If any Bears fans are taking offense to this statement, they're just hating Cutler for the sake of hating Cutler. This is an incredibly reasonable statement and the fans should be pretty aware that this is how it's supposed to work.

eh, if you're yelling when your team's offense is lining up in the red zone then you are a bad fan and should probably just watch at the bar.

I hate to admit this, but the Eagles put up "Quiet. Offense is at Work" sign on the endzone big screens on occasions

/sort of pathetic we need to be reminded to STFU when our offense is driving down the field

How are they supposed to know that, when they haven't had an offense in almost 30 years?

Statistically and ability wise the 3rd or 4th best* QB in Bears 90 year history, and he can't get along with fans.

Thats just so great.

Luckman
McMahon
Erik Kramer in 1995
The best season of Harbaugh, Tomczak, and Evans combined

Let's be honest, Jay Cutler is kind of a dick. I mean how big of a dick do you have to have Chicago fans calling you a dick?

Having said that, Chicago fans are in fact also dicks. I mean it's at the southernmost tip of Lake Michigan, which in itself kind of looks like a big ol' dick. In fact Chicagoans are more like the ooze that comes out of the tip of the dick. Or maybe Chicago is just a big tight asshole full of assholes, forever trying to stave off the total ass f*cking it receives every winter.

I'm not sure what my point is but Chicago is the meeting point of Midwestern dicks and assholes.

There are so many good reasons to hate Cutler though. Being Cutler is only about 19 on the list.

Bearfan tends to LOVE Cutler no matter how much he sucks.

Smart "Stadiums" get quiet when their team is on offense. It's pretty dumb to keep it loud, especially while in the red zone.

I have yet to see or hear any evidence of Cutler being a dick other than internet tough guys say how he just seems like a dick. You know, 'cause he's got that look.

Some of these same people think Ray Lewis is awesome.

A caller to one of the sports radio morning shoes in Chicago said that Cutler needed to worry more about the game, that he should not tell the fans how to cheer, and then said Cutler is living immorally since he just had a child out of wedlock.

The caller was so stupid that I believed, for a quick moment, that I had somehow woken up in Pennsylvania and was listening to the snarling mongoloids.

I love Cutler. He seems to not care about things that people shouldn't care about. A lesser man would've requested some crutches or something to look more injured on the sidelines that one playoff game.

Plus he's a good quarterback.

ColdHardFootballFacts did a great article on this 2-3 years ago. Just 4 years of good (not great) quarterbacking would easily surpass Luckman's totals from the 40's-50's in the live-ball era of the NFL. Which is amazing that it hasn't been done in 60 years.

Just looking at that list Blanda, Chandler, and McMahon should've got that done.

If a fan would rather yell, "WOOOOOOOO!!!!!" instead of shutting up for a second so the team can hear the playcall, they deserve to be told off.

I fail to see why all the hate, here. Quaterback asks fans to tone it down a notch while the offense is inside the 20. Just because the fans, not used to a somewhat efficient offense, are understandably confused doesn't mean he's a dick.

Would people like it better if he said pretty please and brought over a yummy casserole dish?

It's because it's Cutler. As it stands, he's a pretty good quarterback, but has been distilled around here to "ZOMG EMO CUTLER!!1!!" because his personality is different from what people expect of an NFL QB. Personally I don't see what's so offensive about who he is, but somehow he has become a somewhat polarizing figure in football.

You nailed it. He's 'different', he's introverted, similar to Lovie Smith. People hate on Lovie for showing a lack of outward emotion, and it just so happens that Cutler's natural look is the 'droopy sad face' appearance. People who know him or have played with him, have spoken highly of his conduct. Additionally, he's done absolutely fabulous things for kids dealing with Diabetes without much fanfare.

It also should be noted that the whole "Bears fans think Culter is a dick" meme only really exists outside of Chicago, for some reason. Probably due to the one playoff game a couple of years ago when the broadcast team was showing off newspaper headlines that never existed, and that the story plays well do to his "droopy sad face".

I think most Bears fans appreciate for Cutler for being a quiet guy who went about his business while getting pounded behind a poor offensive line in a Mike Martz offense the last few years without complaining. You want to see what Bears fans look like when they think their QB is a dick? Two words: Cade McNown.

2012-09-11 08:28:46 AM
Cutler is probably a better Bears QB than McMahon was. The 1985 Super Bowl winning team did it with defense and Walter Payton. McMahon was servicable. He was Baltimore Ravens Trent Dilferesque for that team.

And don't forget Willie Gault and the other speedsters that could run about 80 mph. Doesn't hurt when the d-backs can't keep up with your receivers either.

The season didn't exactly start out with the kind of boom I was hoping for, couldn't help but laugh that Soldier Field was booing 4 plays into 2012... can't argue with the results after the game was over though. Feels so weird to watch the Bears and actually hear a receiver mentioned as a threat who gets attention from opposing corners... the last 3 years have been announcers talking about Hester that way in a wishful thinking capacity (not gonna happen).

So excited for Thursday night.

Cutler DID do some douchey things in Denver, such as instigating the trash talk (giving the "suck it" hand/body gesture to the entire San Diego bench in a game where his great offense scored a whole three points) that got Rivers vilified, then whining about it on The Best Damn Sports Show Period months later acting as though Rivers needed to apologize to him. And acting as though it was a great injustice and he couldn't talk to the owner after McDaniels was rumored to have been looking into getting Cassel. So don't act as though his image is completely unwarranted.

This, however, is not those things.

Cutler does have a doughy, punchable face, but him asking the home crowd to be quiet while the Bears are trying to score in the redzone is not really something to get upset over.

I would chalk a lot of that up to being young and having been treated like a prince in college because of our country's weird obsession with college sports.

I never really followed his Denver career, so I can't speak to that, but he's been nothing but a solid teammate in Chicago. He says the right things, he does a lot of charity work without calling the press first, and he works hard to maximize his skills. I think he's matured a little, and that maturity is showing up in his play.

He's always going to have his head-scratching, drive you crazy plays where he throws into triple coverage, but now that he has real receivers I expect those plays to be balanced out by a lot of points.

This will be the year that defines Jay, IMO. The Bears went all-in to change a historically defensive-minded team to an offensive powerhouse. On paper, they SHOULD have the ability to hang with any team in a shootout.
