Wonder what the percentage of depressed women that think having a child will make them not depressed anymore is?

Dammit mom. And here I was blaming her genes for my stature when it was her melancholy all along.

I blame the mom's jeans.

Sure blaming mom is easy, after all, "refrigerator mothers" cause autism, so of course, the mother's depression during pregnancy causes short stature.

I call shenanigans on this. I was depressive during both my pregnancies (I was already taking prescribed anti-depressants and stopped taking them when I was pregnant), and both my sons are well above average in height. Hell, my 9yo was 4'11" at his annual physical last month and my 14yo is taller than I am and I'm 5'9". Just another stupid attempt to blame the mother for all the afflictions children have.

I'll stick to blaming mothers for psychological trauma, thank you very much.

/time to go wake the kids and scream about wire hangers

Stress and hormones, including thyroid, are a contributing factor in some postpartum depression. Checking the thyroid T3 and T4 should be routine on every blood test because low thyroid is much more common than usually believed. Hypothyroidism is highly, cheaply, and easily treatable; however, it isn't glamorous, dramatic, or a big money maker for the health care industry which is why it isn't checked until they have checked everything else first. (Untreated it makes you tired, gain weight easily, tired, grumpy and tired. Did I mention tired? So tired it takes effort just to think.)

Did anyone else check out the linked article that says omega-3 fatty acids (fish oil) help depression? My ophthalmologist recommended 1200mg of TheraTears brand of omega-3s every day for dry eye symptoms and it works great for that. Good to know that it might be doing something good for my brain too.

The thing is, you probably would have been, like, eight or nine feet tall without the crippling depression.

Awww, damnit. All the fun in finding short guys incredibly sexy is now going to be tainted by the thought that their mothers were horribly, horribly depressed.

Jixa: I'll stick to blaming mothers for psychological trauma, thank you very much.

If you were as experienced and accomplished as us men when it comes to blaming the opposite sex, you would realize that it's the man's fault you're depressed. How could you be depressed if you were having a child with a loving and supportive partner? Not possible. But if you can tell your dreams will be destroyed while your husband will blithely go on to pursue his... if you know you're going to bear the dark moments alone while your husband shows up now and then for the magic happy moments... when you realize the one person you considered your soulmate will never understand the blind, on-faith, uncontrolled sacrifice you're making because he gets to decide exactly how much he wants to sacrifice while you pick up the slack... well, of course you're depressed.

Just trying to level the playing field a little bit. Now I'll go back to punching for my team. You're welcome :-)
