Did you even read the goddamn article? "But, in a decidedly unexpected finding, the researchers also discovered that older overweight children may actually consume fewer calories daily compared to their healthy-weight counterparts."

Or so I have read

Goddamnit does anyone read these things? The article says the exact opposite: young overweight children consume more calories than normal-weight children, but overweight children 12-14 consume less than normal-weight children.

Christ.

"Overweight children reported eating fewer calories," And they lied. I'll bet that you would find that obese people lie to others and delude themselves as to how much food they eat. You can not get fat and stay fat unless you overeat.

of course they're eating more than skinny teens, skinny teens aren't filling

The headline: Overweight Teens Typically Eat

But I want do know, do they breathe, too? I heard that breathing is a symptom of being fat as well.

But they order a Diet Coke so it's ok.

Here is the article abstract:

If anyone cares to read the full article, let me know, and I can send it.

This is what the authors concluded:

In a nationally representative cross-sectional sample, overweight and obese girls older than 7 years and boys older than 10 years reported consuming fewer daily calories than their healthy-weight peers. One explanation for this would be that increased energy intake in early childhood is related to the onset of obesity, but other mechanisms, such as differences in energy expenditure, may contribute more to maintaining obese/overweight status through adolescence.

True, but when you get too fat to exercise, "Overeat" becomes a smaller number. So a fat person can eat fewer calories and remain fatter than a skinny person.

Now you just stop that truth-telling right now. This is America, where everyone's a victim. Your attitude is soooo 1970's.

By not exercising yes you can. The typical teenager eats more than the typical adult, the just burn more of it as well.

"Overweight children tend to be less active," she said, but added that other factors are likely at play. "The body has complex reactions to how much you eat, when you eat and your activity levels. And, we just don't completely understand these reactions yet," she explained.

Another expert agreed that a variety of factors influence body weight.

"There's no question that overweight and obesity are multi-factorial. Some of it is caloric intake, some of it is genetic components, some is changes that happen in your metabolism, and new research suggests that the bacteria that live in us are different in normal and overweight individuals

Basically they're saying, "Let's not promote living a healthy lifestyle through diet and exercise, but let's blame bacteria instead"

A routine of damned fine cooking coupled with an injury that prevents you from exercising it off like you used to will cause you to gain weight rapidly. It is difficult to change eating habits from bicycle commuting to sedentary overnight.

The good thing is once the injury heals, the weight falls right back off.

Might not necessarily be delusions but rather lack of nutrition education. I knew this very obese person, over 400lbs, and they really kept themselves intentionally ignorant on food nutrition but once they finally admitted they were lying to themselves and learned how bad they were really eating they changed. Now they're a solid 215lbs after 18 months of proper eating.

They only have two days of data on each subject. What about those who try to eat less every day, but then binge-eat after a few days? This study is absolutely worthless and a waste of money.

Results of the study were published online Sept. 10 and in the October print issue of the journal Pediatrics.

In other words, she's reporting on shiat that other people wrote about already and her whole article is one giant cut and paste. Jesus, you'd think they'd use Turnitin just for shiats and giggles once in a while.

lots of fat people don't realize how much they're eating because they snack constantly. and while "it's just one cookie... it's not important" is true... when you say that 12 times a day, it adds up.

No. Kids who are in sports burn a fark-ton of calories, so they consume a fark-ton of calories.

Nah, most thin kids in high school burn off huge amounts of energy playing sports, getting laid, participating in extracurricular activities (e.g. getting laid), and so on. As a result, their metabolisms are boosted much higher than the fat kid's. Of course, as soon as they get to college, these same thin kids instantly pork up from still consuming the same number of calories and burning basically none of them. Whereas the fat kids who have spent years fighting their obesity finally succeed and become thin, healthy people.

This.
A dietician friend had a 400 lb patient she was couselling. Calorie intake was only 1200/day or so until she found out the patient also drank "fruit juice, but that's healthy". One gallon per day. Fruit juice that her husband brought home free from his job. At Del Monte. "Fruit juice" was the heavy syrup they can fruit in.

We don't want to be mean to the fatties. Let's encourage them to think their fatness is not their fault and there's nothing they can do to change it.

what did the fatness ever do to you?

Speaking as a former "husky" little kid, I didn't eat fewer calories as I got older. I got a bike & burned them off.

Playing rugby in college, my daily intake was between 4.5k-6k. When I stopped playing rugby though I gained 45 lbs in 6 months. Took me 3 years to get control of the food intake and then dropped the 45 lbs in 9 months.

Since I got married I've been adding weight... hopefully once my son grows up a bit I'll lose the weight chasing him cuz I'm not giving up my wife's delicious home cooking.

So all of the fat people now were thin, attractive popular kids and the skinny ones were Fatty McFattersons as a child?

Where to average kids go?

Well, of course they eat more than thinner teens. A few thin teens is not going to fill them up.
