I hope he's ok. Pro wrestling doesn't need that kind of heat.

I hope CM Punk wears a crown to the ring next week and someone asks who died and made him King.

It would be very much in character for Andy Kaufman to deliver a blow from the grave...

I had completely forgot about their feud until you posted that.

I don't know, I'm going to have to ask Senator Vreenak is this is fake.

He's an announcer, and in his 50's.

A really cool cat by all accounts, and he was a very good wrestler back in the day. He still does some bit parts in the ring now and then (and did one tonight, which is worrisome) but not usually anything physically taxing.

BAH GAWD KING, YOU'RE BEATING THAT HEART ATTACK LIKE A GOVERNMENT MULE!

/get well soon Jerry

I just saw him wrestle a few weeks ago, and he was due to be in the ring at NEW's card at Dutchess Stadium in New York in a few weeks. He's still very active as an actual competitor - his style is so low-impact he can afford to be working. Hopefully this was something unrelated and not from his job, and he will be able to return shortly. He's one of wrestling's few truly good guys, even with his predilection toward younger women.

Thanks for the info. I guess I could have googled that. So he's pretty much like any of the older guys who do a little fan service from time to time.

I hope the wrestling world learned its lesson on fake heart attacks with Fritz Von Erich, but they didn't.

That said, WWE and the McMahon family has too much on the line to make a gaffe like faking this. Everything I've read (since embarrassing myself in the Raw thread) indicates it's real.

Poor Lawler. Too damn old for that bullshiat in the ring.

The King is dead. Long live The King.

Let me guess... One of the peroxide-and-silicone bimboes showed up in the ring, and he collapsed after yelling "PUPPIES PUPPIES PUPPIES PUPPIES PUPPIES" 500 times?

There's a team spinning a health care reform response as I type this. They aren't pissed, this is opportunity.

These are the McMahons. They don't have feelings. They have exploits.

Wrestled earlier in the night. Took a handful of bumps, too.

Ruh roh, watchout for the inevitable comparisons to the ending of The Wrestler. I know it does not make exact sense but I still see it happening.

He had a match and was actually going off the top rope and doing some pretty good work. He may have finally overdone it. As someone else pointed out, the guy is 62. He's elderly in wrasslin years.

Reasons I don't think this was a shoot:

It happened off camera
Cole came on later and said it wasn't part of tonight's entertainment (they don't break character during the show)
Cole had his best Owen Hart voice on
They cut announcing completely for the last half hour of the show. I've never seen them do that
They arent going to do a fake death angle in the middle of Linda's campaign.

/at the end of the show Cole said they had him stabilized and was responding so I hope he pulls through.

Definitely not a work. PPV coming up and they need distraction like this like they need a plastic hand up the vagina.

/Just throw some coffee on him and he'll be fine

@TonyMarinaro

I'm 3rd row ringside. About 25 ft from Jerry The King Lawler. He grabbed his arm & collapsed. Security carried him away. His face was blue.

Y'know, this made me think... Ric Flair's going to die in the ring one day.

Hell, Lawler was only about 40 minutes from doing that.

I wonder if WWE has doctors checking out the guys before they wrestle, and whether Lawler got a once-over before RAW started tonight?

Lawler is a beast.. In between RAW that dude is usually on the road working the indy circuit still. He needs to relax on that. And FNB.. Yeah it is scary that we were only 40 minutes away from seeing that happen on TV.. Something I'm glad didn't happen.

Lawler is always checked out by his personal doctor Isaac Yankem DDS
