Somacandra: FTFA: Van Duzer's June bike-trek was part of his Van Duzer Foundation, and helped raise awareness for blood donation shortages. Founded in 2008 to support a local firefighter whose house burned down, the foundation has since raised more than $600,000, Van Duzer said. Van Duzer said he rode with a few kids from the Boys and Girls Club and met with U.S. Surgeon General Regina M. Benjamin to discuss blood shortages. Obama told The New York Times that Van Duzer's effort in promoting blood donations was part of the reason the campaign decided to visit his pizza shop.

Boycotting a guy who raises money and awareness for homeless firefighters and blood donation? shiat man, why not just kick a bunch of orphaned puppies, walk over to the nearest grotto and worship Satan while you're at it, assholes?

Wow, Tea-libans are getting tunnel vision. It's nice to hate everything Obama hates, but they have to make sure their laser focus on that doesn't get in the way and makes them look like total asshats for hating a person who is actually a better citizen than most of us.

**hold finger to right ear**

This just in, I'm being told that Tea partiers were already widely accepted as asshats, so no further harm was done to their cause by this story.

bhcompy: This is nothing like the outrage over at Chick-fil-A. Nope.

one was about anger over donating money to deny gay people civil equality and scapegoating them for the impending wrath of a god hellbent on destroying a nation bc of gay people's "arrogance"

the other, anger over a charity-fundraising republican who dared to give the marxist-in-chief a bearhug photo op and his vote

so yes, they're both free speech boycotts, but also no, they're not quite alike in terms of motivation

The college kids are probably going to make this place their number one off-campus restaurant this semester, if they're anything like the kids I went to school with this past year, especially now with all this national attention.
Thanks teahadis... you just gave this guy more free advertising and business in one month than you could ever take away from him by boycotting for 100 years.

[muntz_ha_ha.jpg]

This guy will be fine without the baggers. Putting a pizza joint next to a college is about as safe a business strategy as putting a tattoo parlor next to a bar.

As long as he offers some kind of deal to the students, his business won't be suffering.

ExperianScaresCthulhu:
//Don't take away someone's right to boycott, or devalue it

No one is talking about taking away anyone's "right" to boycott anything they choose.
However, when the reason someone chooses to boycott a business was because the owner of that business hugged the president of the United States and took pictures with him it is they who devalue that boycott.
Why? Because the reason they chose was STUPID.
Would it be too much to ask to rub one or two of the remaining brain cells together to come up with a logical reason to act before boycotting something?

CFL = because the owner is a homophobe bible-thumper (note that one does not always mean the other)
moron with the "english only" sign in the shop window = xenophobic racist (we all know EXACTLY who was being targeted by the sign)
Florida pizza shop owner = ???

I think you are misconstruing a lot about Joe the Plumber, especially in assuming he had a business to begin with (which he didn't, partially the whole point he was hassling Obama). Of course "misconstrue" is standard operating procedure for you Derpwing types.

Isn't it funny how this pizza store owner supports Obama, but "Papa" John Schnatter complains that his cafetera-pizzas-gone-wild with buttery butter-like butter sauce will have to cost an extra 15 cents each, although he can somehow afford to give away 2 million pizzas? It's like one political party is friendlier to not large businesses, or....what are they called again?

2012-09-11 08:48:25 AM
I was driving through Scottsdale the other day and saw that some local sushi joint had put up a pro-Obama sign at an intersection - at Hayden and Mcdonald, I think. I can't believe how stupid that is, especially in the Valley of the Sun. Business owners are stupid to openly declare a political preference. Why would you want to alienate some percentage of your customer base? Not to mention that it should be illegal. Isn't that illegal? Shouldn't the FEC go after these companies?

The Broncos' performance was indeed quite poor last year, but on-field disasters aren't the only reason people are scrutinizing the team. According to recent news reports, George W. Bush's appearance at the Broncos training facility in early March is being investigated by the Federal Elections Commission. The rally included several hundred Bush supporters, a grinning Mike Shanahan (who gave Bush an official team jersey), several former players and a group of cheerleaders who chanted "No More Gore" (Off Limits, March 16). It seems that there are pesky rules about corporations endorsing clearly identified candidates.

I believe this sort of thing is illegal.

tenpoundsofcheese: timujin: The original point of this thread and the point of the article, is that people are leaving fake reviews on his Yelp page,

No. There was nothing in the article about Yelp. He said he was being boycotted.

But you're right, you weren't the one who brought it up, I conflated your comment with that of others here who are putting up the "boycott" strawman.

You mean like the headline for this thread which was about the Tea Party boycotting him based on his his comment in the article about him being boycotted? That strawman?

Again, you are correct (twice in one day!) ... and I just realized what the problem is, I started reading the article attached to a similar, but uncommented, thread that was redlit which was focused on the Yelp interviews, not this one which had the bit about boycotting his store. Then I didn't shift gears when moving over to this one. So, yeah, mud, face, crow, all that.

And, since this is apparently my day for screwing things up:
When Blitzer questioned whether Van Duzer encountered any issues with Secret Service lifting the president, Van Duzer said, "I'm telling you, Wolf, just spur of the moment. We didn't plan it, we didn't have no communication with the Secret Service...I felt comfortable being able to pick him up."

so there's that as well...
