The first one is more true to DC's "creative vision".

Oh my god. A fictional character actually taking a real-world pose? Gasp!

I agree it's a weird angle but people don't seem to understand perspective that are biatching so much.

It's a comic, right? Isn't cartoonish depictions of of the characters sorta the point?

Trying to make it realistic kinda defeats the purpose and just causes problems like this

ZOMG! A female character sexually portrayed to appeal to the medium's almost exclusively male fan base!

Next thing you know they'll start doing this in porno.

it's poor design, its anatomically IMPROBABLE if not impossible, and it's an attempt to squeeze an ass shot and cleavage in the same image for no good reason. Its not a "Perspective issue" and its not "foreshortening"... As someone who took life drawing from one of the best instructors in the country, I can tell you "if people have to come up with some excuse to justify the pose, then you failed in your design".

period.

It's not so much that it's provocative as it is a shiatty piece of art that lacks scale, perspective, and general comprehension of anatomy.

what farking decade do you live in? Women/Girls now make up almost half of Fandom in general... close to 65-70% in Anime/Manga. This is a mainstream comic, not a porno, and frankly the medium and the fans deserve better.

Never had seen the previous take before but that was poorly done. Last thing I saw with Catwoman was a glimpse of the trailer with Halle Berry and I shuddered at the awful costume I saw.

There's still a large niche for "Sexy" comic women. Frank Cho is coming out with a collection of women he has drawn, Franz Franzetta remains a hot seller, and, hell all of Zenescope Entertainment is T and A. No need for plot or even original ideas with them. Lady Death and Vampirella, of course, as well. There's a guy at the local shop who always, always buys every single variant and edition of the Lady Death stuff, even the statues. What is disturbing is that it is pretty obvious that he masturbates to this statue or the comics.

Stratohead: close to 65-70% in Anime/Manga.

In certain age groups. A huge percentage of that is girls who are amazingly addicted to yaoi, which (amusingly, when related to the complaints about Catwoman and what not) feature some very entertainingly unrealistic gay sex and romance.

But that's okay, because those fans aren't the ones complaining about this sort of thing. Unsurprisingly, much of it originates from two crowds: 1) Social Justice Wank groups on tumblr, LJ, etc, and, 2) Indie web comic artists who are very angry that DC doesn't produce a product that they think DC should produce.

Yeah, not to mention that when this first came up I went and dug up some gymnast/acrobat pics where they're completely bent over backwards, doing exactly what the critics were saying was impossible. Selina is a super hero, if a non-super hero can do it in real life, her doing it in a comic book is okay with me.

/blah blah male gaze, blah blah objectification, blah blah unrealistic male anatomy in comics ISN'T THE SAME, etc etc

I don't think the new one is better. The pose makes it look like she's scooting along the ground rather than leaping through the page.

The first one would be fine, were it not for the bulbous right buttock and left thigh that appears to curve upward.

But not to throw too many stones, having photographed more than a few magazine covers I can say that fitting a concept to a format like a cover - vertical, with logos, titles, barcodes etc - is often a serious challenge and results in compromises.

My main problem with the original cover is that the color selection really downplayed the depth of field, so it looked very "flat".

Percentage of people complaining about this who complain about the "sexism" inherent in having every male character ripped as all get out: %0

Sounds like a bunch of whiny butthurt fembot types, upset that women as fugly as they are effectively red-lined the fap banks of America.
