Do you have access to nekkid' pics of the godaddy girls? Because that would be EPIC.

Is this because of the ads, or their stance on the Internet privacy stuff?

I'm not experiencing any problems, but I use the corporate DNS service.

As for Anon. You guys seriously need to reconsider your priorities. Taking out Co$? No problem. They are evil farks. Taking out DNS? That is like firing a shotgun into a crowd because you dislike one person. You people are a bunch of childish little shiats.

2012-09-10 03:27:36 PM
Anonymous claims they did it.

How do you verify something like that when you're, you know, anonymous?

A few sites I browse have been down. Now I know why. Our small company's website is down, too. (Non critical, just serves as advertising.) Domain was registered through GoDaddy, but hosted on Squarespace.

From some networks they seem fine. My Crapcast testline can get to a certain GoDaddy site but my connection from work can not.

Oh great. A quarter of our clients are hosted with GoDaddy. This will generate some phone calls.

This does seem like a pretty bad move from a PR point of view, but it may still qualify as kind of lulz-motivated.

This isn't Anon--it's one douchebag hoping to impress some 4Chan trolls. Granted, Anonymous is so well-known at this point, anyone can just claim to be part of the group but the guy admits he's working alone.

When Anon works together, the results are usually either highly effective, inspiring, or hilarious. This attack is just stupid.

Wow... I guess they were done taking out PayPal and others, as revenge for wikileaks...

Now I wonder, what was there motivation for this one? for teh lulz?

Something tells me that I may be on to something...

GVS (Google Video Search) Candice Michelle, who was basically the GoDaddy girl that got things started. Turn SafeSearch off. You won't be disappointed.

At work right now, otherwise I'd do the linking for you.

Given the way the DNS system works, you may not notice an issue until the record cached on whatever DNS server you are talking to times out. By then GoDaddy may have the issue worked out.

I've got one site (inherited) that's hosted there. It's down.

DNS is kind of weird sometimes. Depending on your settings you may be able to see your own website when others can't (because there's a specific rule in your local DNS). I usually check on my cell (AT&T) to see if it's everyone or just me.

So are mine... to me. Give it a few hours until the DNS cache expires. Then the weeping and gnashing of teeth will begin.

Seconded. If they're using goDaddy, they're not exactly either industry players or large sites usually. As far as shared hosting goes, we'd see a far bigger impact from bluehost or hostgator going down..

So, is *this* the stunt that will finally make people realize that "Anonymous'" tactics are not the best ways to foment legitimate and needed social change?

Yeah, I caught that after I made my post. Probably some fat kid in mom's basement trying to impress the geek girls. Which won't work because now the geek girls can't access their favorite websites.

This is a group that bragged about harassing a 14 year old girl and her father because the girl wouldn't send out naked pics of herself and the father had the audacity to put out a video demanding that they stop hassling her. The PR thing? Not much of a concern for them.

Yup, I have one and it's down. I don't expect to see much change in my visitor numbers, though.

In fact, should be in line with my weekly summary:

Total Weekly Visitors: 0

If you use GoDaddy for DNS, Don't be surprised when a 12 year old knocks your website off the net.
