Can't help but notice you didn't say what name you had that was evidently against the TOS. I wonder why?

I think it would be interesting if NCSoft could figure out a way to simply spin CoH off on it's own under Paragon Studios, rather than just shut it down. Let it live on as an under-funded indy level game.

One of my heroes is in there someplace!

It's a farking tragedy. The game is profitable. It still has a good number of paying subscribers. I've played since CoX was in beta and I'll be there when the servers are shut down, but the way NCsoft went from "We have plans for the game for the next two years" to "You have 90 days to get your shiat off our servers" borders on sociopathic. There's no way I'd ever buy another of their products.

I have a whole bunch of characters with "Suicide" (as in "Suicide girls"; the costume creator makes it pretty easy to make goth chicks in skimpy outfits) in their name on one server. I went to Virtue and made one and that character got TOS'd within two hours because dildo thought I was advocating suicide or something.

As far as I know, I haven't been a virgin in about 11 years. On the other hand, the phrase "It takes one to know one." comes to mind. I imagine women just love to touch the guy who makes posts like this on the internet. Also, CoH has nothing to do with Star Trek. Put on a cape and tights, or go away.

ThatBillmanGuy: I just hope someone figures out a way to let us continue playing. Maybe a single player offline mode for our own computer.

Single player CoH would be boring, but I agree it would be better than nothing. To be honest, what I'm hoping for is an offline character creator, and a single player-moderated server left alive somewhere with the store disabled and the stuff in it given to all accounts. I remember years ago looking into World of Warcraft Private servers, and well, they were a bit hobbled together, but they existed and worked dangit!

How the fark would a sonic resonance defender single player work? 80% of powers would be useless.

Doh! I forget that since I play mostly by myself as a Super Strength Invulnerable tanker, that there are other play styles dependant on multiplayer grouping. Yeah, hopefully someone will make a server somewhere that isn't as pointless as the SWG Emu project is.

I have a level 50 on every character slot on Liberty. It's my home server.

It's do-able. You'd take the big bubble for good status protection and stack the resists with an APP armor and you'd be pretty durable, with plenty of room to invest in secondary and pool powers at least. Sonic shields work better on Controllers or MMs. An Earth/Sonic has a nigh-unkillable pet, for example.

Empathy defenders would be hosed a lot worse than anything else.

My character, Ascendant, is at the 10 second mark, right of center, talking on the cellphone, which is appropriate.

The initial goal was to fill up 10 instances of Atlas Park on Saturday. We filled up an unprecedented 33, and when the server was full, another 8 instances were full on the secondary server. Win or lose, I can't be anything less than awestruck at the show of support to keep this game alive. If you'd like to help, please visit CoH Titan to find out how.

There's an emulated server in the works. As I understand it, the present state of the project is kind of pathetic. Players can zone in but not move or use powers, but obviously there wasn't much interest in it until recently, either. I know that different people have tried making such a thing since at least 2005. Apparently client-server communication in CoX are pretty well obfuscated.

In response to the original call to letter-writing action, Lackey said said she was extending an offer to NCsoft to endorse, uncompensated, any and all NCsoft products if the company can only find a way for CoH to live on.

What is the point of such endorsements? Those are basically bought reviews.

For a game that supported gay-friendly groups like City of Gaymers, I find it unlikely that it was raw homophobia. More likely you were using a name that was simply against the Terms of Service.

My 10 year old son plays this with his dad. It's one of the few games that isn't blood soaked and encourages team play. He and his dad usually choose missions where they save a citizen (I don't know the game terms) and his dad heals and protects while our son does his best to take out the villains.

We're hoping there will be a reprieve.

It still does not bode well for the game lasting until Nov. 30.

NCSoft basically could axe the game any day now, if they wanted to.

I submitted another article on this story a few days ago before it started getting buzz. However, my headline was mediocre at best, and not likely to have been perceived as funnier than anything.

One of my characters was quoted in another article about the rally, though.

NCsoft products use a unified updater now. You run that and tell it which games to install. Link.

There are about 4,000 toons in that video. The protests were largely organized on the game's official forum and on a couple associated web sites like COHTitan and really only held on two of the 15 servers. Since only a fraction of the player base even uses those sites and those servers, that's certainly not a bad turn-out. I don't even know what a Jita is but unless it lets me make a Time Defender I really don't give a crap whether it exists or not, either.

How dare you shut down this game we don't play enough to make profitable compared to the alternatives!

We didn't care enough to pay for it regularly enough to keep it running, but how DARE you shut it down!

Yes. I know that's a strawman. And I know several have said 'it's still profitable'. Maybe just not enough so to warrant the actual effort they have to spend on it? It's not like GW2 and CoX have a crossover audience. You're most likely to go straight to DCUO from CoX.

I still play Star Trek Online occasionally. But it still sucks no matter how many times I get fooled into "this season update will be awesome and revitalize the game!" followed by logging in, seeing there are some slight changes to something, maybe a new feature. No new missions what so ever, a few new c-store only add-ons that cost $25 each. And a bunch of forum posts from the developers saying "we might add something cool about 2 updates from now, but for now, useless feature x is being developed at a snails pace for next season." followed by "awesome cool feature c requested by everyone is not a priority right now." At least they are somewhat honest about just wanting to bilk trekkies out of $25 for every costume they want to play digital dress up with. But the game is bad. And now with City of Heroes just getting shanked out of nowhere, I kind of don't see any appeal to playing mmos anymore. SWG never realized its full potential. Warcraft is too hard core for a casual gamer. And DC Online isn't as diverse in customizing your hero as CoX was. And The Old Republic is a disappointment, I hear...

ThatBillmanGuy: And The Old Republic is a disappointment, I hear...

I can't speak for everyone obviously, but the problem TOR has IMO is endgame content. I like the storylines each class gets (for the most part) and it's fun to play to lvl 50, but after that it's like all the other MMO's. Grind your way through hardmode stuff to get geared for raiding and grind endgame content or do pvp. I burned out on raiding after years of WoW and just wasn't interested in doing all that all over again. It's a pretty good solo game though.

The old game and low income isn't really the issue, you can virtualise it and capitalise on more powerful hardware to reduce costs. This is pretty much "Go play GW2" to their customers.

Problem is they haven't considered the possibility of their fans saying "No."
